* ScifiGhetto: An odd case. Whole episodes seem to go by where the whole "invaded by aliens" plot is just in the background as character development takes place, causing a BrokenBase. Some fans love the story arcs that focus only on the characters in the show, but the scifi fans get frustrated at the lack of actual science fiction going on in a show with ''already'' short (10-episode) seasons.

Some fans love the story arcs that focus only on the characters in the show, but the scifi fans get frustrated at the lack of actual science fiction going on in a show with ''already'' short (10-episode) seasons. For two episodes straight in season 3, the only aliens seen (skitters, all) only show up as antagonists in very short (thus cheap) CGI scenes as antagonists, and one skitter in a short scene mostly there to hand over the AppliedPhlebotinum.

* CharacterShilling: In season 1, happened to Jimmy. Jimmy, being just a kid, screwed up, a lot, but Weaver insisted he's a good fighter constantly and praised him quite a bit when he really should have told him to stay back and give him less important roles. Due to his age, its understandable that he'd make so many mistakes, but that doesn't excuse the fact he was constantly allowed to go out and do work he clearly wasn't qualified for. Fixed in Season two, where he's shown to fairly competant with a sniper rifle, [[spoiler: only for him and Ben to attempt to take on three Skitters up close, with Jimmy charging at the skitter while using his sniper rifle as a club, and ends up getting himself killed.]]

* {{Fanon}}: There are a lot of fans who think that the harnesses turn humans into skitters. Admittedly harnessed humans have been shown in various states of gray-green skin creeping across their faces, and the harnesses have some absolute effect on their wearers, however there has never been any solid evidence that skitters are changed humans. Karen has been harnessed and heavily used by an Overlord for a very long time yet she still maintains a human skin tone and doesn't show any signs of sprouting extra limbs. As a matter of fact in season 2 the red-eye skitter says that skitters are an enslaved race from another planet. However this has not stopped fans from insisting on the "harnesses turn their wearers into skitters/something else". While the writers continue to leave this ambiguous, the fanon continues.

Er...no. He\'s probably an inversion: He has done far too many things to deserve the amount of trust he gets, as little as that is. He took them hostage with the intention of killing Tom, forcing Hal and Dai to join them and make Karen into a sex slave. He knocked Dai out and drew attention to their location. He tried to kill Tom because he was possibly a threat and looked for any excuse he could to rail at him. He \'\'stole Jimmy\'s compass from his dead body just because he could\'\'. And tat\'s forgetting he is a confirmed sociopath only out for himself and the chance to kill something, and has no problem with it being skitters or humans. Pope is an entertaining character and occasionally comes off as a Jerk With A Heart Of Gold, but he\'s still pretty monstrous. And, averting that trope, he\'s not a villain, he\'s a distrusted figure.

* DesignatedVillain: Pope, as far as the leadership of the 2nd Mass is concerned. True, way back in the second episode he took the main characters hostage. True, he gave away the position of the 2nd Mass... though he was probably under pressure to do so. However, when it comes down to it, he hasn't really done much else to deserve spending the first season locked up nonstop and treated the way he is - what with humanity having bigger fish to fry and all.
