* TaintedByThePreview: The new Dante has an emo, dirty look, is scrawny, comes out of an asylum and ''smokes''. The shock was harsh for many fans. The first glimpses of gameplay were received a bit more positively though. Just a bit.

** The Style system has been removed, with a barebones "stance" system in its place. Compared with the versatile 6 styles (varied enough to have ''its own dedicated tournaments''), there's a grand total of two stances, and both dictate what weapon you use. Fans were NOT pleased.

* XPacHeat: Ninja Theory. Needless to say, they haven't done much to warm up to fans.
** The near constant stupid comments they seem to make and complete lack of new gameplay(Seriously, [[TheyJustDidntCare they just seem to use the same gameplay clip over and over]]) doesn't help much.

* '''InNameOnly''': The general consensus. The fact that the devs seem to take a liking to [[TakeThat dissing]] the old series and its fans to make their game look better doesn't help matters.
** It should be noted that Tameem has made statements that basically show that he has never played any DMC games. It certainly makes you wonder what Capcom was thinking when they hired him...

* {{Narm}}: A recently released bit of info says that DINO grew up in [[OrphanageOfFear orphanages]] ''[[CrossesTheLineTwice run by demons.]]'' It sounds like a plot point from a MyImmortal-type fanfic.

** Said "threats" are nothing but Ninja Theory trying to get sympathy points so people will buy the game as "threats" in there book includes the [[MemeticMutation fanmade videos and drawings of old Dante killing new Dante.]]

** Not just the appearance. Dante is said to be half angel/half demon. He's a street punk that tortures his opponents instead of playing with them. He smokes when Dante has said he hates smoking in the main game and the gameplay overall is slower than the original games.

* YourMileageMayVary: Lots of fans really don't like [[TheyChangedItNowItSucks the new Dante's appearance.]]
