* CaughtByArrogance: Beatrix boasts about killing her father, taking the throne from her sister, and spreading false information about dragons, as while as pushing LaRow to drain dragons even harder. All of this is caught on tape and broadcast to the kingdom.

** Zane Day, where the people supposedly act like, dress like and eat like Zane. Even a contest for people that would look like Zane.

* ShamedByAMob: Sora, going by 'Ana' at them time, was shamed upon by everyone in Imperium, even her own parents, for her refusal to use her intelligence to work for Dr. [=LaRow=] to hunt dragons with her invention.

** In "We Are Dragons", Kai and Wyldfyre destroy the wrong place. What was it? Cue a Claw of Imperium.

* GarbageHideout: In "I Will Be the Danger", Riyu tries to hide in the dumpster he and Arin landed in while the former tries to stop Percival and the Imperium Teenage Protection Force from finding him, only to fail.

* KarmaHoudini: [[spoiler:While Beatrix is lost in a [=MergeQuake=] rift at the end of Season 1, Rapton in talks among others about making a council, and Dorama is taken into custody, Ras escapes from his prison cell and makes an alliance with Jordana, helping her escape Imperium. There's also no confirmation on what became of Dr. [=LaRow=].]]

* TrashLanding: Having taken out an Imperium drone midair, Arin and Riyu fall into a dumpster in "I Will Be the Danger".

** Wyldfire did this to a sacred statue of the neighboring Lava-tides as a prank. It's one of many things on their list of grievances against her.
* NegativeSpaceWedgie: Merge-Quakes, despite the name, involve massive tears in reality opening up which can only be sealed by elemental powers, because the worlds aren't fully holding together. And they're getting worse.

* IKnowYourTrueName: Dr. [=LaRow=] and Jordana are one of the few Imperians who know Sora's real name is Ana, who changed it after running away from Imperium.

* AdaptationalHeroism: The Greenbone Warriors were the antagonists of the second wave of the out-of-continuity ''Ninjago: Core'' toyline, and portrayed as such in supplementary materials related to it. In ''Dragons Rising'', a number of them are scattered among the populace (with one of them being a racer in the first episode), and their sole antagonistic appearance in Season 1 in "Wyldly Inappropriate" is due to Wyldfyre aggravating them by stealing their jewels as a prank, and even almost let Kai and Wyldfyre go before the latter pranks them again.

* CanonImmigrant: Some elements from ''Ninjago Core'', an out-of-continuity toyline, show up in this series, such as the various EVO Dragons, and the Greenbone Warriors are shown to be part of the general populace after the Merge.

* CanonImmigrant: A Bone Guard, from the out-of-continuity ''Ninjago Core'' line, appears in the first, twelfth, thirteenth and twentieth episodes.

* ApatheticCitizens: The population of Imperium is slated as such due to their dismissal of how dragons are used to power their city; Sora became the exception after seeing it for herself.

* {{Technopath}}: Sora appears to have this ability, being capable of assembling mechas telekinetically, with old machine parts. Turns out it’s due to Riyu granting her this power.

* MustacheVandalism: A flashback shows Jordana doodling on Ana's face of her family photo in frustration for losing the science fair while learning she's absent from class.
