* CompleteMonster: ComicBook/{{Darkseid}}, Lord of Apokolips, seeks to conquer the Earth and add it to his [[GalacticConqueror dark empire]]. Having many humans abducted to be [[TransformationHorror agonizingly mutated]] into his parademons, Darkseid launches attacks on the Earth, bombing entire cities before being driven back. [[WesternAnimation/ReignOfTheSupermen Later responsible]] for [[WesternAnimation/TheDeathOfSuperman unleashing Doomsday to run rampant]] so it will kill Superman, Darkseid killed the wife of Hank Henshaw and corrupted him into the Cyborg Superman, using him to help Darkseid come to Earth where he intends to obliterate Metropolis and then take over the world in bloody conquest.

** In ''WesternAnmation/{{Ben 10}}'', Creator/SteveBlum voiced Vilgax (a role he later reprised in ''[[WesternAnimation/Ben10Omniverse Omniverse]]''), who's an {{Expy}} of Darkseid. Here, he lends his voice to Darkseid himself.

* StrawFeminist: Wonder Woman is portrayed with every negative stereotype of feminism: a bullying jerk who thumbs her nose at laws and goes ga-ga over ice cream.

** Alan Tudyk, who voices Superman, played Van Wayne, Bruce's cousin, in the short lived series ''Series/Powerless2017'', who always wanted super powers.

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: Wonder Woman spazzing out over ice cream. It's been quite a contested scene among fans.

** Even before it was released it was already causing one; fans of the arc it's based on are happy, while those who hate the ''ComicBook/{{New 52}}'' and didn't want it reflected into other media projects are not. And there are also those who just plain don't like the arc, or wish DC went with an older story to adapt or maybe some other ''New 52'' arc.

** How many characters are portrayed in this movie: Darkseid being a generic GalacticConqueror instead of the GodOfEvil he was portrayed as in previous incarnations; or Superman acting more like a thuggish AntiHero and SmugSuper instead of his more usual NiceGuy and IdealHero characterization; or Wonder Woman being more hot-headed than usual with absolutely no skills in being a diplomat; or GreenLantern/Hal Jordan being considerably more arrogant and reckless than his comic book counterpart.

** The fact that besides Batman, Cyborg, and Flash everyone else is [[UnintentionallyUnsympathetic kind of a dick]].

* DarknessInducedAudienceApathy: The film isn't just dark, it's incredibly mean spirited to the point of being petty, and the majority of its heroes are completely unsympathetic, egotistical jerks.
* DesignatedHero: Green Lantern is an TooDumbToLive {{Jerkass}}, Superman is a straight up thug, Wonder Woman cares more about fighting than actually being an Ambassador, and Shazam is literally a spoiled brat in a man's body, and yet the audience is expected to root for them.

** Batman telling Green Lantern he is not a vampire. [[WesternAnimation/JusticeLeagueGodsAndMonsters Wrong animated movie, Hal]].

* StrawmanHasAPoint: The protest group against Wonder Woman brought up some pretty valid points about superheroes; they have every right to be worried, not just about the ''massive'' amounts of property damage that the heroes (save for Flash) cause on a regular basis), but the very idea of people who may as well be demigods is pretty terrifying to the general public.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Some characters can come across as this. As we are supposed to feel sorry that the population are in fear of them or outright hate them. However, the moment we actually meet them, it's quite understandable as to [[JerkAss why they feel this way]]. Turns out there's a good reason the Flash is the only hero with a positive public image, when everyone else on the team (barring Cyborg, whose origin occurs in the movie) is reckless, egotistical, or [[TerrorHero Batman]].

** Could double as DidNotDoTheResearch-- Diana's people, the Greeks, ''invented'' ice cream. True, it's come a long way from mixing snow from a mountaintop with sliced fruit and berry juice, but, damn, girl, calm down.

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Some characters can come across as this. As we are supposed to feel sorry that the population are in fear of them or outright hate them. However, the moment we actually meet them, it's quite understandable as to [[JerkAss why they feel this way]]. Turns out there's a good reason the Flash is the only hero with a positive public image, when everyone else on the team (barring Cyborg, whose origin occurs in the movie) is reckless, egotistical, or Batman.

* EndingFatigue: Impressive on a technical level as it is, the final battle with Darkseid (and [[spoiler:Superman's rescue from Apokalips]]) takes a ''very long time.'' The feeling is not helped by the sheer amount of action scenes through the rest of the movie.
* HilariousInHindsight: In ''WesternAnmation/{{Ben 10}}'', Creator/SteveBlum voiced Vilgax (a role he later reprised in ''[[WesternAnimation/Ben10Omniverse Omniverse]]''), who's an {{Expy}} of Darkseid. Here, he lends his voice to Darkseid himself.

** Lots of supposedly "funny" moments fall flat, mostly because they're just not that funny and in some cases the actors (namely Justin Kirk as Green Lantern) can't deliver them properly. Green Lantern arguably gets it worst of all, since much of the humor stems from him being too arrogant and/or too stupid to realize just how ineffectual he truly is, and his nasal voiced actor doesn't do him any favors.

* GenericDoomsdayVillain: Some fans find this version of Darkseid to be rather boring, especially considering how little backstory or characterization he gets outside of "wants to conquer earth". Made worse by the fact that he gets very little dialogue throughout the movie.
