** Sarah at the end of "Run Ed Run". Her body was stuffed with jawbreakers to the point where it looked like she was about to explode. The [[Main/{{Pun}} gag]] that closes out the episode is that Sarah is very clearly about the vomit all over Eddy from having too much sugar in one sitting.

* AngstAversion: While it is ''meant'' to be PlayedForLaughs, the [[SadistShow sadistic slapstick humor]] and the needless [[KidsAreCruel cruelty from the kids]], is tough to sit through for real life viewers who experienced bullying and lack of friends.

* RootingForTheEmpire: Eddy is disliked by pretty much everyone InUniverse for his scams and bullying (at least until the movie, when the other kids found out that [[spoiler:Eddy's brother was worse than him in terms of bullying others]]). Yet many fans support him as opposed to the kids. This is understandable, as Eddy usually gets karmic retribution for his {{jerkass}} behavior and he's one of the three title characters, while the kids get away scot-free for theirs.

* SalvagingStory: The episode "Here's Mud In Your Ed" seems to be more of an apology to fans who hated "If It Smells Like an Ed" due to the fact that Jimmy went too far with his retribution and framed all three Eds when it was only Eddy who humiliated him. In the former episode, Jimmy tells Rolf that only Eddy tricked him out of his money, and they both come up with a funnier, more harmless joke to play on Eddy, and only Eddy, in retaliation.

* DesignatedHero: The Cul-de-Sac kids are meant as {{Hero Antagonist}}s justified in how they treated and [[GreyAndGrayMorality no worse than the Eds]], especially [[VillainProtagonist Eddy]]. But their treatment of them often came off as KarmicOverkill (straight up worse than the Eds, over things [[GuiltByAssociationGag only the other Eds caused]] or accidents/[[MisplacedRetribution outside the Eds control]]), happened even when they did nothing to deserve it, and self-inflicted by [[AesopAmnesia their continuing to trust the Eds despite this]].

* TheScrappy: While pretty much every character on the show has been a jerk at one point or another, the ones that are usually outright despised are Kevin, Sarah, and Jimmy. In order:
** Kevin usually has good reasons for hating the Eds, but he often goes out of his way to harass and/or beat them up even when the Eds weren't even doing anything, such as ruining Eddy's school photo in one episode for no reason other than the fact that he can, and blackmailing Eddy into humiliating himself in front of everyone then proceeding to reveal his embarrassing middle name anyway in another. And it's not even limited to the Eds either, as he also bullies Jimmy for being a crybaby and Jonny for being annoying, and shows more concern over his bike than Nazz in the movie.
** Sarah's hated for being an annoying and bratty half-pint that's rude to pretty much everyone sans Jimmy, and it's abundantly clear she abuses her older brother on a daily basis simply because she knows he's too scared of her to do anything. Like Kevin, she frequently goes out of her way to bully the Eds even when they aren't even doing anything and takes pleasure in tormenting them for fun.
** Jimmy is widely hated for being a whiny crybaby that hides behind Sarah, and often cries wolf so Sarah and the other kids will beat the Eds up. Even fans that didn't mind him agree that he went way too far in "If It Smells Like an Ed", where he frames all three Eds for ruining Friendship Day all over Eddy giving him a wedgie, when Ed and Double D didn't even do anything to him.

*** When it comes to his personality on the show however, Double D is either a smart, ShrinkingViolet NiceGuy, or an annoying MotorMouth InsufferableGenius who rubs being morally superior to his friends in their faces ''way'' too much.

** Kevin. He is one of the least liked characters in the show due to being a typical [[FlatCharacter one-dimensional jerk]] who is lacking in having stand out traits that would make him entertaining or funny like some of the other characters. He's also hated for his unnecessarily cruel treatment of the Eds due to him often having little to no provocation to antagonize them other than simply because he's a jerk, and the fact that it's always PlayedForLaughs and [[KarmaHoudini he always gets away with it]] turns fans off due to finding it more grating than funny. However, he does have some fans who like him for having funny dialogue and only attacking the Eds if they provoke him at times. They also like how he can tolerate Double D and Ed on occasion and only focus his anger on Eddy as he's the instigator of the scams. There's also the fact that he's civil towards his friends and can be a JerkWithAHeartOfGold towards them at worst.

* HypeBacklash: One of the Eds themselves; Double D/Edd was always one of the most popular characters, but some have grown sick of him given [[SpotlightStealingSquad the amount of attention he gets]] and how he is flanderized in fanworks. Especially as the most popular ships in the fandom almost ''always'' involve him.

* EvilIsSexy:
** Marie Kanker, due to her position as an EnsembleDarkhorse, despite not being intentionally designed as such. Her sisters also are similarly popular, albeit to a lesser extent.
** While not exactly evil, Eddy might qualify for some due to his TroubledButCute and LovableRogue traits.

* JerksAreWorseThanVillains: This is the usual sentiment towards Kevin and Sarah due to their mean-spiritedness towards the title characters, and both are the most vocal haters of the Eds and their antics. Meanwhile, the Kanker sisters are the closest thing to the recurring villains (until the movie), as they stalk, bully, and physically harass the Eds and everyone else ForTheEvulz, but they get much less hate than Kevin and Sarah; in fact, out of the Kankers, [[EvilIsSexy Marie]] and [[HiddenHeartOfGold May]] are [[EnsembleDarkhorse particularly popular]], and fans are generally more forgiving to the Kankers because they actually like the Eds and torment them in a LovingBully way (instead of just hating them like Kevin and Sarah do).

** "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUPCb8Uu_0w I'm Not Coming In Anymore]]" can really get you in your feels. People even wanted it to be played during the end credits of the movie.

** [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness An uncharacteristic grumpy Ed]] standing up to Sarah in "Little Ed Blue" is very well-liked for how tremendously satisfying it is to see Sarah be put in her place and frightened by her much stronger older brother.

** In "For the Ed, By the Ed," you were supposed to think that Edd was a double crosser for voting for Plank over Eddy. Given Eddy's unsportsmanlike and egotistical behavior throughout the episode (and the fact that Eddy probably only wanted to win the election due to his own selfish reasons), it's hard to not sympathize with Edd for voting for Plank.

*** When it comes to his personality on the show however, Double D is either a smart, ShrinkingViolet NiceGuy, or an annoying MotorMouth BitchInSheepsClothing who rubs being morally superior to his friends in their faces ''way'' too much.

** Eddy's middle name.

** Ed being in a bad mood over a pebble in his shoe.
** Jimmy bawling and whining as if his foot was broken... when it only got slightly grazed by a ''clothespin'' in "Cry Ed".

** Edd has an episode entirely dedicated to finding a shower after his parents chose to renovate the bathroom without his input. He can't seem to be unable to start his day on the right foot without a shower. If he can't get a shower, he'll whine, go insane, and invite all manner of germs and filth upon himself. This is pretty understandable, due to good hygiene being an important quality in human beings.

* DesignatedHero: The kids may be {{Hero Antagonist}}s, but their actions make them come off more or less like bullies. [[GreyAndGrayMorality The Eds themselves are no saints either]] (this is especially true with Eddy), but they would torment them for little to no reason whatsoever.
* DesignatedVillain:
** The show has the unique distinction of having Designated {{Villain Protagonist}}s, in the form of the Eds. They [[ButtMonkey always lose and end up being treated horribly]] by the end of nearly every episode, and while it's usually Eddy who deserves any of it (although Ed and Edd aren't exactly angels either, to say the least), all three of them still suffer DisproportionateRetribution even if they didn't even do anything that bad. Add to this the fact that most of the rest of the cast [[KarmaHoudini gets away with]] being [[{{Jerkass}} insufferable little assholes]] who are unconditionally mean to the Eds with {{l|awOfDisproportionateResponse}}ittle or [[KafkaKomedy no]] provocation.
** Though Eddy's main schtick is [[AmbitionIsEvil scamming the other kids and being exceptionally greedy]], he's often forced to pay the price for attempting legitimate business ventures. More often than not, he (or the other Eds) put a lot of effort into these businesses. An example of this is an incredibly elaborate theme park ride that showcases the sort of BambooTechnology we might expect from the future, not unlike the kind people ride frequently at Disney World. [[spoiler:They eventually manage to break out of their role in TheMovie.]]
** Jimmy sometimes. Although Jimmy was wrong for framing Ed and Edd (when he should have only targeted Eddy) in "If It Smells Like An Ed", we're supposed to feel sorry for Eddy since he was punished for a prank, while his unfortunate friends were guilty by association.

** "Little Ed Blue": If someone's in a bad mood, maybe ask ''why'' they're in a bad mood first before trying to cheer them up. Double D and Eddy's attempts to cheer Ed up without knowing ''why'' he was mad just ends up making him angrier. If they had simply asked him ''why'' he was so upset, they very easily could have saved themselves a lot of pain.
