This entry ADMITS that she had those flaws and did those things that she was hated for. It's not taking an aspect and ramping it up on the fandom's part at all.

* RonTheDeathEater: A number of fans hate fifteen-year-old Jean Grey because she's more immature and less powerful than her adult counterpart... which makes as many sense as hating her because she's shorter. She has also taken a lot of flak because of her abusing of her telepathy... even though she doesn't want to read other minds, has been called out on it by other characters, and eventually stopped doing it, which would indicate it was simply a character flaw she had to grow out of.

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Teen Jean Grey is a jerkass brat who abuses her newly-acquired telepathic powers or merely a flawed teenager reacting to an awful situation in believable ways? Let's remember her biggest -and nearly only- crime is reading minds without previous consent; which most of time she does unwillingly because her telepathy is too strong.

* JerkassWoobie: Yes, 05 Jean is immature and abuses her telepathy. But let's recap: She's a fifteen-year-old child who has gotten a traumatic childhood and has just joined a super-team. Then she's all of sudden transported to an horrible future where mutants are ever-persecuted, the X-Men are divided, her life's love and future two-timing husband has apparently become a lunatic terrorist and murderer and she herself has gone crazy, killed billions and died twice, and her hypotetical children have led awful lifes in real bad futures. Also, her telepathic powers have blossomed before she was mature and well-trained enough to control it, and they reveal -even if she isn't trying to mind-read- that most of people surrounding her are two-faced jerkasses or self-serving liars. Understandable she's developed an attitude issue.
* RomanticPlotTumor: A frequent criticism of the Laura/Warren relationship. Particularly as most of their interactions in volume consist of Laura being reckless, and Warren admonishing her for being reckless.

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Teen Hank comes across as this when he calls Jean out on running off with Scott during Battle of the Atom shortly after kissing him. His complains would sound legitimate had it not been for the fact that Jean was right to want to run away and turned to Scott because Hank would not help her out; and the next scenes showed Hank got over it very quick.

** Jean Grey. While most people find her interesting to read, how much they actually like her varies, due to her very abusive use of her powers and her manipulation of her teammates, especially of Teen Cyclops.

** The new costumes have fans divided with mixed opinions on it. Some feel that the old outfits were outdated and long due for a change, while others think they look bland and the colors are just off (it's much less broken for X-23, with fans almost universally wishing she'd go back to her X-Force costume).
** The concept of the book in general is one.

*** The cover of #30 with X-23 and Warren kissing in mid-air isn't exactly doing so hot either. Now that they're become an actual couple, people are generally more clear on their dislike of the relationship, since the two barely interacted at all before.

*** ** The cover of #30 with X-23 and Warren kissing in mid-air isn't exactly doing so hot either. Now that they're become an actual couple, people are generally more clear on their dislike of the relationship, since the two barely interacted at all before.

*** Ironically, after the first arc of the second volume, many of X's fans actually began wishing for Bendis back after the way Hopeless wrote her. The main objections have been Laura's abuse of her HealingFactor and LeeroyJenkins attitude in the second volume, despite historically being portrayed as a very intelligent, methodical, and strategic fighter who does not usually charge into a fight blindly. It's only gotten worse with the beginning of the second arc, and has not been helped at all by Hopeless alternating between trolling her fans and insisting there is an explanation that just hasn't been revealed yet. The fact that most fans view her portrayal in the concurrently-running All-New Wolverine as far superior and much more in-character only compounds the backlash against Hopeless' treatment of the character.
** Cyclops leaving at the end of "Trial of Jean Grey," and whether it should have happened then or closer to his ongoing. Some people think that it shows just how happy he was to not be an orphan anymore, some people are glad that Beast and Iceman can stop being background characters, some people wish he could get more screen time with his older self or X-23, and still some people think Jean's just going to descend further down the slippery slope with no foil to keep anyone in the book sympathetic. Then there's the fans who thought a month was too long to wait for his next appearance.

*** Beyond that is the issue of how this was revealed to Bobby, with some fans feeling that Teen Jean's actions in reading his mind without consent to find out were reprehensible and robbed Teen Bobby of the chance to discover it on his own while other fans don't mind the method because at this point they are well aware of how amoral Teen Jean is about her mind reading and treat it as an establish character flaw of hers (especially since she can't quite control it), and that it appears that his sexuality was causing him quite a bit of turmoil and, looking at his adult self, he's not going to deal with it for some time, making Jean's intrusiveness more well-meaning.

* FanPreferredCouple: X-23 and Teen!Cyclops. Not only were they receiving actual development and build-up towards a potential relationship, but Laura and Scott shared a great deal in common that would allow them to connect. Warren, by contrast, was thrust into the picture despite having not interacted with Laura at all prior to taking an interest in her.

** The revelation that Iceman's Gay made this WeasternAnimation/FamilyGuy joke even funnier (or funny for the first time), now we know where Bendis gets his ideas from.

* JustHereForGodzilla: Due to her various JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope antics, the Teenaged Jean Grey has become the only reason even some Bendis haters are reading this comic.

** So everyone from the Future Brotherhood except for Raze is now suddenly innocent and just mind-controlled by Kid-Xavier? Even Xorna-Jean? Eh. Hell, in the last issue of the Battle of the Atom crossover, we clearly see that Xavier was trying to calm Xornita down when she went psycho. It's later called into question on what Xorn really is, but needless to say, this is not the cleanest of RetCons.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: Attempted in issue 12 when the reasons for Laura's behavior is explained. However X-23 fans aren't biting, and if anything Hopeless' efforts just made the situation worse by framing it as her pretending to be something she's not entirely for Warren's benefit. To say nothing of this effectively being a Retcon of the popular Marjorie Liu X-23 book.
* BrokenBase:
** Even before volume two bowed fans were split on Dennis Hopeless, primarily based on how much readers enjoyed his previous work. It wasn't helped by BrokenBase over Avengers Arena and Undercover.
*** The first couple issues have done little to resolve the situation, with opinions remaining decidedly split. Particularly over his characterization of Wolverine.
** Pickles in volume 2 is either a cute addition to the cast in the book that's not meant to take itself too seriously, or an irritating RidiculouslyCuteCritter worthy Jar-Jar Binks levels of backlash, especially as Hopeless has already said that he's his favorite member of the cast. The fact that if his sole purpose on the team is to act as the team teleporter, despite fan-favorite characters with that power set such as Pixie not being used by the other books, has only added fuel to hate.
* CreatorsPet:
** Pickles in volume 2 is Hopeless's self-admitted favorite member of the cast, with his presence in the book earning backlash — particularly with other teleporters like Pixie available, but unused — a mere four issues in.
** While fans wanted to see Madelyne Pryor appear after her resurrection during Comicbook/AdjectivelessXMen, the Maddie who did get used was instead the alternate universe version Hopeless created for Comicbook/2015: Inferno. That he chose to use his Maddie rather than Prime!Maddie didn't exactly please many fans.
* FanDislikedExplanation: Even before the explanation for Laura's out-of character behaviorespecially that Laura has been unusually reckless, rushing into situations without consideration of the consequences even though she's traditionally been presented as very deliberate and calculating, and a careful strategist was revealed, fans were rejecting it as there being nothing plausible enough to explain it. That Hopeless has also been trolling X-23 fans' reaction only exacerbates it further. The actual explanation — that Laura has been a StepfordSmiler who continues to struggle with her discomfort letting people get close the entire time, is acting out because she doesn't want to be seen as the EmotionlessGirl, and thinks this is a way to be perceived as normal for Warren's benefit — hasn't been particularly well-received, either. Especially because fans view it as a Retcon of all of her CharacterDevelopment in the very well-received series by Marjorie Liu.
* FanPreferredCouple: As above, the preference for Laura and Scott continues into the second volume. While Larren has a few fans, the overwhelming preference for matching her with Scott prevents it from becoming outright ShipToShipCombat. Their reasoning is especially highlighted in issue 12, when Laura's own private thoughts muse that Scott is one of the only people who actually understands her, while it's made abundantly clear that Warren doesn't.
* InformedWrongness: After being relaunched as part of the AllNewAllDifferentMarvel initiative, the 'Cyclops is a villain' theme has been re-affirmed as, following a timeskip, Cyclops did something that has made him become regarded as one of the worst monsters in the Marvel Universe after the reveal about Terrigen Mist's effect on mutants were revealed. As we've not actually been told what it is that Scott did, and the fact that he did said act in response to the fact that mutants are being killed and sterilized by the Terrigen Mist cloud, which was released by Black Bolt without checking if it would harm anyone first, makes it hard for fans to accept him in the wrong. It doesn't help that Teen!Cyclops' description of his adult counterpart's actions leading up to it don't gel with how he actually acted, making him look like, at best, an UnreliableNarrator.
* StrangledByTheRedString: As bad as the fan reaction was under Bendis, readers have objected even more strongly to Hopeless' use of X-23 and Warren's relationship, to the point that the conflict between them has virtually overwhelmed their presence on the book. Everything is about their relationship, with accusations that the characters (especially X) are being twisted grossly out of character just to make the entire thing work.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: The handling of the relationship between Laura and Warren. Many fans felt that Laura's background of abuse (and the fact she was a victim of statutory, if not actual, rape during her time as a prostitute) would have made for a much more interesting source of conflict in her relationship with Warren, particularly as difficulties maintaining healthy relationships are very much TruthInTelevision for real life abuse and rape victims. The actual cause became a FanDislikedExplanation even before it was fully revealed.

However whatever development they had together was subsequently derailed with Scott leaving to go into space with his father. While the cover of issue 20 proved highly divisive, many fans actually found them to be an interesting pairing, both due to the common ground between them, both are victims of severe emotional and physical abuse in their childhoods, both struggle to connect with others emotionally, and because Scott is frequently and unfairly judged for things his adult self did, while Laura still struggles to be seen by others as more than a weapon and a killer with a side helping of CloningBlues and the idea of Scott Summers hooking up with the female clone of Wolverine hit several sources of FetishFuel all at once. Even opponents of the pairing agreed that a scene of Cyclops and Wolverine learning of Scott's younger self and Logan's "daughter" in a relationship was fertile ground for hilarity, and that a relationship between Laura and Teen!Scott would have been far better-established than her subsequent hookup with Warren.

*** Finally, fans are split on the matter of whether or not this means the present day Bobby is secretly gay, as all of the Teen O5 are supposed to be from Universe 616 in the past. If this reveal means Adult Bobby is gay, then it's either the usual issue of Bendis not respecting continuity or it makes sense that Adult Bobby would never reveal his homosexuality in the 1960's era. If Adult Bobby isn't gay, then the past O5 aren't the same people as the future O5 after all and there goes a perfectly good attempt at adding more diversity to an established cast, or it's great news because not every fan likes the past O5 and any proof that the two aren't connected to the same timeline is music to their ears.

The issue was addressed in the crossover Uncanny X-Men #600 where the two Bobbies and Jean discuss it. It establishes to about 90 percent certainty that Adult Bobby has always been closeted and simply didn't want to deal with another source of persecution in his life. There's still a sliver of wiggle room left that another writer could use to write a hetero Adult Bobby, though.

However it all falls flat because the only way the conflict even works to begin with is that Laura is written out of character, when normally she wouldn't be so reckless. X-23 fans are also quick to point out Warren's privileged upbringing, having grown up wealthy with a good family, while Laura was born in a lab and endured constant torture and physical and emotional abuse, to say nothing of the TraumaCongaLine to follow. To most readers it just makes Warren look like a whiny hypocrite, and his efforts to force Laura to change — especially by outright breaking up with her after having her skull crushed by Blob — border on downright abusive.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: Attempted in issue 12 when the reasons for Laura's behavior is explained, however X-23 fans aren't biting, and if anything Hopeless' efforts just made the situation worse by framing it as her pretending to be something she's not entirely for Warren's benefit.

* StrangledByTheRedString: As bad as the fan reaction was under Bendis, readers have objected even more strongly to Hopeless' use of X-23 and Warren's relationship, to the point that the conflict between them has virtually overwhelmed their presence on the book, to the point that their entire conflict in the book is about their relationship, with accusations that the characters (especially X) are being twisted grossly out of character just to make the entire thing work.

** The actual explanation — that Laura has been a StepfordSmiler who continues to struggle with her discomfort letting people get close the entire time, is acting out because she doesn't want to be seen as the EmotionlessGirl, and thinks this is a way to be perceived as normal — hasn't been particularly well-received, either.

* TakeThat: How some fans view Peter Quill's and Teen!Bobby's comments about either not realizing Laura was even with them, or not even bothering to learn her name. These comments are widely viewed as Bendis's response to reader complaints about Laura's out of character voice and her not having anything to do on the team in All-New X-Men.

* WordOfGod: Bendis does this a lot. Notably, his explanation for X-23's apparently out of character voice is that it is a result of her being "changed" by Murderworld. The fans, however, aren't buying it, and it was never addressed in-story.
