* IdiotPlot: The entire movie hinges on Santino being TooDumbToLive. If Santino had found himself another hitman to kill his sister, or did not burn John's house down, or possibly try not to have John killed after the assassination and make him think he needed to defend himself, then at least half the movie could have been avoided. At least Iosef, from the first film, didn't know who John Wick is when he and his men antagonized him by killing his dog and taking his car.

If Santino had found himself another hitman to kill his sister, or did not burn John's house down, or possibly try not to have John killed after the assassination and make him think he needed to defend himself, then at least half the movie could have been avoided. (Though Santino does imply that John is the only one skilled enough to do the job). At least Iosef, from the first film, didn't know who John Wick is when he and his men antagonized him by killing his dog and taking his car.

* PanderingToTheBase: Lampshaded and downplayed. In the first film, one of the most memorable moments was Viggo's speech to Iosef about who John is. In the first scene, Abram gives a speech to his lieutenant that's nearly word-for-word identical -- except that the lieutenant is logically up-to-date on the assassin world and cuts him off midway with an annoyed, "Yeah, I know all this." Afterwards, the closest the film gets to pandering is when John kills two men with a pencil when he has a bounty posted, but it shows how John is getting more and more rattled by the constant attempts on his life.
