* CreateYourOwnVillain: In the spin-off. After Pöysti ignored a minor crime on one of Helsinki's most peaceful suburbs (Somebody broke a streetlight), the man who reported the crime formed a group of vigilantes who beat up anybody who breaks their rules around the neighbourhood. Also doubles as DisproportionateRetribution as the punisheable offences include taking too large furniture to the trash.

The series' main character is Inspector Kyösti Pöysti, a [[UnsympatheticComedyProtagonist highly self-centered, dysfunctional individual]] who is [[BunnyEarsLawyer always sucking on a pacifier]] for unknown reasons. His unruly behaviour and unconventional methods of arresting people are often a source of ire for his boss, Rauno Repomies, an elderly police captain bordering on senility. Pöysti's colleagues include his former Police Academy classmate [[OnlySaneMan Neponen]], a manly policewoman Helga who has anger management issues, and Desk Sergeant Pekka Routalempi, a dull little man who finds every little mundane thing "fascinating". Annoying TV presenter Juhani Kontiovaara also keeps butting in Pöysti's business, when in search of cheap thrills and audience hooks.

->''"Typical Finnish crime lacks premeditation, the motives behind it are petty at best and it's usually simply an awkward experience for both the victim and the perpetrator. The job of the police is to pick up the perps at home, insult them until they break down in tears, gradually become better people, and stop screwing up their lives."''

* StagParty: One episode revolves around Neponen renewing his wedding vows, which naturally involves Pöysti having to arrange one for him with three of his friends. They have plenty of experience for throwing such parties and know that while the generic "get drunk, do something stupid and risky that ends in a brawl" party has been done over and over again. It's what the party will ultimately devolve into anyway, as better and more unique ideas are ridiculously expensive and all the cheaper ones aren't worth doing.

* RichInDollarsPoorInSense: One of the characters in the newer episodes is revealed to be this, He's been lacking in common sense for his entire life. Lucking out in creating a hugely successful iPhone app and striking it rich just made him worse, He has a handlebar mustache and wears a bowler hat with a track suit, has a pet swan in his ball pit. His sister has also been conditioned into being able to interpret his fragmented 2-word sentences [[TranslationYes into much longer wholly legible ones]].

* PlacebotinumEffect: A reverse version of this takes place in an episode where all the liquor stores in Finland end up being closed due to the threat of poisoned booze. A researcher theorizes that the people of Finland are so used to being drunk on Friday nights that they'll attain a state resembling drunkenness at that time even if they haven't drunk anything at all. Not even the researcher himself believes in it, but miraculously enough, it actually does happen at a critical moment. Unfortunately the effect only lasts for a few minutes before everyone becomes instantly wearing off.

* DrugsAreBad: The main theme for one of the new episodes that culminates in each character unsuccessfully lecturing a classroom about them. Pöysti fails because he promotes alcohol as a better option for escapism. Repomies fails because he gets pissed off at the students throwing wads of paper at him, causing him to start swearing and throwing a whiteboard eraser back at one of them. Helga fauks because she instantly calls a female student a slut after she asks her the generic [[MissConception "can you get pregnant from kissing" question]]. [[IdiotBall Neponen is never even considered for the task]] because "he supports Pöysti and is suspicious". Routalempi accidentally manages to save the day by constantly getting distracted by modern school equipment while lecturing. His behavior causes the entire class to think he's an ex-junkie and they [[ScareEmStraight sign up for anti-drugs groups in fear of becoming like him]].

* {{Flanderization}}: Both Pöysti and Repomies. In first season, despite their respective faults, both at least try to be competent police officers. Since then, Pöysti has became more self absorbed {{jerkass}} who seems to dislike his own work, whilst Repomies has gone full {{cloud cuckoo lander}}. Interestingly, most of the side characters (especially Routalempi who started as one note joke character) have gone to the opposite direction.
