** For melee builds, especially those not using [[GameBreaker Physical Shield]], Arachanox is one of the hardest bosses in the game as it's a LightningBruiser who takes little damage from any attacks except ones aimed at it's face while charging it's strongest attack. So melee fighters have to spend most of the fight running away from it's charges and sweeping attacks only to charge in to hit it's face then run away again before it's ultimate attack hits them.

** Twinblade is particularly difficult for mage builds as he only takes damage if attacked from behind when his swords are planted in the ground. While archers can get off at least one full powered shot and melee builds can get a few swings in, most mages will only get a single spell off before he's no longer vulnerable.

** For half his fight, Maze is a nightmare for archers. He automatically deflects arrows while within a given range and both the start and end of the fight has you fight him well within said range, forcing you to run away far enough to actually be able to shoot him or rely on subpar melee attacks or spells.

* StockFootageFailure: The Guild Master will let you know when your heath or will energy is low even when [[spoiler: Jack Of Blades is burning down the Guild, and The Guild Master himself is lying wounded and barely able to speak.]] In the expansion, he can keep informing you of the blazingly obvious even when [[spoiler:he is ''dead'']].

*** As mentioned on the main page under BoringButPractical, [[ManaShield Physical Shield]] makes you take no damage so long as you have mana to power it. That alone makes it moderately useful, but it also knocks back enemies who hit you, prevents you from getting knocked back when hit, and protects your combat multiplier (resulting in more experience gained).

*** Berserk + Multi-Strike. By themselves these are both useful spells, but together they let you do a lot of [[UnblockableAttack un-blockable]] damage very quickly.

*** Enflame, especially at higher ranks, does a lot of damage in a wide range and also knocks the enemies down.

** Some spells can approach game breaker territory:

* CompleteMonster: [[BigBad Jack of Blades]] is an ancient being from the Void who arrived in Albion millennia ago, and wreaked multiple catastrophes upon humanity for refusing to bow to him and his cohorts. Jack survived his physical form's destruction by placing his soul in his mask and now [[GrandTheftMe body snatches]] whichever luckless man wears it. Jack razed the village of Oakvale, personally murdered the [[PlayerCharacter Hero of Oakvale's]] father, [[EyeScream ripped out his little sister's eyes]], and imprisoned his mother for decades of torture. When Jack meets the Hero as an adult, he tries to force him to duel his best friend to the death, he convinced Lady Grey to murder her older sister to become Mayor of Bowerstone, and later, after finding out his [[TheDragon right-hand man]], [[spoiler:Maze]], was killed, Jack says he planned on killing him anyway for [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness outliving his usefulness]]. Jack's ultimate goal is to reclaim the Sword of Aeons, and he's been pursuing the Hero's family because the weapon's godlike power can only be activated by sacrificing members of their bloodline. Jack and his forces attack Albion to claim the sword, ending with him murdering the Hero's mother before his eyes. Jack then promises that after the Hero dies, the world will burn. In ''The Lost Chapters'', Jack again cheats death through his mask and tries to corrupt the Hero into murdering his allies before attempting to steal his body as well. A being of pure evil who takes smug delight in his crimes, the shadow of Jack's evil would set the standard for Fables villains to follow.

** You better change your title quickly once you get the opportunity, or else...

* ScrappyMechanic: Small one, but you age physically as you level up. As a consequence, if you powerup too fast too early, you're going to be a geezer and aging yourself down isn't a trivial matter. It can potentially cause a rift in the story in which you end up being older than your sister you meet up with again or even your own mother!

** Also, it is very easy to acquire massive experience early on in ''The Lost Chapters'' by combining the combat mutiplier with the Ages of Skill/Will/Strength potions.

* HypeBacklash: The development team had promised several features that weren't in the game upon its release -- tanned/bleached skin, the ability to plant an acorn and for it to grow into a tree -- and people didn't take to the lack of these features. The sequel didn't receive as much ridiculous backlash mainly because the devs learned their lesson from the first game and didn't promise everyone the moon this time (except for the whole dog gameplay mechanic, anyway.)
* MagnificentBastard: Jack of Blades. Hideously, extravagantly evil, yet cunning and manipulative at once.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot / TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Lady Sophia, the noblewoman HighClassCallGirl HookerWithAHeartOfGold from the Darkwood Bordello, shows a bit more personality than the others, seeming to fall for the hero and expressing a desire to escape the place with him and get married. Several players were disappointed at the realization that you can't actually marry her after setting her free. Twice stupid because this would have allowed Good players an alternative to marrying the evil Lady Grey and still get past the one Demon Door that demands them to have a wife with a noble title.
** Similarly, one sidequest involves you delivering a love letter/poem to a young woman. You're given the option to pass the letter off as your own. If you do, you cannot actually start a romance with the girl, meaning the only reason to do it is ForTheEvulz.

* CompleteMonster: [[BigBad Jack of Blades]] is an ancient being who lives through the mask he wears and [[DemonicPossession possesses]] the luckless men who wear it In the past, Jack of Blades led the burning of the kingdom of Albion for refusing to bow before him and his comrades. He burnt the home of the first game's Hero and ruthlessly blinded his sister, later killing their mother as well. Ruthless, vicious and cruel, Jack would set the standard for Fables villains to follow.

* NoSympathy:
** The lack of sympathy shown to the Hero about his DoomedHometown and family: Maze teleports him out of Oakvale, away from the destruction of everything he's ever known. When the boy vomits on the ground, Maze just says he thought he would have a stronger stomach and there is nothing to return to. In the morning, Whisper says he was talking in his sleep and must have had a nightmare, and she and the Guild Master chide him for not getting up earlier. The hero [[HeroicMime can't say]] "I'm sorry, I'm a small child who just saw my family, friends and neighbours slaughtered and my hometown destroyed", but no-one seems to give him any thought for it.
** In the expansion, Briar Rose is quite cavalier about telling the hero to go [[spoiler:steal his dead mother's soul]] to power the Bronze Gate.

* ThatOneLevel: Bargate Prison, in the attempt to rescue [[spoiler:your mother]], thanks to an egregious case of FailureIsTheOnlyOption. Nothing you do can prevent [[spoiler:Jack of Blades from capturing you and your mother on your way out. You then endure a long unskippable scene in a prison cell and an irrelevant RacingMiniGame - and then have to repeat it because your first attempt to steal your cell key from the Warden's office invariably fails and you [[StupidityIsTheOnlyOption can't just kill the guy]] while he's reading poetry off a wall with his back to you. To add insult to injury, once you do finally escape, your mother gets [[DamselInDistress re-captured]] in the ''very next quest'']].

** By getting merchants to follow them out of their stores and getting them stuck where they can't move players can safely rob their stores without getting caught. Getting expensive items like Resurrection Phial, and pieces of plate armor that are on display.
