* AwardSnub: {{Music/Madonna}} not receiving an UsefulNotes/AcademyAward nomination for Best Actress, despite the almost unanimous praise and a UsefulNotes/GoldenGlobe win for her work. This makes her one of only ''ten'' actors to ever win a Golden Globe for a performance but not be at least ''nominated'' for an acting Oscar for that performance, with others including Creator/RobinWilliams for ''Film/MrsDoubtfire'', Creator/JimCarrey for ''Film/TheTrumanShow'' and ''Film/ManOnTheMoon'', Creator/MichaelCaine for ''Film/LittleVoice'' and Creator/NicoleKidman for ''Film/ToDieFor''.

"And the Money Kept Rolling In (and Out)"; Out)" is a big and showy number about how luxurious Eva's charity is and the fact that the money is being loosely handled in Peron's corrupt government.

"Don't Cry For Me Argentina" is perhaps the musical's most famous song, Eva's big solo, and the includes [[OminousLatinChanting Ominous Spanish Chanting]] that follows.Chanting]].

I realized this could just be tightened up since there's now only one song listed rather than two.

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment:
** "Another Suitcase In Another Hall"
*** It's a PerspectiveFlip sung by Juan Peron's just-ejected mistress, showing the effects of Evita's triumphant progress for whom it resulted in defeat rather than triumph. Plot-wise, it serves no purpose in the play as the mistress, her existence, or this victory are not brought up again. From a technical perspective, though, it does serve a purpose by allowing the actress playing Eva to rest before one of the show's most demanding numbers, "A New Argentina."
*** This is averted in the movie where it's sung by Eva.

The "Rainbow Tour" subbullet is not Adaptation Displacement, since this is about audience's memory and associations while that is not about fans at all.

** ''Evita'' began as a 1976 concept album.
*** Also happens in reverse with said album. The CD was marketed as the West End cast recording, even though none of the main players were in the original West End production. It ignores Elaine Paige's performance, even though this was her starmaking role.
** The song "The Lady's Got Potential" was cut from the original stage version. It reappeared, with very different lyrics, in the movie.
** One of the lines in the song "Rainbow Tour" had to be changed for the movie, for reasons that will become obvious. It originally went:
--->'''Che:''' "She can do what she likes, it doesn't matter much / She's the new world Madonna with the golden touch."

Removing the part about Che since it gets referenced elsewhere with the fly metaphor.

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: "Another Suitcase In Another Hall", a song sung by Juan Peron's just-ejected mistress, which serves seemingly no purpose in the play plot-wise.
** It's averted in the movie, as the song is given to Eva.
** From a technical perspective, though, it does serve a purpose by allowing the actress playing Eva to rest before one of the show's most demanding numbers, "A New Argentina."
** It also serves as a PerspectiveFlip in which we suddenly see the effects of Evita's triumphant progress on someone else, for whom it resulted in defeat not triumph.
** The aforementioned original version of "The Lady's Got Potential" had chemistry student Che randomly singing about his new insecticide.
*** Arguable, as it was meant to be symbolic of the frequency with which members Argentina's revolving door government were dispatched. Alluded to in the movie version's lyrics:

** In the movie, the ending of "Goodbye and Thank You" ''reeks'' of this, especially Che's final pose on the last beat of the song. It's so ridiculously cheesy that it's almost kind of adorable.

* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: Averted (and notoriously). The movie was expected to be very popular in Argentina, but it was received with protest and indignation about [[RonTheDeathEater the heroine's portrayal]].
** Some think that the movie portrayed Evita in a more positive light than the original play--Madonna made Eva look more like a vulnerable, noble-hearted, altruistic woman who believed she was doing good (albeit simultaneously manipulative, hypocritical and enjoying her fame, money and power a little ''too'' much), instead of some social-climbing, power-hungry witch.
** Oddly enough, the stage show ''IS'' very popular in Germany, of all places, and has been staged and revived there numerous times. There are at least four different German cast albums.

* BasedOnAGreatBigLie: According to many Argentinians. The musical is believed to have been based on a tell-all biography of Eva by Mary Main, an Argentine-born Briton - a group that had very little love for the Peronists. The author of the book in question made little effort to document her sources, and much of it has been disproven since its publication.

* BrokenBase: It's relatively minor but there's often some arguments over whether the alteration of Che's character (from explicitly being Che Guevara to an anonymous Everyman) in the movie was a good move or a bad one. Made slightly bigger by the fact that before the movie, all productions had Che as the historical revolutionary, while nowadays there seems to be more productions branching out into making him an Everyman. It doesn't help much that both the musical itself and its creators seem to have wildly varying opinions on which interpretation is "correct"...

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Despite the show's reputation for being unrelentingly negative towards Eva Peron, considering the entire musical is (arguably) Che's interpretation of events, this actually comes into play for ''a lot'' of characters. Particularly Eva and Che themselves. Even the majority of the original creative team were divided about the character interpretations the show offered.
