* UnintentionalPeriodPiece: Truckers running from cops, lots of CB radio chatter, and Ali [=McGraw=] in an Afro and bell-bottom slacks. If that's not enough, a plot point is the "new" 55 mile-per-hour speed limit, which everyone thinks is what sent the truckers over the edge.

** Judging from the reviews and comments on its IMDB page, this movie apparently has developed a rabid cult following in Europe. And indeed, it is so popular in Germany in particular that the original Rubber Duck Mack eventually ended up in Bavaria.

Added DiffLines:

* TheWoobie: Spider Mike. He is portrayed as a piss-poor trucker who drives [[http://imcdb.org/vehicle_24131-Diamond-T-921-DFN-1963.html easily the oldest truck in the convoy]]. While everyone with a smelly load, which means Pig Pen in the early phases of the convoy, has to stay in the rear parts of the convoy, Spider Mike has to stay at the very end, even behind the stinkers. And it's him who has to leave the convoy to see his new-born kid, just to be caught and beaten to a pulp by the sheriff of Alvarez. Back when the film was made, it was easy to justify all this with him being African-American which, by today's standards, makes the movie seem overly racist (add to this Widow Woman's crash because nobody knows [[ThrowItIn it was an actual accident on the set]]).

** This was a hit in the Soviet Union at the time, as it showed a working-class rebellion against a corrupt government.
