* FashionVictimVillain: Freddie Lounds, and probably intentional to match with her character as a trashy tabloid blogger. Her clothes almost always have some kind of garish pattern.

*** Also in episode 6, poor Miriam Lass. An ambitious trainee that convinces Jack Crawford to let her pursue the Chesapeake Ripper, a pursuit that brings her to Hannibal's office [[spoiler:where she discovers that ''he'' is the Ripper just before he chokes her into unconsciousness. Worse, he keeps her alive at least long enough to record a message for Jack.]]

*TheWoobie: Will, so very much. When he relived the [[spoiler:murder of the night nurse]] in episode 6, he has tears in his eyes. Also, arguably, Abigail Hobbs, depending on how much you think she knew about her father's crimes.

* SeinfeldIsUnfunny: The source books popularized a great deal of serial killer tropes, and even originated some of them. Some viewers have complained about the focus on yet ANOTHER tortured profiler... when really, Will Graham was the basis for a great many tortured profiler characters.

** In regards to Will, it's not that far-fetched to say something's wrong with him. He keeps placing himself in various killers' shoes, and [[spoiler: the Angel Maker sees his head on fire, just like his "evil" victims]]. Whether or not those things are deliberate foreshadowing of Will eventually killing or simply tragic side effects from using his gift of empathy is anyone's guess.

* CriticalResearchFailure: In 'Coquilles' Graham claims that angels having wings is a secular belief, and that angels in the Bible don't have them...except there are at least ''two'' examples in the Bible of angels not only having wings but a record of their number; six. Admittedly those were seraphim, but they still count as angels.

* MisaimedFandom: There's a rather large chunk of the fandom that tend to romanticize Hannibal's killing and cannibalism. And another section that think Will's disorder is him just repressing the urge to kill.

* ShipToShipCombat: Graham/Lecter versus Hannibal/Clarice, which reached rather disturbing homophobic undertones of hypocrisy when one person cried that Graham/Lecter fans were not only missing the point, but not [[ThinkOfTheChildren considering the children that might see their adult-oriented creations]]. Yeah, the cannibalism, murder, and pseudo-incest brainwashing are all child-safe, but when you make it between two men, America crumbles.

* TooSoon: Why the planned fourth episode, "Œuf," was pulled from the schedule on NBC. BryanFuller himself insisted on it largely because of the December 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting (which occurred after the episode was filmed.)

No matter how much you WANT it to become Memetic Mutation, there\'s zero reason to mention something that MIGHT, but as of now HASN\'T, become an example of it.

* CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming: Unexpectedly, the pilot has one. Graham finds a lost dog wandering on the side of the road, then stops his car, turns the lights on, and opens the back hatch to let the dog in. When he takes the dog home, it's revealed that this is apparently a habit of his, and he cares for all his canine companions very well. Bonus points for showing a different side of Graham than his usual GoodIsNotNice.
