Technically, it wasn\'t the double rainboom scene. It was the scene of Rainbow dash discovering how much faster she could fly on the potion.

** The Derpy cutaway scene is ''far'' too long, completely destroying the momentum of the Double Rainboom scene.

* {{Padding}}: If you felt that the pacing was off, it was because the episode was an animation project for an art school, and one of the requirements was a 30-minute running time.
** The Derpy scene is ''far'' too long, completely destroying the momentum of the Double Rainboom scene.
** The opening shot of the episode is a solid 30 second long shot of Twilight mixing potion ingredients while making random facial expressions. It goes on for so long that it starts to feel like an OverlyLongGag, except there's no gag. It's just Twilight sitting and mixing ingredients.

It goes on for so long that it starts to feel like an OverlyLongGag, except there's no gag. It's just Twilight sitting and mixing ingredients. The reason for this is it was originally a promo to show off their production values, which they then just decided to leave in the episode unaltered.

These aren\'t YMMV. Moving.

* DemotedToExtra: Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, and Rainbow Dash are the only Mane Six members who get any prominence. This wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for the SpotlightStealingSquad issue, discussed below.

* SpotlightStealingSquad: Another common complaint is that so much time is spent showing off the fandom's favorite background ponies that the Mane Six are shafted. And of course there's [[spoiler:the Powerpuff Girls]].

Roid-rage - If they\'d used his name, that would be fanon. Including him in the movie? Not fanon. Doctor whooves and derpy - Not fanon. Both ponies exist in the show. Pinkie Pie\'s reality warping - Not REALLY fanon, though the fans exaggerate it. The link I provide in the spoiler shows an example of her doing JUST THAT. I left that in my version of the \"fanon\" listing because, yeah, they did exaggerate it. It went further than it actually does in the show. The scootaloo chicken joke - Not fanon. The joke was actually in the show, and I provided proof. A popular fan joke does NOT make it fanon. Derpy having a long scene is NOT fanon. She has an equally long scene in the show. You need to learn what fanon is.

The reasoning behind the scene doesn\'t make it any less padding. Also adding an example.

** The Derpy scene is ''far'' too long, completely destroying the momentum of the Double Rainboom scene. Especially bad since this is a character whose entire gimmick is blink-and-you-miss-it appearances.
*** [[Main/WordofGod Word of God]] says that the Derpy scene in particular was written before Season 2, where Derpy's background appearances became intentional. As such, this would have technically been one of the first scenes early on in the fandom where the entire focus was on Derpy.

But people don\'t have problem with specific examples, they have problems with the general atmosphere. Just nitpicking it based on \"Well not every example technically falls under the exact definition of fanon\" isn\'t even the same point as what was intended. Also, the only reason I\'m being so adamant about having this here is because I\'ve seen many people have this complaint. This isn\'t just me going \"Oh I have this opinion, therefore everyone does.\"

Merely having roid rage isn\'t fanon, because he\'s in the show. L Ike it or not. The authors being on billboards is a shout-out, not fanon. Derpy having a long scene isn\'t fanon. I don\'t think you know what FANON means. It means \"things often accepted by fans as being canon\" Fanon would include fan-names for the characters, the aformentioned \"scootaloo is an orphan\", etc. Most of what you mentioned isn\'t fanon.

Fine, I went out to find more. Derpy\'s long scene, Roid Rage/Snowflake random appearance, Berry Punch has a wine cellar, several billboards featuring fan websites/authors... I just put down several instead of every single example because for a lot of tropes, you normally don\'t need to cite every single source to back up your claim. There are probably metatropes that back me up, but I think they only apply to adding shows to example pages, not examples to show pages.
