** And not only that, but that scene of the three girls talking to a crow about African-American rights and the plight of the black man in America will probably make a Website/{{Tumblr}} user either roll on the floor laughing or utterly cringe in disgust at how familiar the exchange is (in regards to Afro-Americans and pretty much any other non-white, able-bodied heterosexual group).

* {{Sequelitis}}: ''WesternAnimation/TheNineLivesOfFritzTheCat'' was written and directed by Robert Taylor, without the involvement of Creator/RalphBakshi or R. Crumb. However, producer Steve Krantz and actor Skip Hinnant worked on both films.
* UnintentionalUncannyValley: Several of the crow characters are drawn with visible cheek bones to resemble African-American humans. Needless to say, it looks a little... off.

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: The extended transition sequence with the crow snapping his fingers to a Bo Diddley song comes and goes without much context. It does't have any relation to the story nor is there any need to go on for as long as it does, [[RuleOfFun but it's still a fun and memorable little scene.]]

* AdaptationDisplacement: Would anyone have known about the R. Crumb comic if not for this highly controversial movie adaptation?

* {{Base Breaking Character}}: Fritz himself is a major one. Depending on who you ask, he's either funny and charming, or one of the most unlikable characters to ever come from an animated film.

* HarsherInHindsight: The riot scene is uncomfortably familiar to modern audiences thanks to events like Ferguson, the LA Riots and the murder of George Floyd.

** The girls in the beginning of the film are straight up "social justice warriors."

* HilariousInHindsight: At one point, a college girl asks why an actor like Creator/JamesEarlJones always has to play black characters. Three or four decades later, we have Creator/MichaelClarkeDuncan [[Film/Daredevil2003 playing]] ComicBook/TheKingpin, Creator/SamuelLJackson [[Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse playing]] ComicBook/NickFury, and Creator/LaurenceFishburne [[Franchise/DCExtendedUniverse playing]] [[{{Superman}} Perry White]].

** Fritz comforting Harriet after he fails to save her from being gang-raped. It's the only time he genuinely shows concern for anyone but himself.
** [[spoiler: Harriet]], now a priest, and the three girls from the beginning visiting [[spoiler:Fritz in the hospital]] at the end. Not only do we know that [[spoiler:Harriet]] managed to escape her monstrous boyfriend but the implication that the girls liked him enough after one encounter to travel all the way to California to visit him.

* NightmareFuel: Harriet getting sadistically beaten by her boyfriend and his gang, who are heavily implied to gang rape her immediately afterwards. Not only is she screaming and crying for them to stop the whole time, but the music score eventually devolves into [[HellIsThatNoise cacophonous, atonal noise]], making the whole scene viscerally horrifying. The fact that [[ViolenceDiscretionShot we]] [[ViolenceDiscretionShot don't]] [[ViolenceDiscretionShot even see the worst of it]], with the scene cutting to [[MoodWhiplash a quiet evening outside their hideout]] a few minutes later, makes it [[NothingIsScarier even scarier]]. Fritz's ThousandYardStare after entering the lizard woman's car says it all.
** The entire riot scene. An all-too-familiar sight [[RippedFromTheHeadlines in the sixties]].

* TearJerker:
** Duke the Crow getting shot by a stray bullet. Not only is he one of the friendlier and more sympathetic characters in the movie, but he's also [[OnlyFriend the only male character to care about Fritz's well being]]. Even sadder, Fritz barely noticed he was even there in the first place. He doesn't even bother to bat an eye at his corpse.
** Fritz comforting Harriet after she's been gang-raped. Unlike Duke's death, this time [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil he's a lot more sympathetic]]. If you look closely, he can be seen shedding a tear while walking away from her.

* AcceptableTargets
** Hippies. They're depicted as privileged, culturally and socially-neutered kids from sheltered upbringings with {{first world problems}} and no survival skills who only take part in social issues to be cool.
** [[RichKidTurnedSocialActivist Rich kids turned social activists]]. They're well-intentioned (at least in regards to the three girls Fritz has sex with) but ultimately full of shit, and their actions are at best uninformed (the aforementioned three girls) and at worst make things a hundred times worse (Fritz himself, whose call for revolution ends in a race riot).
** Radical non-conformists are just {{straw nihilist}}s looking for an excuse to harm others.
