* LesYay: Fang and Vanille come very close to crossing the border between subtext and text. [[http://www.viddler.com/explore/GamingParodies/videos/144/ They're not even trying to hide it.]] If you try really, ''really'' hard, you can say they're [[OneeSama "like sisters"]] or simply a RomanticTwoGirlFriendship (despite both of them being well past the age at which such things are common), but the {{Yuri}} angle is clearly intentional - even if, [[MoralGuardians for some reason]], it's never stated outright.
** And a short scene when Fang wants to take a look at Lightning's mark. For which she turns her back to the camera and unzips her jacket, leading to Fang leaning over to take a close look, telling Lightning not to be shy about it.

* HilariousInHindsight: After the party crash lands in the Vile Peaks, [[spoiler: Sazh asks Vanille (about her ignorance) "What, did you sleep through history or something?" Vanille laughs and answers, "[[HumanPopsicle More or less.]]"]]

** Sazh has been dubbed both "Chocobro" and "Chocofro" by his adoring legion. And thanks to Gadot's expy mention he is now called (by the fans that hate him) "not-Wakka".

** Snow's Gestalt mode has been dubbed "The Motordyke" by a portion of the fandom.

** [[spoiler:Even worse was they basically had no choice on it happening either, and it WAS basically a Miracle. Official Squenix explanation for everything? A Goddess did it. A Goddess which was barely even mentioned in the story also. Nice plotting there, Square.]]

* CompleteMonster: [[spoiler: Galenth]] wants to kill everyone, and [[spoiler: Orphan is a nihilist who wants to bring peace by killing everyone. He also turns most of the party into zombies, and then repeatedly injures and cures Fang in order to try to force her to finish summoning Ragnarok.]]

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Sazh.

** Part of this may be explained because originally, Fang was written as a male character but was gender-swapped so they could have a traditional three-female party.

** At seeing another black character. (Amazing how many people assumed he was the first despite [[FinalFantasyVII Barret]] being around for years prior. ([[FinalFantasyVI General Leo]] was around before Barret even; although it's not like anyone could really tell without looking at the Wiki.)

* OnlyTheAuthorCanSaveThemNow: The ending. [[spoiler:There are at least eleven DeusExMachinas in the last half hour of gameplay.]] These include [[spoiler:[[AssPull Lightning, Snow, Hope, Sazh, Dajh and Serah's "will-powered" transformation from crystal stasis back to human form, the four unexplained brand removals, and Ragnarok's power being used to save Cocoon, when the game has been insisting for the last forty-something hours that Ragnarok's only use was to destroy it.]]]]

** A solution is to start off by debuffing the enemy with a SAB and then switch to all RAV. The extra damage will raise the chain gauge fast enough that you can stagger the enemy without a COM. Also, when SABs deal damage, they hold the stagger gauge steady like COMs do.

* XenSyndrome: Completely Inverted as the consensus is that the game is much much better when you get to chapter 11 (it's all linear up to that point).

* HateDumb: Before this game was even released in ''Japan'', this game had a hatedom. Naturally of course, they hadn't even played it.
