* GiftForAnOutgrownInterest: PlayedWith in "Family Therapy". Macie Lightfoot's parents are both {{workaholic}} psychologists who manage to forget their own daughter's 13th birthday. When they realize this, they try to make up for it by throwing a party for her, but it seems more suited to a small child, featuring a clown, balloon animals, and Macie dressed in a pink princess dress. Ginger and Dodie try to stop it and save Macie the embarrassment--but she isn't embarrassed at all. She loves the theme, seeing it as an opportunity to make up for missed birthday opportunities of the past, and loves the attention she's getting.

Removed per cleanup thread.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome:
** In "Driven to Extremes" after dealing with a sadist substitute teacher, Ginger gets fed up and verbally stands up to her. This just results in Ginger being sent to detention, thus making the episode a DownerEnding. This is due to Ginger's actions to the teacher being viewed as insubordination and disrespect to the authority (whether the student is right or wrong).
** The girls' school pictures ''intentionally'' [[StylisticSuck look hideous]]. They don't know ''how'' to apply makeup!

* AnAesop:
** The episode "Stuff Will Kill You" shows Ginger developing an addiction to coffee. Lois had previously gotten away with her ParentalHypocrisy about makeup and leg-shaving, but she is called out on her ''own'' dependency on coffee (which, for a nurse, is ''very'' TruthInTelevision) for hypocrisy as well as not setting a very good example for Ginger.
** "Ms. Foutley's Boys": You shouldn't be in a relationship just for the sake of it. There's absolutely nothing wrong with being single, and if you're going to date then it should be with someone you love. Ginger tries to force her mother Lois to date Buzz because she's afraid of her mother being alone forever despite how much she finds Buzz and his sons a headache to deal with. And when Lois does eventually remarry, it's after a full season of dating and making sure that Dave is the right man for her.

Alfred J Kwak, Jim Knopf, Sky Dancers; it's certainly not a first.

It was among the Creator/{{Nickelodeon}} cartoons that were ahead of their time, featuring (relatively) realistic situations and teenage issues which soon set a mark for the [[Franchise/{{Degrassi}} future]] [[Series/SouthOfNowhere titles]] to come in the Creator/{{TeenNick}} time slot. The most notable among the show pointed out that it didn't follow the LimitedWardrobe trope compared to the other Nick titles. It is also one of the first shows, not just on Nickelodeon, but perhaps in all of children's entertainment, to portray interracial romance in a serious (and positive) light.

** Courtney is a rare AlphaBitch (well, more like LovableAlphaBitch) example. She is extremely sheltered due to her wealthy upbringing and hadn't even seen a vacuum prior to "Carl and Maude". Her naïvety causes her attempts to communicate with and befriend less wealthy kids to be awkward and uncomfortable, to say the least.

Cool Loser TRS cleanup, has been renamed to Unconvincingly Unpopular Character and is a YMMV audience reaction.

* CoolLoser: Ginger as well as her friends Macie and Darren are great people, but not as popular or "successful" at Lucky Jr. High. Subverted with Dodie--she desperately wants to be part of the "in crowd", but the popular kids can sense her wannabe attitude a mile away.

* SlumberPartyPloy: Carl and Hoodsey lie to their parents that they are staying over each others' houses in order to tag along on the junior high field trip to the mountains for a skiing trip. However, Joanne later calls Lois to remind Hoodsey to take his nasal medicine before going to sleep. Lois is visibly confused since Hoodsey is supposed to be there with Carl until Joanne reveals that she was told that they are sleeping over at her house, thereby giving away to Lois that she had been lied to.

* PoorCommunicationKills: Carl and Hoodsey's arc in ''The Summer of Camp Caprice'' could have been ''completely'' averted had Milton simply told Carl and Hoodsey "I have a dog, I want you to clean up after her". He could have simply said "I'm keeping her safe from the petnapper" and ''still'' not have been lying to the boys. Making this even worse is the fact that she is kept in the basement. Sure, she is potty trained, but shouldn't Milton have at least ''told'' them to check up on her maybe once or twice in the day to make sure she's alright, or let her out and clean up after her?

** In "Piece of My Heart", Winston hand-delivers an invitation to the school dance from Courtney to "Mr. Patterson". Darren accepts it and assumes it's for him (even though she barely knows him). Ginger finds out at school that Courtney actually meant to ask his older brother, Will, but doesn't tell her that Darren thinks it's him. When she tries to tell Darren about the mix-up, he accuses her of lying out of jealousy (as he was going to go with Ginger if neither of them got dates). Ginger tries to explain, but Darren doesn't let her finish her sentence. As he storms off, Ginger is speechless (even though she had plenty of time to say "Courtney asked Will to the dance, not you." in the time it took for Darren to climb down from her window). Ginger desperately asks Will himself to give him the news before he's humiliated at the dance (and Will wasn't even interested in attending a junior high school dance anyway).

This or these examples of Surprisingly Realistic Outcome seem to violate at least one of these rules, which disqualifies them: No character reactions (characters get angry, don't forgive, don't change their personality instantly, etc.); Too fantastical (depends on the properties of magic, powers, sci-fi tech, monsters, etc.); Not surprising (a character was warned about the outcome, it's used to provide Karma or An Aesop, or it simply follows normal conventions for this genre or medium); Plot happens (the example only describes an event, but not why audiences would expect a different, unrealistic outcome); Not an outcome (a character just explains why something wouldn't work as expected, or something is just an innate aspect of the setting or character that has a logical reason for being present); More of a Deconstruction (the event has major, lasting effects on the plot, make something more realistic, but not completely realistic, or a parody/fanwork applies a more realistic outcome to the events of a different work. Check the cleanup thread if you have any disagreement with this removal.

** In the episode "Fast Reputation," Carl and Hoodsey's food stand is shut down permanently due to the stand violating the health department standards.
** In "The Right Stuff," two high school girls from Macie and Courtney's French class try embarrassing Courtney by removing her bikini top at a pool party that Macie's throwing (albeit very reluctantly). They succeed, but now everyone hates them for not only ruining the party but also for pulling such a mean prank on a middle school student. Also, Macie and her friends, Ginger and Dodie, manage to save Courtney before anyone can see anything.

When Hoodsey points out there are other whales probably suffering in that same habitat, [[ItMakesSenseInContext Carl decides to help by flushing vegetables he made down the school's toilet to revitalize the habitat.]] The vegetables just end up clogging (and then rupturing) the school's septic tank.
