Misuse. That's for when children within the same continuity suddenly age even though no-one else has.

* SoapOperaRapidAgingSyndrome: James and the Troublesome Trucks, while still notably immature, are now 'adults' and twice the height of Thomas. They also speak with deeper voices.

Character reactions are no longer applied to this trope.

*** Gordon is reluctant to trust Thomas to deliver fragile objects such as eggs, bringing up his [[ContinuityNod numerous failures]] from previous episodes and even [[EveryoneHasStandards Percy, who usually is the easiest to forgive Thomas' mistakes]] agrees with him. This deconstructs the AesopAmnesia trope that the show had been playing straight until then. Zigzagged, because Gordon still sends Thomas to deliver the ingredients anyway, but sends Percy along, not trusting Thomas alone. In real life, when you repeatedly make mistakes, people aren't always going to trust you alone.
*** After losing many ingredients, Percy says "[[IncrediblyLamePun Let's get cracking!]]" Thomas, [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness who usually makes those kinds of jokes himself]], [[DeathGlare simply glares at Percy and raises one eyebrow]]. As said above, having just been scolded by Gordon and Percy for his mistakes, it makes sense that Thomas would be taking this delivery seriously, and having just lost some ingredients, [[DudeNotFunny it makes sense that he's not in the mood for jokes]].

* AluminumChristmasTrees: With how often the show takes scientific liberties with the engines, the few times the show has correct writing[[note]]no, not AccidentallyCorrectWriting[[/note]] can be surprising or believed to be fantastical.
** In "Sandy's Sandy Delivery", Carly builds extra tracks going up a hill, calling it a "switchback track". Though it works a little differently in real life, [[http://www.azatrax.com/switchback-railway.html those kinds of tracks exist]].
** In "The Paint Problem", Thomas drives through Crumble Canyon and gets his paint scratched. [[https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2019-10-09/what-makes-the-santa-ana-winds-blow Canyon winds can get pretty strong in real life, up to 100 miles per hour]], and we saw Thomas being pelted with rocks and other objects, which can do a number on a paint job. Thomas was lucky that being scratched was the worst thing that happened to him.
** In "A New View for Thomas", Harold and Thomas say "Wilco" to each other, the former explaining that it means "will comply". [[https://www.collinsdictionary.com/us/dictionary/english/wilco In radio communication, that is true.]]
** A non-episode-specific example is in Ashima's name, which both in the reboot and real life is pronounced by stressing the ''first'' syllable, rather than the second as in the original series.

On the other hand, however, nearly every other locomotive character brought over from the original series (barring Diesel and Kenji) is steam powered.

You see, that's kind of part of the point. Dinosaur skeletons are very complex. They had no paleontologists with them, and Sandy only knew how to stick it together. I guess this sort of doubles as a Hard Truth Aesop - being very interested in something doesn't mean you can perform tasks that are meant for qualified professionals

*** After the engines forget what order they delivered the dinosaur bones in, Diesel and Kana get the idea to go back to where the bones were dug from, take a mental picture, and then tell Sandy. It doesn't help much. If you're not a paleontologist, much less someone who has trouble pronouncing that word, a mental picture isn't really going to help you assemble a dinosaur skeleton. [[note]]Although, with the engines being interested in dinosaurs, NOBODY should've been able to mess up how it looked.[[/note]]

* AdaptationalPersonalityChange: The tank engine and tender engine age representation is more exaggerated here. The tank engines are much more childlike and hyperactive - even more mature ones like Nia seem more rambunctious. By contrast the tender engines often take the role of {{Reasonable Authority Figure}}s in place of Sir Topham Hatt (or the Fat Controller in the UK). Gordon in particular is far more wise and reasonable with only a smidgeon of his pompous GrumpyOldMan persona.

** In "Thomas and Percy's Eggsellent Adventure", Thomas and Percy are confused as to why the competition is called a "bake-off" and not a "bake-in". It feels like a throwaway comment until [[spoiler: James and Sir Topham Hatt notice that Thomas and Percy have lost a lot of ingredients and there's not enough left for the bake-off, so the "bake-in" comment becomes relevant again; rather than have a competition, they all make one big cake. * AdaptationalLocationChange: Played with. The show is still set in the Island of Sodor as was the case in the original books and TV series. However, whereas Sodor in the former two was a British setting in-between Great Britain and the Isle of Man (though it tends to [[DependingOnTheWriter vary in the original show]]), Sodor in this show is portrayed as a generic setting with no real ties to Britain.

In the episode Overnight Stop, there is reference to the British town of Wayland, however, this is most likely a coincidence as the producer has said that it was named after his hometown and made to sound far away.

* FanHater: ''All Engines Go'' was received with severe backlash from fans upon reveal. Although many would eventually accept the series for what it was, and simply react the polite way, others, more specifically certain purists, were not so obliging, and digitally and verbally attacked ANYONE they hear actually enjoyed the series. As you can probably tell, this saw them losing the respect of those more restrained, and they spoke out against this kind of behavior.
