The year is 360 AD. After 12 years of training at the Academy of Tara, Bryan the aspiring bard is finally given his first assignment: he is to play music for the inhabitants of the sleepy little fishing village of Oi, where nobody has heard music in decades. He looks forward to an easy life of [[SexDrugsAndRockAndRoll Sex, Mead and Bardic Music]] where nothing could possibly upset his life of leisure-- only for that fantasy to be violently shaken from him the moment he steps foot in the village.

* OhMyGods: The residents of Oi are quite fond of swearing by Lugh. Other deities, like Crom Cruach are also mentioned.
* MagicMushroom: Star Seal is quite fond of using them, as is Servius to a lesser degree.
* {{Oireland}} The series takes place in a fictionalised version of Ireland in the Iron Age.
* PropheciesRhymeAllTheTime: {{Averted}} and {{Discussed}}. Servius hears a prophecy from an apparition of his sister Artemesia which doesn't rhyme, which he is immediately skeptical of.

--> '''Artemesia:''' It doesn't have to rhyme to be true!
* {{Selkie}}: Oi was founded by a woman who was seduced by a male selkie, and her three slkie children. In the present, Rhiannon herself is one.
* SpiritualSuccessor: To {{ComicBook/Asterix}}. Like ''Asterix'', ''OI!'' is also an anachronistic comedy set in a Celtic society at the time of the Roman Empire.
