** Stranz and Fairchild have a right to be ticked when after winning a gold medal the reporter only asks them how they feel about Jimmy and Chazz.

* PlayingAgainstType: Though this film was several years before Series/ParksAndRecreation it’s weird to see Creator/AmyPoehler playing a nasty incestuous villain.

* HarsherInHindsight: In 2023 American [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Johnson_(ice_hockey) Adam Johnson]] was tragically killed in a British Elite Hockey League game after having his throat cut by a skate blade. Thus making the jokes about the iron lotus a lot less funny.

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: That ending. After winning the gold medals, Chazz and Jimmy suddenly light sparks up from under their skates and lift off the ground, taking off flying through the open roof into the sky. Since when do skaters magically fly? Since when does magic exist in the film's universe? Other than for RuleOfCool and comedy, this comes completely out of nowhere and provides no explanation for how and why the skating duo can fly.

* TheWoobie: Katie loses her parents in a car accident when she was little (and was in the car with them, no less!) then grows up to be a virtual slave for her unscrupulous siblings, who emotionally abuse her and keep her under their thumb by pinning the blame for their parents' deaths on her head.

Values Dissonance has a 20-year waiting period.

* ValuesDissonance: It's highly doubtful that the deliberately implied HoYay subtext humor involving two men pairing up in competitive figure skating would fly by today's standards.

* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments:
** The opening fight at the podium between Jimmy and Chazz has this gem:
---> '''Chazz:''' Get that damn bird out of my face before I break its neck!\\
''[[[UseYourHead Chazz headbutts Jimmy.]]'']\\
'''Commentator:''' A perfect headbutt!
** The above moment results in Jimmy toppling backwards into another contestant and an official, which creates a domino effect that leads to a torch being knocked onto a mascot and setting him on fire. What sells it is that during the shot where Chazz and Jimmy's fight comes to an end, [[FunnyBackgroundEvent the mascot can be seen running across the rink and toppling over the edge as two of the rink's staff run after him with fire extinguishers]].
** When telling the skaters about the Iron Lotus, Coach Robert admits that he had to take it to North Korea, that being the only place on the planet crazy enough to give it a chance. Chazz's response is an utterly unsurprised "of course", as in "of ''course'' you'd have to go there".
