* AccidentalAesop: Don't rely too much on an assistant AI that's vulnerable to hacking, viruses, corruption, and [[SpaceWhaleAesop demonic possession.]]

* ItsTheSameSoItSucks: This film reuses ''many'' plot elements from the first film, namely, a group of marines arriving at an overrun base and [[spoiler:getting killed off until the main character is left]] and has a female character in the lead group.

* SugarWiki/VisualEffectsOfAwesome: While it's obviously a pretty low-budget affair, the production value they got out of that budget is pretty stellar. The sets have an odd kind of creepiness going, where they simultaneously look painfully cheap and absolutely amazing. The Imp costumes are breathtaking to behold, and Hell looks appropriately foreboding, horrid, and amazing.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: The first film drew the ire of fans for its monsters being mutants and zombies a la ''Franchise/ResidentEvil'' rather than demons. Here the monsters are very explicitly demons, the portals lead to Hell, and we see Hell briefly.

* CompleteMonster: The nameless [[BigBad demon overlord]] is a malevolent alien being and the leader of demonic forces from another dimension. Desiring to retake Earth from humanity, the overlord manipulates humanity into finding the "Gates" on the moon Phobos and then corrupts the head of UAC base on Phobos, Dr. Malcolm Betruger, into opening a way for his demons to invade the facility, killing almost everyone there and transforming them into zombies. As the team of Marines arrives there, the overlord has Betruger manipulate them into opening a portal to Earth, while Marines die one by one, and then, when Lt. Joan Dark gets pushed into his dimension, the overlord taunts her by saying how weak and pathetic humans are, before he orders his demons to charge to Earth and [[KillAllHumans annihilate humanity]].
