** [[FoeYay Turkey/Greece]] is a popular fanon pairing. Turkey and Greece [[LoveTriangle both like Japan in canon]]. [[BirdsOfAFeather Greece/Japan]] is more popular in the fandom overall than Turkey/Greece. Guess who gets bashed and unfairly called a RelationshipSue by the rabid Turkey/Greece shippers? ''Especially'' after anime episodes 54 and 55 aired? At least they still take the "just leave him out entirely" option over the "assassinate his character" option in fanworks, though.
** Some America/Russia shippers exaggerate England's possible opposition towards their pet couple (which would be somewhat understandable, considering Russia's [[PsychopathicManchild instability]]) and make him a [[IfICantHaveYou downright]] ''{{Yandere}}'' (as opposed to Russia, who is frequently [[{{Woobie}} woobiefied]] in these fics, ''despite'' being the main {{Yandere}} in the cast).
** Russia. Blame his {{fanon}} status as a MemeticMolester and the way some shippers find it easy to [[CharacterExaggeration exaggerate]] his PsychopathicManchild traits to make him into a CompleteMonster who tortures one half of their preferred pairing so that the other half can swoop in and provide [[HurtComfortFic hurt/comfort]].
** While exaggeration of France's LovableSexManiac traits to {{Jerkass}} [[RapeAsDrama Rapist]] [[CompleteMonster Monster]] levels thankfully doesn't happen on a regular basis, it still pops up occasionally in America/England (double is he's America's EvilMentor in TheAmericanRevolution) and Prussia/Canada fanworks.
** While much ''less'' bashed than her status as the most prominent female character would seem to guarantee, some Austria/Other Males shippers throw pot-shots at Hungary occasionally. Luckily, this is averted quite often due to her being a NinjaMaid, OtakuSurrogate and YaoiFangirl, which greatly softens the blows.
** While not turned into an abusive monster in a regular basis, Austria ''is'' sometimes portrayed by Prussia/Hungary shippers as [[SpectacledSadist cold, neglectful and indifferent]], towards his wife/ex-wife/girlfriend Hungary so she can seek out the "more passionate and fun" Prussia for comfort.
** Some Spain/France shippers do not look favorably on Romano's abrasive personality and [[RonTheDeathEater ramp up]] his {{Tsundere}}ness to DomesticAbuser levels so that France can swoop in and give Spain a truly healthy and loving relationship.
** Poland, as a side-effect of the Russia/Lithuania vs. Poland/Lithuania ShipToShipCombat.
** In Belarus case this is much ''less'' than expected (thank God), but it still pops out once in a while in Russia-centered fics. Fics and arts where she ties up, tortures and ''rapes'' a weepy Lithuania just to prove the point of how underserving of Russia's "love" he is have been spotted.

* TheWoobie: [[IncrediblyLamePun Oh, Canada...]]

** SympatheticSue: When the fanworkers forget that he's got more in his personality than woobieness, Lithuania ends up as this instead.

** China never seems to get any respect, not even from his younger siblings.

** Canada might be ignored in canon, but fans have ''not'' failed to recognize him.
*** SympatheticSue: When the fans go to ''extremes'' though, Canada ends up as this and not as a genuine Woobie. Double points if they [[CharacterDerailment derail]] [[RonTheDeathEater America into an evil]] JerkJock. This phenomenon has reached the point where it's ''costing him character popularity'' in some annoyed fandom circles.

* MemeticOutfit: England's "Britannia Angel" outfit, in which he has magic powers, such as being able to turn other characters back into children. Also his Sexy Waiter outfit.

** Take in account this for example: Denmark was an EnsembleDarkhorse ''before'' appearing in ''any'' strip.

** Some fans have a tendency to turn Canada into a MemeticBadass and DeadpanSnarker instead of the fairly nice, unassertive guy he is in canon.

That said, there are some non-official (though in most cases, buoyed by ShipTease) pairings that are preferred by the majority of fans: America/England, Spain/Romano, Poland/Lithuania, Greece/Japan, Denmark/Norway, and Prussia/Canada.

* RonTheDeathEater: America may have his jerkish moments in canon, but some people make him out to be an absolute and irredeemable {{Jerkass}}, especially when they want to make [[TheUnfavorite Canada]] [[SympatheticSue look better]] or [[DieForOurShip justify England hooking up with someone else]].
** Or a PsychopathicManchild or even SpectacledSadist who treats Japan horribly during/after WWII. Sometimes this is done to [[DieForOurShip send Japan running off into the arms of someone else]], but other times it seems that the fan authors truly believe that America would ''actually'' act like that towards Japan. Keep in mind that while Japan initially resented America, he eventually warmed up to him during Westernization and is clearly good friends with him in the post-WWII strips. You would think that would signify that the events at the end of WWII are far from the be-all end-all of their overall relationship, right? [[NeverLiveItDown Apparently not.]]

* CrazyAwesome: Prussia. His ego could choke a horse, he's a boundlessly ambitious psychotic punk who delights in mischief, and yet caves at the sight of cute things... a freak among freaks, and a fan favorite. Plus, he, Spain and France together form a posse often dubbed the 'Bad Touch Trio', 'The BadAss Trio', or 'The Bad Friends Trio.' [[BadIsGoodAndGoodIsBad They're just a trio of Badness]].

* CrossesTheLineTwice: Some of the lines of the Funimation dub are this.

** Lately, the Nordics, especially [[BoisterousBruiser Denmark]], have been getting this treatment.

* YourMilageMayVary, of course, but little Romano was a inferiority-complex stricken kid [[ParentalAbandonment whose grandfather abandoned]] [[ParentalFavoritism him in favor of his younger brother]], [[FearLeadsToAnger who was deathly worried that Spain and France only wanted him for his grandfather's inheritance and that he had nothing to offer]], [[TheUnFavorite and is often disliked in favor of his much-loved younger brother]].

** Don't forget the USUK fanworks that have America as an horrible JerkAss and borderline BastardBoyfriend while England is a [[UkeFication weepy]] LoveMartyr and PurityStu who endlessly pines for America or lives only to bend over to him... and then they portray it as a "desirable", "sexy" or "sweet" relationship. More than one popular fanworker or doujinshi creator takes this and runs away with it too, being praised and adored by USUK fan circles who don't seem to get why their characterization of ''both'' England and America is extremely OutofCharacter.
