* AnAesop: Seeking revenge is bad.

The film had a troubled development history. [[WhatCouldHaveBeen It had started life as a part of the second set of the Superstars 10]], but it didn't actually get made until after the Turner buyout. The film is seen as an attempt to reboot the franchise after ''WesternAnimation/TheNewAdventuresOfJonnyQuest'', but it only recieved one follow-up: ''WesternAnimation/JonnyQuestVersusTheCyberInsects''. ''[[WesternAnimation/JonnyQuestTheRealAdventures Real Adventures]]'' ignores the events of the movies and ''The New Adventures''.

* CallingTheOldManOut: Jesse when she learns [[spoiler:her mother lied to her about who her father was and didn't say anything until Race's life was in danger]].

* DisappearedDad: [[spoiler:Race is revealed to be one to Jesse since her mother was pregnant with her. He never learned the truth until the climax of the movie.]]

* EvilDetectingDog: Bandit is the one who alerts Jesse to the presence of a Replicant about to enter the hotel room Jonny and Hadji are sharing with Race below.

* FedToTheBeast: The Replicants try to kill Jonny and Jesse by dumping them into a SharkPool at the desalination plant.

* FriendlyPlayfulDolphin: A couple assist Jonny and Hadji in Peru. Later, two more at the Australian desalination plant save Jonny and Jesse from a shark the Replicants try to feed them to, and afterwards also knock Zin down when he's holding Dr. Quest hostage [[spoiler:and ultimately aid Jonny in escaping the exploding building through an underwater tunnel]].

* LukeYouAreMyFather: [[spoiler:Jesse shouts “Dad!” to Race near the climax of the movie, surprising the latter.]]

* BroadStrokes: As a whole this new origin is it taking from the original show what it needed.

* ShortLivedAerialEscaped: Zin's clone attempts to leave the erupting volcano in a helicopter, only for a huge upheaval of molten lava to engulf the aircraft, killing them both.

* LovesOnlyGold: Zin wants to use UsefulNotes/{{Alchemy}} to turn lead into gold.

Zin's henchmen kidnap Benton and Rachel, and Jonny and Hadji along with Race stage a rescue, however Rachel dies when she and Zin fall into molten lava. Later, a girl named Jessie Devlon arrives, insisting that her father, scientist Vincent Devlon, is missing. She wants the Quests help in locating him, and despite Benton's urges, Jonny burns for vengeance.

* WhamLine: When [[spoiler:Devlon]] looks surprised and says [[spoiler:he is childless]], and then when Jade actually reveals [[spoiler:that Jessie is ''her'' and ''Race's'' daughter from their brief marriage]]. And again later during the climax when Jessie calls [[spoiler:Race]] [["Dad!"]] while throwing him a gun.
