** Even non-gamers would get a chuckle out of his stupid name, ''Estus Pirkle''?

* EnsembleDarkhorse: That weird, [[{{Squick}} gross]], unintentionally LaughablyEvil Commissar who shows up several times to KickTheDog (... with [[RapeDiscretionShot implied]] [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil rape]] of [[DamselInDistress a woman]] after killing her husband, [[OffWithHisHead chopping]] off a [[WouldHurtAChild kid's head]] and [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking talking]] like [[DeepSouth Foghorn Leghorn]] doing a bad [[VampireVords Dracula]] impression) sems to border on this.

%%* IdiotPlot: Even disregarding the obvious "Communism is evil" message the movie tries to get across. It's clear that everyone in the fictionalized story told by Estus is dumber than a sack of bricks. None of the Christians enslaved by the Communists even make an attempt to fight back and look pathetically weak when they are inevitably killed (given this is the DeepSouth, where guns are prevalent, especially in the 1970s, it'd have made things a lot easier unless the Commissar rounded them up for his army's use). And while the Communists are only slightly more intelligent than the people they're enslaving, they're outnumbered immensely, making the fact that the Christians (and possibly every other religious person in the area) be utterly useless and incapable of fighting back all the more baffling.
