** Actually the entire script in general was totally wollseyfied by Jeremy Blaustein the translator. The game would have sounded considerably more like ''[=MGS2=]'' had he not intervened. In an interview, he spoke about constantly fighting his bosses to make the script more enjoyable to American gamers. He ended up [[GettingCrapPasttheRadar making so many changes without them knowing it]] that when Kojima went back over the script for Integral, he ended up firing Blaustein for editing the script so heavily.

** This troper cannot recall ''any'' added Norse references in the translation aside from renaming the [[TheGrimReaper Reapers to Haljas]]. In fact the game was an odd case where most of the colorful speech was the result of direct translations, miraculously still working in English. If anything it ended up toned down.

** Another example is Omega: It's mentioned that every species calls it by a name that reflects their cultural attitude towards the place: the asari name for it translates as "[[{{Mordor}} the heart of evil]]", the salarian name as "[[CityofSpies the place of secrets", the turian name as "[[WretchedHive the world without law]]", and the krogan name it as the "[[WorldOfBadass land of opportunity]]".

** Another example is Omega station: it's mentioned that obviously other species don't call it that, but whatever they do call it, the connotations of finality and doom are retained across all languages.

* ''{{Strider}}'': Urobolos is an {{Engrish}}ification of Ouroboros.
* ''{{Ys}} Book I and II'' for the TurboGrafx16 did this with many of the character's names, eg Rea/Leah=>Lair, Dogi=>Colin, Raba=>Rasta, Dalk Fukt=>Dark Fact(obviously a {{Bowdlerization}}), Banoa=>Berniece, Gort=>Dekka, Roo=>Quay, Zava/Zaba=>Yetai. Even worse, in the MasterSystem version of ''Ys 1'', Adol's name was changed to Aron, and Dark Fact to Dulk Dekt (although most of the other names were unchanged), and in the TG16 port of ''Wanderers from Ys'', they changed the BigBad's name from Galbalan/Galvaran to Demonicus.

*** [[FridgeBrillaince California has a grand total of three Japantowns and contains a large community of Asian Americans]]. Kurain villaige could be the AceAttorney [[ThemeParkVersion versions]] of the ones in the San Fransisco or San Jose. As for the Steel Samurai, it could be possible that Steel Samurai is being filmed a la PowerRangers.And the courts are given a VoodooShark explanation but gamers pass it off as RuleOfFun.

** One of the social links is related to playing an MMO. In the Japanese version, the MMO was based off the original two ''Megami Tensei'' games for the Famicom, which were never released outside Japan. In the English version, all of these references were changed to refer to the earlier ''Persona'' games, all but one of which were released in America.

*** To this day, Kefka is the definitive argument for {{Woolseyism}}. Anybody who played the Japanese original knew the unfortunate truth that he really was [[WhatAnIdiot just kind of a moron]]. The new lines made the otherwise lame nemesis a [[BreakoutCharacter breakout villain]], painting his ascension as less of an AssPull and more due to his being a MagnificentBastard all along. Fans are convinced Kefka is a mad genius whose work and planning raised him from humble origins to the status of God, unlike those [[{{Bishounen}} poorly written, pretty FF villains]]. This does, however, skirt DracoInLeatherPants territory and [[GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff confuse the Japanese.]]

* ''FinalFantasyV Advance'' has a fairly ridiculous English translation, but probably intentionally so, with things such as Gilgamesh saying [[ThePrincessBride "Inconceivable!"]] after being defeated, or Bartz commenting that a defeated enemy crab has been served.

* ''CaveStory'': It's probably too early to declare either of translation objectively better, but there is a vocal portion of the fanbase that prefers AGTP's FanTranslation over the more literal translation from Nicalis (which had StudioPixel's approval) for the Wiiware version. In particular, AGTP's translation of Balrog's BattleCry ("Doryaaaaaaa!") as "Huzzah!" gained [[MemeticMutation memetic]] status; Nicalis' translation of the line as "Oh yeah!" drew cries of TheyChangedItNowItSucks.

* In ''{{Gradius}} IV'', the series' name is pronounced "grad-ius", but in ''V'', it's pronounced "gray-dius", as most fans pronounce it. The title itself is a woolseyism of "gladius".

** Many sources refer to the GiantSpider boss as "Club", a mistransliteration of "Crab" Doesn't look like a GiantEnemyCrab, though.

** On the other hand, the translators' ambitions to disguise the distinctly japanese setting as "Los Angeles" were doomed from the very beginning and became especially balant with Kurain village, which is about as japanese as you can get. Obviously japanese live-action shows like the [[PowerRangers Steel Samurai]] franchise and the existence of a japanese war-veteran as a wittness are just the icing on the cake: In fact, even the juristic system in the games resembles the japanese law a whole lot more than the american and thus causes a lot of need for the MST3KMantra for everyone who knows anything about law. Fandom eventually started refering to the setting as [[FanNickname "Japanifornia"]] because of this.
