* AudienceAlienatingPremise: Subverted. People like TotalBiscuit questioned the marketability of a fighting game simplified down to just two buttons (implying a fighting game for fighting game newbies,) but loaded to the gills with references to the FightingGameCommunity that few outside of it would get. Despite this, it still proved popular with the FGC anyway.

* DudeNotFunny: The characters of Mr. N and Alex Jefailey came across as mean-spirited and spiteful to a VocalMinority. It probably wasn't intended to be this way -- the real Jebailey effectively paid money to be insulted -- but while [[ActuallyPrettyFunny he got a kick out of it]] a lot of other fans didn't see it that way.

Alex Jefailey is an affectionate parody more than anything else. Mr. N is more mean-spirited, but a quick review of the situation on my part finds it somewhat justified. Also, that isn\'t really hype backlash.

* DudeNotFunny: The characters of Mr. N and Alex Jefailey are incredibly mean-spirited and spiteful. Jefailey may be worse, given that Alex Jebailey effectively paid money to be insulted (at least [[ActuallyPrettyFunny he got a kick out of it]]).
* HypeBacklash: DiveKick had a ton of hype before it's release. It was featured on fighting game tournament streams, was at any big gaming convention, and was even getting some press attention. After Divekick's release, the game's hype fell down at an almost 90 degree angle. Tournaments were not getting any entrants and streams became few and far in between. It didn't help that [[UnderNightInBirth newer]] [[BlazblueChronophantasma fighting]] [[KillerInstinct games]](DiveKick developers Iron Galaxy now work on KI) were being released and picked up the hype that Divekick had lost. There is a community still, but you are not going to see Divekick on the main stage a major fighting game tournament anytime soon. That most of its humor is based on mocking the FGC doesn't help; people tend not to play games that make fun of them.
