** In the newspost for a ''Videogame/BattlefieldHardline'' [[http://www.cad-comic.com/cad/20150323 comic]], Tim repeatedly misspells the name of the hero of the ''Film/DieHard'' movies, rendering it as "[=McLaine=]", rather than the correct "[=McClane=]", but most would expect the guy to know the name of the star of one of the most well-known action franchises in the world, especially if he's basing his suggestion for a new game on it. More forgivable is the fact he also misspells Nakatomi Plaza as "Nakitomi."
** The entire "Trilogy" 3 parter of the Animated series has one in its premise, which (as a ''Franchise/StarWars'' "parody") features Nintendo Knights (stand-ins for Jedi). Thing is, in the comics Ethan is established to not only dislike Nintendo, but be an Xbox Diehard (his robot is a modified Xbox), so if anything, he'd likely side with the 3 parter[='=]s equivalent of the Sith. Furthermore, Jack Thompson is shown working with Hillary Clinton, yet in real life, he objected to her proposals to ban the sale of M-rated games to minors, believing that the bill she proposed would be seen as unconstitutional.

** For The Annotated Series: "HOOOOOOORSE CUM!" (a mondegreen(?) of the expy-Swedish Chef's nonsense dialogue), "Jackie" (a girl Tim Buckley was accused of mailing obscene photos when she was a teenager).

* ItsPopularNowItSucks: Though of the most read webcomics on the web, you wouldn't know this by hearing what people have to say about it.

** A story arc had Lucas discovering a ''Series/GameOfThrones'' CCG game and being informed by Ethan that he had crossed into the realm of "[[EvenNerdsHaveStandards supernerds]]". This is later reinforced by Lucas encountering other "supernerds" who actually have formed a secret society for mutual protection. The strip was released when the ''Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire'' series was still a niche fandom. Now that the ''Series/GameOfThrones'' TV series has bought the universe into the mainstream, the "supernerds" might have found acceptance at last.

** Ethan's "hairbird" ([[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin his hair looks like a bird]]), after someone noticed the resemblance between Ethan's hair and another goon's photoshopped avatar of Nicholas Cage with the caption [[InsaneTrollLogic "My hair is a bird, your argument is irrelevant!"]]. In an odd coincidence, Ethan's hair has become ''more'' bird-like since the haters started using the "hairbird".

* BrokenAesop: One arc involved Lucas going out with a fat woman named Kate; he spends the comic internally monologing about how much he wants to get the hell out of there and making absolutely no attempt to engage with her whatsoever. Then, in a ShockingSwerve, it turns out she was just wearing a fat suit and reveals that she was sick of men only being interested in her looks, before declaring that Lucas was a "really nice guy" and they hook up. Except, of course, Lucas ''was'' only interested in her for her looks. It comes off less "appreciate people for their personalities" and more [[SpaceWhaleAesop "Look, tolerate the fat cow for two hours and she'll turn out to actually be sexy!"]].

* SnarkBait: A general rule amongst regulars of ImageBoards is that nearly any comic ever made can be made up to 500% funnier by removing the second and third panels. Likewise, this is often done in reverse to other comics by [[WallOfText padding the dialogue out into enormous balloons]] by meticulously explaining every single detail, [[DontExplainTheJoke including the joke]], and manipulating all the characters' faces into the same [[DullSurprise bland expression]] used by Buckley in his comics.

** Lilah's miscarriage, which was regarded as narmy for some reason or other.

* CriticalDissonance: Despite that the comic is hated (So much, the main tropes page was even ''locked''!), its readership is large enough that Tim Buckley is able to live off of this comic and related events. Note that for webcomics, this is ''very'' rare.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: [[http://cad-comic.com/comic/endings-and-beginnings/ "Endings...And Beginnings"]] is one, after the InternetBackdraft that arose following [[http://cad-comic.com/comic/will/ "...Will"]], the intended GrandFinale of the on-going Ethan storyline.

* UnintentionallySympathetic: Rob's interest in ''VideoGame/CounterStrike'' as the only game he really plays is supposed to paint him as a "less" serious gamer, which in turn is supposed to make him an AcceptableTarget for a "more" serious gamer like Ethan to heap scorn and abuse on (all of which are PlayedForLaughs). But in practice, Rob pretty much just comes across as [[{{Adorkable}} an enthusiastic, lovable doofus]], who tries his best to bound with Ethan over a shared interest, in spite of Ethan constantly insulting, belittling, and even occasionally physically abusing him.
