* BigBrotherInstinct: For as much as Adam messes with Sharon, it's clear he does love her and looks out for her. An early example occurs in The Makeover, when he finds out Sharon had a crush on his leech classmate and sorta-friend, Caleb. He's startled to hear this, and despite being angry at her and pulling a ItsProbablyNothing on her earlier, he immediately tries to warn her away from him by pointing out his leech tendencies and his behavior with girls. It came too late, unfortunately, but the intent was there.

Added DiffLines:

* ForeignLanguageTirade: In "The Makeover," Maria starts shouting at Sharon in both Italian and Chinese. Sharon's narration comments on it.
--> '''Sharon''': I knew things were bad. Whenever Maria started mixing the language of her ancestral heritage, it always meant the same thing: you are in her bad books, ''big time.''

Additionally, ''Braceface'' often tackled or featured issues that many kids' shows of the time considered taboo; underage drinking and smoking, eating disorders, and ACupAngst were among the topics that appeared in the series at one point or another. It was even the first kids' cartoon to discuss the topic of periods, and one episode even had Sharon helping a gay friend find a boyfriend, with the character's sexuality not being that big of a deal. Unsurprisingly, a number of these episodes were banned from American television.

Although the series rarely receives credit for it these days, ''Braceface'' was a pioneer of children's television in many ways. It was one of the very few SliceOfLife cartoons to avert NegativeContinuity back then. For instance, Sharon became a vegetarian and animal rights activist early on in the series run and remained so for the rest of the show; she also graduated middle school and entered ninth grade at the beginning of the second season.

Cool Loser TRS cleanup, has been renamed to Unconvincingly Unpopular Character and is a YMMV audience reaction.

* CoolLoser: Brock (at least at the start) and to a lesser extent, Sharon. Justified in Sharon's case, since Nina was out to get her, and probably turned the school against her.

''Braceface'' is an animated CanadianSeries from Creator/{{Nelvana}} that was created by Melissa Clark (previously a writer for ''WesternAnimation/RoliePolieOlie'') for Creator/{{Teletoon}}. The show follows the exploits of Sharon Spitz (voiced in the first two seasons by Creator/AliciaSilverstone, who was also an executive producer on the show), an average eighth grader (later ninth grader when she starts high school) who at the start of the series is forced to get braces for her teeth. Typical of teenage life, she worries about how this will affect her usual status amongst her peers as she goes through her daily life.

The show, when first advertised, put much emphasis on Sharon's braces, as they were affected during a lightning storm while being fitted onto her mouth. Every now and then they would occasionally affect the environment around her (lockers, water fountains, radios, etc). As the show went on, this focus was dropped for the usual slice of life and "teenage issues" stories (though it does occasionally pop up).
