Either he's a JerkWithAHeartOfGold who only wants what's best for his family and teach them responsibility, or he's a completely unlikable and amoral {{jerkass}} whose WellIntentionedExtremist actions in his debut feature put him and cold treatment of situations make him a HateSink.

** In "Lady and Peebles," Ricardio clearly has a sexual interest in Princess Bubblegum, saying he wants the "full package" and to be "united as man and wife".

*** In Universe (and to many fans) Tree Trunk's full on make-out sessions with Mr. Pig literally everywhere they go in "Dream of Love".

* TaintedByThePreview: "The Suitor" was a base breaker from the previews because many people were worried about the character potentially sinking ships involving Princess Bubblegum. [[spoiler: This was not the case as A) PB had no interest whatsoever and B) the episode was a complete deconstruction of DoggedNiceGuy.]]

* NeverLiveItDown: Yes, Princess Bubblegum has committed some morally questionable acts, but most PB detractors remember her solely for those specific acts of atrocities instead of the overall kind and well-meaning princess that viewers know and love. The character's voice actress has come to view her as a sort of [[WellIntentionedExtremist "selflessly evil"]] type of character, but BlackAndWhiteMorality is a thing in every fandom.
** "The Cooler", as well as several events throughout Seasons 6 and 7 have had her undergo CharacterDevelopment, which has somewhat redeemed her in the eyes of some of her haters.

* EvilIsSexy:
** Even considering his {{Gonk}}ish facial expressions and the level of BodyHorror he engages in during his second appearance, Ricardio is still a suave, manipulative [[TheCasanova casanova]] with the buttery-smooth voice of Creator/GeorgeTakei, leading many fans to find him attractive.
** Ice King's female counterpart, [[http://www.flickr.com/photos/84568447@N00/5818798956/in/photostream/lightbox Ice Queen.]] Presumably, this is to contrast with Ice King's undesirable appearance. Nonetheless, Natasha Allegri said that she made Ice Queen attractive because she thinks [[LampshadeHanging attractive villains are scarier.]] Justified, considering [[spoiler:she's the Ice King's AuthorAvatar.]]
** Many fangirls see Marshall Lee in this light. It's debatable whether he's genuinely evil or just mischievous, but he's much more threatening than Marceline is, and he's also more explicitly enticing and flirty.

** The girls get this treatment too, for example artists will turn [[NerdsAreSexy Princess Bubblegum]], [[EvilIsSexy Marceline]], and [[FieryRedhead Flame Princess]] into [[MsFanservice Ms. Fanservices]]. Heck, even Lumpy Space Princess (who on-screen is a floating BlobMonster whose only human features are her face and hands) is depicted as a BigBeautifulWoman.

* MagnificentBitch: "[[Recap/AdventureTimeS1E13CityOfThieves City Of Thieves]]": [[BitchInSheepsClothing Penny]] is a thief and resident of the titular city. Taking advantage of Finn's heroic nature, Penny plays the part of a helpless little girl, tricking him into stealing the King of Thieves' treasure chest for her under the claim that it contained her stolen flower basket. After escaping with the treasure, Finn and Jake soon find Penny and scrub her down in an attempt to purify her. Penny then seemingly goes through a HeelFaceTurn, only to run off with Finn's clothes [[KarmaHoudini and continue her thieving lifestyle]].

** The Earl Of Lemongrab was originally very popular in his first appearance, "Too Young", for his memetic catchphrase, "UNACCEPTABLE," and for coming off as UnintentionallySympathetic in Finn and Princess Bubblegum's pranks. However, when he started appearing more often, many started to find his voice and constant shrieking annoying, and what few fans he had left jumped ship after he started abusing [[DomesticAbuser Lemongrab 2]] and [[AbusiveParents their children]], which became ''very'' HarsherInHindsight after his voice actor, Creator/JustinRoiland's abuse allegations in 2023. Another point of contention is how his behavior and mannerisms make him come off as an ableist caricature of Autistic people.

*** The "[[AlternateUniverse Farmworld]]" incarnation of the Lich is an [[AlternateSelf alternate version]] that possessed the body of an alternate version of Jake the Dog who manipulated that world's version of Finn to gain access to the multiverse and build up a mountain of broken bodies, later [[MindRape mentally torturing Sweet P]] for nights on end to try and turn him back into the original Lich. In ''[[WesternAnimation/AdventureTimeDistantLands Distant Lands]]'', Farmworld Lich [[ManipulativeBastard manipulates]] New Death into killing his father and uses him as a puppet to annihilate the cycle of reincarnation, stopping new life from blooming.

** [[OurLichesAreDifferent The Lich]] is an evil, ancient sorcerer, the "last scholar of GOLB", and the series's defining KnightOfCerebus who returns time and time again from seeming destruction focused solely on one thing: [[OmnicidalManiac the destruction of all life]].
