* FollowTheLeader: It is by no mere coincidence that ''Jak II'' was made considerably [[DarkerAndEdgier darker]] than its predecessor and was released around the time people would just be finishing up ''[[VideoGame/GrandTheftAuto Vice City]]'' and needing something to placate their sandboxing fix. The first game is also a blatant ''VideoGame/SuperMario64'' clone, but it's more forgivable than most due to the game's absolutely exquisite presentation. The transfer from "traditional collectathon platformer" to "action game with some platforming elements" is generally considered justified, as open world steal-car games went from strength to strength in the early 2000s, while character platformers nearly disappeared entirely for the next decade ([[GrandfatherClause unless they starred Mario]]).

** To a lesser degree, the [=PS3=] ports have some issues of their own, like some minor sound and graphics issues, though for the most part, they're still perfectly playable and nowhere near as bad as the Vita versions.

* PortingDisaster: The Vita ports are abysmal. First, there are the framerate issues. The first game is playable, but the sequels often drop to single digits. Combined with the control compression [[note]]Dark Jak in 2 is on the rear touch panel, you '''will''' accidentally waste the power[[/note]], the port is one of the worst Vita ports out there.

* MostWonderfulSound: The roar of your Dark Eco maxing out in ''Jak X'', signifying iminent awesomeness. Hell yeah. Also the charging noise of the Wave Concussor. Not necessarily "wonderful" as such, but the huge explosions triggered by the dark bomb and the supernova sound both awesome and immensely satisfying.

Added DiffLines:

* TheWorldIsJustAwesome: In the Precursor Legacy, the horizon is invariably dotted with interesting landmarks that usually turn out to be explorable locations later. There are sufficiently high vantage points in the latter half of the game where the ''entire'' game world can be seen, to this effect.

** Light Jak's regeneration makes a high pitched hum that was clearly meant to invoke this. Given that it signifies you going from your last legs back to full health, it's entirely understandable.

** For ''Jak 3'', you easily could replace "Baron Praxis" with "Count Veger" in the above statement, though many point to his [[spoiler:gloating to Jak immediately after Damas' death]].

** Pretty much every time we see anything corrupted by dark eco qualifies in some way as well, up to and including Jak.

* BrokenBase: To this day, it's not uncommon to see debates over whether the series was better when it was a pure platformer like the first game, or more Action-Oriented like the two sequels.

* FanPreferredCouple: Jak/Ashelin for those who want to see TheHero get with the hot BadAss chick.
** NaughtyDog seemed to have caught on to that [[spoiler:because in ''Jak 3'', Ashelin becomes Jak's LoveInterest while Jak's previous LoveInterest Keira is DemotedToExtra, while Torn, who was implied to be with Ashelin by ''Jak II's'' end, doesn't react at all]]. Of course [[spoiler:massive backlash ensued. Eventually in ''Jak X'', [[AuthorsSavingThrow Keira and Jak were back together, as were Ashelin and Torn]], and the Jak/Ashelin romance was never mentioned again]].

** Fans are split three-way with this installment. One camp thinks it is a good game, but not great like the predecessors. Another camp believes it to be [[SoOkayItsAverage mediocre, but harmless,]] and optional for a playthrough. The last camp considers that game complete garbage, and insult to all the releases before it, and [[FranchiseKiller the game that single-handedly killed the series.]]

* RewatchBonus: It's likely too subtle to be given much consideration on a first playthrough, but almost all of [[spoiler:Kor's]] scenes in the second game are littered with hints and foreshadowing for TheReveal.

* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Plenty of examples, but ''Jak II'''s final boss music is tops.

* [[BigLippedAlligatorMoment Big Lipped Alligator Mission]]: There's a mission in ''Jak 3'' where Daxter gets sucked into a computer and has to play a Pac-Man style game to find a MacGuffin. It evidently wasn't supposed to be ''that'' much of a stretch, since the character who put him into the computer [[BrainUploading was one with the computer himself]], but Daxter's ''whole body'' getting sucked through the ''screen''?

** MomentOfAwesome: Jak vs. Floating War Factory. Jak wins.
** FunnyMoments: [[Funny/JakAndDaxter Several]], but ''Jak 3'''s [[TheReveal Reveal]] probably takes the cake.
** HeartwarmingMoment: The "find my son" scene from ''Jak 3'', followed by a true testament to Daxter's friendship.
*** Also: "I'm proud of ya, Dax."
