* BrokenBase: A minor one involving ''[[UpdatedRerelease Last Recode]]'' and its scaling of difficulty and grinding. In general, the player no longer really needs to grind; just by playing the story and then running an area or two on the side if they're not up to snuff for the next major beat, they'll always be overleveled. And this isn't considering Haseo being blatantly strengthened to reduce the challenge, in a game where he genuinely became overpowered anyway. There's some fans that swear by the original [=PS2=] releases as a result of these changes, while most generally accept the quality-of-life improvements, ''especially'' in regards to inventory management.

*** Yata's bemoaning a girlfriend is especially hilarious in multiple ways. Aside from being a complete inverse of Yata's MotiveRant that the original scene leads to, 1) Yata's acting like the 17-year old he actually is, 2) he calls Haseo "a nerd", and 3) his bemoaning of Pi being an old hag becomes rich when we finally see what Pi's player, Reiko Saeki, looks like offline in later media...and [[spoiler: it turns out she's quite the knockout IRL too, with proportions not unlike Pi's]].
*** Haseo and Ovan post a video of their...performance of Vol. 1's theme song, "Gentle Hands". [[spoiler: The post earns a wordless reaction and a dislike from Shino]].

** The 4komas themselves, naturally, are hilarious.
*** A montage of Haseo acting like a stereotypical teenager (pining over Shino, brutal in fighting PKers, and just plain being rebellious) is presented by Pi's exhibit...to Atoli, Yata, and Sakaki, the last one just snickering, while the first two are in awe. Even funnier when you consider that [[spoiler: in real life, Sakaki is 10, and Yata and Atoli are 17, same as Haseo]].

* CompleteMonster: [[spoiler:Sakaki]] was merely annoying and overzealous at first, but later revelations removed any kind of sympathy fans might have had for him. Specifically, the revelation that he had been manipulating and controlling AIDA behind the scenes, and that his ultimate goal was to use AIDA as mass mind control over all of humanity. But the biggest blow against him was his treatment of Atoli, who had long been one of his strongest supporters. Turns out he had met her on a suicide website, preyed on her fears about being alone and considered worthless, effectively brainwashed her into depending on him, and then {{Mind Rape}}d her to bring out the power of her Epitaph. When all of his plans fail and he gets infected with AIDA himself, he then spends the first half of the final volume putting together a sadistic tournament for the sole purpose of making Haseo and the rest suffer (harming quite a few others in the process), and ''laughing'' at the pain he's causing.

* MagnificentBastard: Ovan was once an ordinary hacker playing The World who had the misfortune of getting possessed by AIDA, who forced him to put his sister Aina and other players into comas, becoming the notorious [=PKer=] Tri-Edge. To save Aina and the other Lost Ones, Ovan conspired to trigger the Rebirth by manipulating Haseo into fighting and defeating the seven other epitath users, including Ovan himself. Ovan effortlessly manipulates Haseo, the [[EnfanteTerrible cruelly ambitious Sakaki]], system administrators, the World's AI guardians, and even the AIDA possessing him, without revealing his identiy as Tri-Edge until he desires it. His plan to trigger the Rebirth goes off without a hitch and Ovan saves Aina and the Lost Ones at the cost of falling into a coma himself.

* ChewingTheScenery: It's easier to count the character's that ''don't'' do this at some point.
** Notably, Haseo might be the worst offender. He's a massive DeadpanSnarker with NoIndoorVoice who's hotheaded temperament frequently means he'll get into shouting matches with whoever he's with, especially in volume 1. There are no less than ''nine times'' in volume 1's cutscenes ''alone'' where there is a zoom-in on Haseo's face as he's screaming his head off about something.

** vol.1 to the sequels. The combat system is a bit different and slower than the sequels, the steam bike is very slow, hard to maneuver and far from useful, there are some options that were scrapped altogether in the sequels, only weapons can be alchemy enhanced, there's the infamous bugged area that allows for fighting a vol.2 enemy that drops vol.2 items, and so on.
** The new [=PS4=] and PC version, due to being a compilation release, is likely to fix most of these issues, and create proper parity between the three versions.

That said, the port does have some quirks, since many effects were made with the original 30FPS in mind, and weren't redone to put the new framerate into account. Still, a nice option for playing the games, be it for a revisit or if you're playing for the first time.

** Haseo and Atoli in ''Delta: Blurry Obsessive Slacker''. Haseo sees a rare Lucky Animal and wants to kick it; Atoli thinks that kicking it hurts it and it enjoys leisurely walks to be happy. Of all the things Haseo's "bunch of computer data" rant at the end of the area gets wrong, the fact that the Lucky Animal is programmed and doesn't have emotions is the one thing ''does'' apply to and is understandable why it's what pushes Haseo over the edge the most.
** Sakaki at the beginning of Volume 1 - before Haseo's Data Drain - smugly spouts his ideals to Haseo. Atoli comes up and Haseo sees her as Shino, at which point Sakaki notes it's not unusual that other players share that same design. If Haseo had listened to nothing else but that line, a lot of his troubles between him and Atoli in Volume 1 would be solved.
