* EpicFail: Early in the webcomic, Jared crashes his motorcycle while trying to get a girl off screen to notice him, prompting Vikki to joke that he wiped out in front of every girl in town (To add insult to injury, the off screen girl tells Jared he sucks, though Jared is happy she noticed him).

* HopeSpot: During the "Further Preparations" arc it looks as though the main antagonists, Kaminovo and Kyominara, are about to sacrifice Jared to a Precursor and win, with none of the other bound hero's being able to do anything to stop the ritual. Out of nowhere, [[spoiler: Tim, a Gholem who was an ally to the two main characters and taught Vikki how to do magic, shows up and pulls a BigDamnHeros move. He manages to save Jared from being impaled and unbinds Vikki and Isa.]] Vikki then manages to free Jared from the alter amid the chaos and tries to use a spell that Tim taught her to put a permanent stop to the threat. [[spoiler: However, it's soon revealed that Tim was working with the two demons and had intentionally mislead Vikki into casting a resurrection spell, [[FromBadToWorse unleashing a menacing monster into the world with Vikki herself serving as the unwilling lifeform fueling it.]]]]

* MakeItLookLikeAnAccident: While in the hospital, Jared tries to get Vikki to help him go through with a plan that involves throwing Prince John (who has ended up becoming his roommate and has been giving him a lot of his usual grief) out a twelfth story window. Vikki and another doctor dismiss it with a bit of humor.

* SuprisinglyRealisticOutcome:

* WorstNewsJudgementEver: Subverted. After the conclusion to the terrorist crisis at the Ferrington Hospital, the local news crew covering the event learns they didn't air the story on their station as intended. Instead, they aired a Tori Spelling expy video on their network, thanks to a new interns incompetence.

''Boomer Express'' is a humorous FurryComic that focuses on the adventures of two young adult kangaroos and their encounters with various characters, both magical and mundane.

* FurryComic: All the main characters seen thus far (as well as almost everyone else ranging from secondary to background characters) are anthro animals.

* FromBadToWorse: At one point during the "Royal Pains" arc in Book 1, Vikki and Isa walk in on Prince John, who is trying to kill Jared so he can finally get the dragon for himself. Isa blasts the prince with a spell and knocks him out cold, moments before the guards come in and see the aftermath of what happen. The three kangaroos then find themselves in the dungeons for attacking a member of the royal family thanks to a poor offscreen explanation by Jared, which is then followed by them escaping and pursued into a nearby forest.

** Not too long after the example listed above, Vikki and Isa walk in on Prince John, who is still trying to kill Jared so he can finally get the dragon for himself. Seeing her friend in danger, Isa blasts the prince with a spell and knocks him out cold. After the guards come in and see the aftermath of what happen, the three kangaroos find themselves in the dungeons for attacking a member of the royal family (with a poor offscreen explanation by Jared not helping their case).

** After Jared ends up in the hospital with several severe injuries [[spoiler: thanks to Dr. Von Harris's growing ray experiment gone completely wrong]] his parents show up for the first time onscreen. Rather than show concern for their sons state of well being, the duo not so subtly berate Jared for not following through their high expectations they'd set in life for him. [[spoiler: It's later averted since Kaminovo (one of the main antagonists) was really posing as Jared's father in an attempt to kidnap the kangaroo, with Jared's mother forced to go along with it, else something terrible will befall the real Mr. Knight (though based on Jared's reaction, it's not that much of a stretch that his parents would've acted the same if they visited without any demons being involved).]]

** While in the Gholems land Vikki is told that she will learn magic, prompting her to fantasize the place as an exotic castle. Isa, the Gholem accompanying her, then reveals that due to many years of budget cuts on education all that is available for her to use is a rundown classroom.
** When Jared, Vikki and Isa first arrive in Pah'Slute, Jared is in his larger dragon size (i.e. possibly ten times bigger than normal). The first person who sees him (being mostly shown off-screen) freaks out and flees after getting a good look at him.
** In one scene where Prince John is "training" Jared on how to use a sword in a one-on-one fight, Jared grabs a sword from a wall and tries to use it to fight back, only for the weapon to easily break as it's revealed to have been a decorative display instead of the real thing.

** How the kangaroos escape their dungeon cell (Jared partially turning into his dragon form and slamming the cell door aside) along with a brief chaotic confrontation with Kaminovo ends up causing a lot of noise. This in turn summons every castle guard close by, forcing the hero's to make a hasty exit.

** In one scene, Vikki shows up at a hospital with Jared injured [[spoiler: and wrapped in spider webbing following an accident at Dr. Von Harris's mansion. Due to the details of the story sounding so absurd in a mostly mundane world (with said story involving a mad scientist trying to use a twinkie powered growing ray to return his tiny height to normal and a giant spider servant),]] none of the medics outside start buying Vikki's explanation as to how her friend got hurt, though they still go on ahead and get Jared the treatment he needs.
*** Similarly, after [[spoiler: Ryan Bellcamp (an anthro otter college student introduced in book two) swallows the dragon orb in an ice cream parlor and starts to transform much faster than Jared did,]] a jump cut shows his friend Michael talking to a police officer as to what happened. The cop questions why he should believe the out of nowhere ending to the story where [[spoiler: Ryan turned into some sort of monster (before Michael points out the hole Ryan made in the roof when he flew away).]]

** Early Ashton, an anthro 70 foot tall giant rabbit introduced in book two, seems eager to give Vikki some not too subtle death threats when the duo first meet in the woods and darkly implies with glee that she remained undiscovered due to carrying out said threats on others who ran into her. [[spoiler: It's later revealed that some of the people who "disappeared" in her section of the forest were escaping unpleasant situations (like a pair of siblings trying to run away from their pursuing homicidal father), and that [[PetTheDog Early helped them survive by intervening and secretly dropping them off several states away, with her "victims" then staying under the radar from that moment on.]]]]

* ButtMonkey: Out of all the kangaroos (and other species) in the comic, Jared is the most likely to have a joke play out at his expense, both in the comics cannon and in the fan art section.

** While she is actually a demon, Kyominara has her moments of acting sly as a fox (the species she mostly resembles).

When Tiamat (the first Precursor in the comic) starts smashing through Pah`Slute, one of King Montifort`s knights develops a crush on the female Kaiju and asks another knight if the creature is single. After Jared defeats Tiamat in the fights climax, the knight is seen walking away, visibly bummed out that his crush got obliterated.

* ArtisticLicenseBiology: Jared is shown eating corned beef various times throughout the comic or craving it, despite the fact that kangaroos are herbivores. Jared`s parents [[spoiler: or to be more accurate, just Jared`s mother]] also mention having a filet mignon dinner ready for them at home during one point in the comic.

* BadassLongcoat: [[spoiler: Gary Dill, Jared and Vikki`s boss,]] wears one in book two.
* BaitAndSwitch: Early in the comic, Jared and Vikki stop by at a drive-thru for some fast food. At first, it looks as though the duo are ordering at McDonald`s (due to the M arch and the millions served sign). However, it`s revealed to the audience and Vikki that the place is really McDonegal`s, a place that sells the best Irish fast food in town (according to Jared).

* BerserkButton: Jared has two: Don`t go making fun of McDonegals (his favorite Irish fast food restaurant), and don`t eat anything from his secret corned beef stash in his apartment.

* BoundAndGagged: Only the former half of the trope is played out on the group of hero`s during the "Preparing the Ceremony Arc". After he keeps shouting and throwing a tantrum however, Prince John has the full trope play out on him, courtesy of an annoyed Kyominara.

* CasanovaWannabe: Jared`s character bio mentions that he tries to act like a hotshot to impress the ladies, but it often doesn`t work out as intended. Adam Barrett, the kangaroo`s LARPer friend, also has traces of this, as seen during some of his scenes with Vikki.
* CassandraTruth: When Vikki gets to the hospital with Jared severely injured and bound in spider webbing, a medic asks what happened. Vikki then starts to give an abridged version of [[spoiler: the events at Dr. Von Harris`s mansion, involving a mad scientist experiment gone wrong and a giant spider]], [[LampshadeHanging before realizing that the story, while accurate, would be too outrageous for anyone else to believe]] (with the medics outside starting to think they`re being set up for a joke).

* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Despite the fact that he`s the comics main ButtMonkey, Jared ends up proving he can kick ass and save the day in epic fashion when it really matters, as shown in his battle with the Precursor Tiamat during book one.
* DamselInDistress: This trope is directly [[http://www.boomerexpress.com/2010/05/05/611-the-damsel/ stated word for word by Gary towards Mrs. Knight (Jared`s mom)]] after getting in the middle of a MistakenForTerrorist situation.

* DudeNotFunny: Vikki`s reaction to Jared`s joke of [[spoiler: pretending to run into something dangerous when he enters Dr. Von Harris`s ominous, abandoned looking mansion alone.]]

* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Prince John and his cruel nature are immediately brought up in his introduction scene. When Vikki, Isa and Jared (who has the dragon spirit inside him) arrive in his throne room, the Prince impatiently asks for his dragon. Then, after it`s explained to him that he can no longer host the creature and is told why someone else has it, Prince John orders Jared to death without a second thought. Isa and Vikki`s shocked and weak objection easily infuriates him, leading the bratty royal to accuse the duo of [[InsaneTrollLogic "treason" and being a part of a conspiracy with Jared that involved stealing his dragon, earning them death sentences as well.]] When a DeusExMachina saves the kangaroo trio, Prince John responds by getting all whinny and mopey.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: After being defeated by Vikki in book two, the Precursor known as Typhonis asks in a confused tone why she chose to stay and risk her life fighting back instead of taking an easy option to flee elsewhere (as Arroyo conjured up a doorway to another world). Vikki`s response (along with a previous comment that she didn`t want to leave millions to die at the hands of the Kaiju creature)[[spoiler: is that a friend of hers did the same heroic act for her and another world earlier.]]

* FateWorseThanDeath: It`s implied that being a soulgem for a precursor monster is one, [[NervousWreck with Vikki and Early`s reactions after being freed making it all the more obvious.]]

After the doctor informs Jared later on that Prince John is discharged and won`t need to share a room with him anymore, the kangaroo is ecstatic. However, the doctor then reveals that the annoying royal will be staying at Jared`s apartment since the hospital somehow got papers that say he`s the kids legal guardian, leaving Jared in a nearly stunned state of speechlessness.]]
* ImStandingRightHere: During one point of the story, Isa and Vicky talk about King Montifort (who they haven`t met at this point), with the former insulting him by labeling him a brat and coward like his son. [[OhCrap Cue the King himself emerging from the library the duo were passing by]], where he harshly yet wittily gives Isa a piece of his mind. [[spoiler: The trope is later averted, as it`s revealed that the King that spoke to Isa wasn`t the real King Montifort but actually Kaminovo posing as him. During her introduction scene, she gives Vikki some not too subtle death threats and enjoys watching her squirm at the mention of other people she made disappear in sadistic glee, but after [[spoiler: she is freed from being a soulgem and returned to normal size, it`s revealed that she used her giant height to help several others who were in need of aid (like some kids escaping their homicidal father in 1978 being one example) before dropping them off a state or two away.]]

* LaserGuidedKarma: In his introduction scene, Prince John [[http://www.boomerexpress.com/2003/03/21/121-angus-to-the-rescue/ orders Jared to be strung up and left for the ravens to pick clean]] alongside Isa and Vikki for [[BlatantLies "stealing" the dragon spirit that was meant to be his.]] Later on in book two, after coming to his world and pushing Jared too far one too many times with his aggressive behavior, Jared leaves the rotten royal stuck atop a flagpole. ** Earlier in the webcomic, Jared brings up an incident where a poodle named Samantha Jenkins was injured and left with amnesia near Dr. Von Harris`s mansion, with a rumor of foul play behind it. While Vikki dismisses it as a stunt gone wrong, Jared lampshades the trope and believes that the explanation is what Dr. Von Harris wants everyone to believe.

* ProductPlacement: Jared delivers a box full of Twinkies to Dr. Von Harris in book two. [[spoiler: It turns out that the doctor needed the one`s with green colored creme to power a growth ray he developed.]]

* UngratefulBastard: Prince John has a fair share of these moments towards Jared, [[SpoiledBrat simply because he`s fully convinced the kangaroo stole the dragon that was meant for him (disregarding the outside circumstances of the "theft" already explained to him).]] The most notable example could be seen in book two, where Jared lets the exiled Prince stay in his apartment despite their past animosity and the fact that Prince John totally wrecked the place earlier. Rather than appreciate Jared`s kindness, Prince John starts to threaten Jared when given some tight but fair rules on how to behave.

* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: Played with. After Jared [[spoiler: is severely injured thanks to Dr. Von Harris`s growth ray experiment gone array and wrapped in spider webbing by Winfred (in an attempt to make his condition more stable)]], two reporters drive by Vikki, who is speeding towards the nearest hospital with Jared in the passenger seat. One of the reporters notices the [[spoiler: kangaroo wrapped like a mummy and mentions it, but the other doesn`t care, as she`s rushing to the sight of the blown up Von Harris mansion to get the news scoop first.]]
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Often averted with all the major and secondary characters [[PutOnABus (even the ones that are not around in book two)]], as the character sheet has a status update for everyone involved in the plot, regarding how much they`ve contributed onscreen thus far.
* WhyCouldntYouBeDifferent: Based on Jared`s reaction to his parents visiting him in the hospital and berating him for not following their high class, snobby lifestyle, it`s pretty obvious he experienced a lot of this trope in his life from them. [[spoiler: Even though Jared`s father was actually Kaminovo in disguise, it`s also safe to assume the real Mr. Knight would`ve reacted the same.]]
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Vikki has a fear of spiders and shows signs of nervousness at the mere mention of them. [[RunningGag The fact that she keeps encountering Winfred (a jumping spider that Dr. Von Harris unintentionally grew and made intelligent) every time she goes near Dr. Von Harris and/or his home probably doesn`t help.]]
