* DorkAge: Season 5. From the start, it was overshadowed by the death of Cory Monteith, featured performances of songs that had not been released yet in the timeline of the show (like Katy Perry's "Roar" and Miley Cyrus's "Wrecking Ball both released Fall 2013 even though it was set in Spring 2013), asinine storylines (like an episode based around twerking and a scene where Will punishes Marley for not wearing a skimpy outfit, and the infamous "Puppet Master" episode). To top it off, they decided to ditch the Glee club entirely for the second half of the season, essentially firing 5 regulars in the process. Had the show not been renewed for Season 6 before the season started, it likely would have been cancelled as viewership tanked during the season. Season 6 tried to rectify it by going back to the Glee Club but Fox had already made the decision to cancel the show by then.

Instead, the show began to focus on what the old cast was doing out of the club. Of course this severely backfired as viewership went down for those episodes as they found out that the majority of fans did want to see the Glee club, which would explain why they went back to it for Season 6.

Critical Research Failure is a disambiguation page

* CriticalResearchFailure: Tenure in public schools does not work like it was portrayed on ''Glee''. Most teachers receive automatic tenure after 3 years working in the same school as insurance against wrongful firing and budget cuts; a tenured position doesn't open up just because a long-time teacher resigns. Likewise, teacher specialties--in this case, Spanish and History--are misrepresented: Teachers study from 4-6 years to be qualified to work in their schools, and even then only in their specialty. Scheuster would not have just wandered into the high school and asked for a Spanish position, nor could he have switched to the History department on such short notice; he needed qualifications.

* ImprovedSecondAttempt: One common criticism of season four was that many of the new members of New Directions were too similar to the original cast. At the end of season five, most of the new additions were written off and a new slate of members joined in season six. These new members were received better by the fandom for having unique personalities and not being obviously based off of the original cast.

* IdiotPlot:
** Quinn has to tell Finn that she got pregnant when he ejaculated in a hot-tub with her in it, which is complete crap, and the reality was she slept with Puck. Instead of lying about the hot-tub, she should have just had sex with Finn the moment she found out, and waited a week or two before revealing she was pregnant, and told Puck the baby wasn't his.
** Terri has a hysterical pregnancy, and at first tries to get pregnant for real, but it fails, so she starts wearing a fabric baby bump. Instead of faking a miscarriage, she continues the ruse for fear of losing Will, her husband. Eventually she hits upon the idea of adopting Quinn's baby, when it's likely that ''everyone'' in the Glee club would be around the birth, and it'd be damn near impossible to hide the fact she now has Quinn's baby. There's also the question of exactly how far along the two women are. If Quinn was even a month behind, it'd mean the baby would be massively overdue. An even smarter solution would be to fake a miscarriage with her doctor, then offer to adopt Quinn's baby properly. Also, the doctor is roped into going along with Terri's charade via a ridiculous threat from Terri's sister that she clearly has no real ability to follow through on. Of course, it all comes crashing down, spectacularly.
** Two of the conflicts in "Grilled Cheesus" - Kurt disliking the club singing religious songs because the religious right often demonizes gay men like him, and Sue trying to shut down said lesson being partly motivated by her own loss of faith after God never answered her prayers to protect her disabled sister - hinge on the idea that no one, not even the teachers, seems to have even ''considered'' that a person could live without religion. The entire episode has people proselytizing to Kurt (with one scene of Emma doing the same to Sue) and insisting that he needs religion in his life, and only doubling down when Kurt's growing discomfort should have made it clear that their attempts were doing more harm than good.

Namely, Sam was getting a drink out of a water fountain. Dave was thirsty and looked to see who was at the fountain. He saw, and then, continued walking until he found another one. If Santana thought that his eyes were specifically on the bottom, that's probably because that's where hers were.

** The show falls under this quite a bit, largely thanks to the popularity of ''Film/HighSchoolMusical'', a movie with a very similar premise that actually was for kids. Except ''Glee'' isn't as kid-friendly as ''High School Musical'', as it has the following: jokes about oral sex, dancingg which borders on dry adults, sex between teenagers and older, married adults, the president of the celibacy club getting pregnant, boys complaining about "erupting early" and an adult former student corrupting kids by giving them pornography, alcohol, and lessons in stealing, and that's all within the first five episodes. The characters have freely sworn, used drugs, cheated on each other, got pregnant at 16, lost their virginity, deal with homophobia, etc. A later episode had two teen girls becoming the first to reference in dialogue a certain sex act by name on US network TV. It doesn't help that ''Glee'' covers were often played on Radio Disney, or that much of its marketing was made to appeal to the tween crowd.

Foe Yay has been cut

* FoeYay:
** Bryan Ryan (Neil Patrick Harris) and Sue, who have angry sex even after Bryan cuts the Cheerios budget in half. HilariousInHindsight when you realize that both Neil Patrick Harris and Jane Lynch are gay.
** Rachel and Quinn. One of the most popular {{Fan Preferred Couple|}}s, and the bulk of the Gleeks have said if Finn and Puck weren't in the picture, they would've wound up together.
** Puck's bullying of Kurt and Kurt's growing confidence in standing up to him led to this interpretation for a lot of people. Funnily enough, this was never applied to Kurt and Karofsky during the first season even though it turned out that the fandom idea of Puck's feelings towards Kurt was essentially the canon version of Karofsky's.
%%** Kurt wants to lock Rachel in his basement. Until one remembers that his basement is also his bedroom. That doesn't have sexual undertones due to him being gay, but one does have to wonder why he'd want to lock someone he has so many issues with in the place where he sleeps.
** The "Smooth Criminal" cover ''oozes'' this due to the sheer charisma of Naya and Grant - which is honestly funny considering Santana and Sebastian have a fully IncompatibleOrientation. Despite this, some viewers joked that there was more chemistry in these numbers than some between actual couples.
** Kurt and Sebastian. Between their sniping at each other and shared interest in Blaine, certain interpretations can be read into their interactions. Klaine may be king in terms of popularity, but Kurtbastian has significant following as well.
** Sue sometimes gets this with Will Schuester, due to her intense focus on him and her threats towards him usually involving the two getting into each other's personal space. "Funk" seemed like an early lampshade of this. It's also one of the Foe Yay interpretations that doesn't tend towards the enemies-to-lovers route; if Sue and Will are together, they're having angry sex.

** How [[http://jezebel.com/5553837/glee-awkwardly-sexual some viewers]] reacted to the Will/Sue relationship in "Funk." Basically, if your reaction wasn't FoeYay it was probably this.

** People who don't like [[MarySue Blaine]] call him 'Bland' or 'Plain Blanderson'. And Klaine is renamed 'Kland'.

** Fandom tends to call Kurt 'Dolphin', due to Brittany's "dolphins are just gay sharks" line, or 'baby penguin' due to Blaine's comparing Kurt to one in season 2.
** Dave is referred to as 'Yogi Bear' or 'bear cub' from the Scandals scene in “[[Recap/GleeS3E5TheFirstTime The First Time]]”.
** While not a nickname, there are quite a few people in the fandom who love Quinn's first name Lucy and refer to her as such in fanfiction.

** The short dance Brittany and Santana share during The Troubletones performance of "Survivor/I Will Survive" has been dubbed the "Brittango".
