* PortingDisaster: The UsefulNotes/PlayStation version suffers from lower quality audio and visuals, resulting from the game’s compression to one disc (than the original’s three). It also has memory and sound (voice clips cutting out before finishing) issues. Not to mention the increased amount of [[LoadsAndLoadsOfLoading load screens]] it also caused.

* ValuesDissonance: Lewton's HeManWomanHater and StrawMisogynist tendencies are meant to be a throw back to FilmNoir but don't hit nearly as well as they were meant to even in 1999 when it was released.

Added DiffLines:

* EnjoyTheStorySkipTheGame: The gameplay generally consists of just running down questions and moving from place to place while the story is an enjoyable FantasticNoir.
* SoOkayItsAverage: The game is generally considered to be this due to its lack of puzzles and generally tedious gameplay but strong writing as well as enjoyable characters. The FilmNoir homage also makes it feel more like Discworld than previous pastiches as it is making fun of something specific.

* NightmareFuel: A [[FridgeHorror subtle]] one. [[spoiler:The last time [[EldritchAbomination Nylonathotep]] was invoked, thousands of years ago, the sacrifices forming the octagram were situated at various points around the Circle Sea. It is possible that there are no records of its reign of terror because no civilizations survived.]]
** Who says [[spoiler: all of the Circle Sea was sea back in the past? Might have the land sank or was destroyed when Nylonathotep was banished the first time around, thus forming the sea and destroying the civilization that has summoned it. ]]

* FridgeBrilliance: Horst is really shrewd and well-spoken for a Discworld troll. It's hard to make out in the dark scene, but there's something moving up and down above his head when you speak to him in his residence: a ''fan'' that's keeping his brain cooler, much like Detritus's cooling helmet. Troll brains work better at colder temperatures.
** Subverted: When you first meet him Lewton's narration points all this out. [[spoiler: And later in the game, he's out and about without a punkah-wallah in attendance and shows no sign of getting dumbed down.]]
