* CharacterDerailment: Parodied with the Susan Orlean character, who starts out as a mildly ruthless but still kind and caring reporter, develops into someone who longs for some sort of passion in her life and envies Laroche for having so many, but eventually goes OffTheRails by the end into a homicidal, lustful drug addict who regrets her entire life. It's a tribute to the movie's screenplay (not to mention the performance of Meryl Streep) that despite being clearly insane, this development somehow ''never seems forced''.
