* WhatAnIdiot: Roscoe went 13 years without knowing that David finked on him, even though David was known to be the town hero. At least this is mitigated for two reasons. 1. David became the town hero due to his success as a writer and becoming a bit of a celebrity. 2. Given Roscoe's reputation as a kid anybody other than David could have ratted him out.

* TearJerker: How everything spiralled out of control. [[spoiler: Roscoe took to bullying David because that was the only way he knew to bond. Dave's childhood was ruined and he wanted to get Roscoe out of his life by any means necessary. Roscoe then stole the Moon Rock because he wanted to become an astronaut. Dave reported him to the authorities not just because it was the right thing to do and he wanted to be the hero, but to deal with him once and for all. But Roscoe was abandoned by his parents and would up in an orphanage and from there to what was basically a prison for kids. When Dave came back in town, things escalated and Roscoe tried to kill Dave, which ended up in Dave seemingly killing him. When Roscoe turns up alive, the two start fighting again and are about to kill each other before their kids intervene. It's even more poignant that they couldn't let go of the grudge when their kids could, and that the fathers never even realized they had ruined each other's life until much later.]]

*** Both movies are rated PG and are from Warner Bros.
*** RickMoranis in the lead role
*** Begins with a flashback to his character as a kid
*** Said character to have wife leave him for unknown reasons and has a crush on a female childhood friend
** Differences:
*** [[CaptainObvious It's not a sports movie]]
*** This movie was also distributed by Morgan Creek
*** David Leary has a son while Danny O'Shea had a daughter, and the former is an only child and isn't exactly as optimistic as the latter.
*** David's wife didn't just leave him, but divorced him
