WebVideo/RPGParade

A series of videos released on [=YouTube=] by [[http://www.youtube.com/user/katapicture Katapicture]]. It follows the adventures of a bunch of friends as [[ArcWords they live a story of life... and awesomeness.]]

...Oh, and did we mention, it's an RPG?

Taking the guise of a JRPG, ''RPG Parade'' both uses tropes normally seen in [=RPG=]s and lampshades them. [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUXJwZq5xME&feature=PlayList&p=963A25DE488C6556&index=0 It all starts here]]. Watch, and enjoy!

Unfortunately, as of the present time the series is on indefinite hiatus. It has not been outright stated as being canceled but WordOfGod suggests that it is unlikely to see an ending.
----
!!Party Members:

* [[BareFistedMonk Janman]], the main character of the series. Uses a unique fighting style called 'Betting It All'. His main source of power appears to come from his Hoodie of Wildfire.
* [[TheMario Steel]], who, despite his archetype is NOT the main character. Has a big anger problem.
* [[BlackMagicianGirl Nomi]], whose offensive arsenal is based on food. She appears unable to talk about anything else (because what else is there to talk about, in her view) and has an unusual method of addressing people.
* [[MightyGlacier Whiffler]], the drunken guy. Rarely seen without a bottle of booze.
* [[TheMedic Totchi]], a bard who wishes to find inspiration and make music which would melt the hardest of hearts. [[spoiler: Left Team Parade in Episode 46 to find his own path.]]
* [[TheLancer Gri]], one of Janman's best friends. He has a bit of an attitude, and uses piercing attacks to get by armoured foes.
* [[spoiler: [[CuteBruiser Abi]] and [[FragileSpeedster Ica]]]] always fight as a single unit. Both have an unhealthy obsession with violence.
----
!!This series includes examples of:
* AbortedArc (In the first few episodes, viewers are lead to believe that The Demon, a mysterious fighter that beat Janman so thoroughly that it crushed his fighting spirit, would be a major plot point. However, this seems to be abandoned early on in favor of more focus on the conflict with the Kabuki Kings and the search for Robot.)
* TheAce (The Dragon. No, not that [[TheDragon Dragon]])
* AfterCombatRecovery (With a few, normally plot relative exceptions, the characters fully heal after every battle.)
* TheAlcoholic (Whiffler is never without a bottle in his hand.)
* AlliterativeName (Nomi Mimi Noyu)
* AmbiguouslyBi (Early in the series Totchi grows increasingly infatuated with Janman. However, in one episode he is also shown looking rather perversely through at a female swimsuit magazine, and is known to also be unable to say no to a girl. He becomes even more transparent later, including making a passing comment about his old friend Takumi being "cute", and wanting to "join in" after witnessing an InnocentInnuendo between Janman and Nomi.)
* AnAesop (Many of the filler episodes try to do this. It's parodied just like everything else.)
* ArtShift (The text cut-ins for B.A.A.s, damage indictors, and so forth undergo a drastic change in episode 65.)
* AxCrazy (Ica and later, [[spoiler: Totchi]])
* {{Badass}} (Alot of this, especially for a parody. The special attacks in the "game" are even called B.A.A.s or Bad Ass Attacks.)
* BadassBoast (Quite a few, but Episode 33 deserves special mention. Gri delivers one while getting a particularly brutal beating by a group of Kabuki Thugs. He then gets up from said beating and PROVES it.)
* BerserkButton (Tell Nomi you hate magic, and prepare to lose an arm)
* BigBad (Ryujin)
* BigDamnHeroes
* BigEater (Nomi)
* BloodKnight (Alot, but [[spoiler: Totchi in the Wildfire Hoodie]] deserves special mention.)
* BreakingTheFourthWall
* BunnyEarsLawyer (Pro is a guy with a flair [[LargeHam for the dramatic]] and always seems to have a comb in his hand and in his hair. Nevertheless, he's shown to be quite strong, and a great trainer.
* CatchPhrase
** Gri - "Gaze upon the spectacle before you known only as... perfection!"
** Totchi - "Stylish!"
** Sean - "Hello shunny!"
** Janman - "ONWARDS... to adventure!"
** Pro - "He still can't keep up with me!"
** Whiffler - "To the MOON!" et al.
* TheChessmaster ([[spoiler: Robot]] seems to be subtly manipulating everything, from guiding team parade to giving the Kabuki Kings the runaround to buy them time.
* ClothesMakeTheSuperman (The Wildfire Hoodie seems to be the source of power for the Wildfire Fist style. Janman is significantly weaker without it and when [[spoiler: Totchi wears it, he gains Jan's abilities, despite never having trained to use them.]])
* CloudCuckooLander (Nomi is this. Most of her rationale is based around food and magic to the exclusion of all else.)
* ClusterFBomb (Whiffler's Trash Talk.)
* [[CombinationAttack Combination Attack]] (Some B.A.A's are two moves combined into one.)
* CombatPragmatist (There's quite a few instances of this, but of note is Abi's "Mr. Peanut Butter Fun" B.A.A. and an instance during the fight with [[spoiler: Diva]]. When Whiffler is [[WhatTheHellHero called out]] for a GroinAttack, he invokes this trope in response.)
* ComeAlone (D's letter to Janman invokes this. He realizes it could be a trap, [[IdiotBall but goes alone anyway]].
* CompetitiveBalance
** LightningBruiser (Janman, Gri)
** TheMedic (Totchi)
** JackOfAllStats (Steel)
** SquishyWizard (Nomi)
** MightyGlacier (Whiffler)
** GlassCannon / StoneWall (Abica are an interesting take on these. Ica is the cannon, with her powerful attacks while Abi is the Wall. They're both highly mobile so they don't qualify for a MightyGlacier, and they have comparatively low HP, so they also aren't LightningBruiser status either. Being a dual party member, they're a bit hard to pin.)
* ConfusionFu (Kuya, full stop.)
* CreepyChild (Abi and Ica count as this. They both seem a little ''too'' fond of violence, Ica especially...)
* {{Cutscene}}
* CurseCutShort / GagCensor (Janman does this a few times. The Censor is his fist.)
* DanceBattler (A whole group of them known as The Death Dancers)
* DeathOfAThousandCuts
* DemotedToExtra (Gri seems to have lost importance to the series)
** Though in a recent episode, he appears to have been lounging around a lot, and may possibly regain his importance.
** Also, Robot hasn't been seen for a while, but this has been used as a driving force for a lot of the plot.
* DownerEnding ("In the end... it was their pride that killed them both. Dreams shattered... a friendship destroyed. Darkness and evil will consume the land... and life will cease to exist." [[spoiler: [[SubvertedTrope Just kidding.]]]]
* DiskOneFinalBoss (Kuya)
* DreamSequence (Episode 15 has a very surreal one)
* DrunkenMaster (Whiffler's abilities are based heavily around his alchohol use. It's exactly what makes him so [[MightyGlacier tanky]].
* DualBoss (Used as a boss [[spoiler: and as a party member as well. Abi and Ica fight as a pair, Abi as a defensive type, Ica for the offensive]].)
* DualWielding (Panzer does this, as does Namnaj the 10th, though the latter [[SingleStrokeBattle doesn't last long]])
* DynamicEntry (Janman saves Nomi through one of these. Doubles as a GagCensor.)
* EasterEgg (In episodes 14, Janman is watching a previous episode of the series on Totchi's computer.)
** Done again, and lampshaded by [[spoiler: Kuya]] in episode 41.
* ElementalRockPaperScissors
* EverythingFades
* {{Expy}}
** Kuya is an expy of both [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI Kefka]] and [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyIX Kuja]].
** [[RobotBuddy Rohbahtur]] seems to be based heavily off of [[VideoGame/ChronoTrigger Robo]].
** Likewise Diva seems to be based of of Flea from the same game.
** The characters discuss series' called [[Franchise/FinalFantasy "Beginning Reality"]] and [[VideoGame/ChronoTrigger "Time Switch"]] in one episode. The characters discussed are clear [[CaptainErsatz knock-offs]] as well.
* FightingYourFriend (Janman and Gri's RockPaperScissors battle.)
* FightWoosh
* {{Filler}} (Episode 12, Water and Good Health, Episode 16, The Search Begins, Episode 24, Car Care)
* FingerGun (Janman uses one on himself TWICE in episode 42)
* FissionMailed
* FiveManBand
* FunWithAcronyms (Diva often lapses into text / internet speak, using terms like OMG, and FML.)
* GetAholdOfYourselfMan
* GoryDiscretionShot (The group B.A.A. [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown Parade Beatdown]]. A peaceful shot of the lake while the sounds of a merciless beating echo in the background? Yeah...
* GoshDangItToHeck
** SymbolSwearing
* GroinAttack (Never before has hitting the damage cap been so hilarious)
* HeKnowsAboutTimedHits (Right at the beginning, in which Gri reminds Robot how to fight.)
** Also, Episodes 20 and 21 filled us in on some important in-game mechanics.
** How about Episode 41, in which Janman's father, Pro, teaches him a new style of fighting?
* HeelFaceTurn ([[spoiler: Kuya, after the team beat some sense into him]])
* HiddenDepths (Whiffler is surprisingly insightful when he's sobered up a little. It's also hinted that there may be a [[DrowningMySorrows reason he drinks so much]].
* HilariousOuttakes (Currently two collections of them on the Youtube account.)
* HopelessBossFight (Ryujin, Dragon, [[spoiler: Baya, and D]])
* IJustShotMarvinInTheFace (A non-gun example but very similar. When Janman is teaching Nomi how to use her wand like a knife, she ends up shooting him in the face with her magic. He then demonstrates again how she should have done it. She does... and blasts him in the stomach instead.)
* IJustWantToBeBadass (Totchi. He's unsatisfied that all he can do is support others and can't take care of himself. When he brings this up in a later episode [[spoiler: WHIFFLER]] of all people tells him "If anyone knows what it's like to be weak and defenseless... it's me."
* ImportantHaircut (Totchi [[TookALevelInBadass gains eight levels]] simply by doing this.
* InsaneTrollLogic (Nomi utilizes this, but its more due to her being a CloudCuckooLander than anything.)
* IneffectualLoner (Gri, for some reason outright refuses to work with anyone if he can help it.)
* IShallTauntYou / PracticalTaunt (Whiffler's Trash Talk B.A.A.)
* ItemGet (Parodied in the very first episode where Gri gets "Soapy Tap Water")
* LaughingMad (Kuya is this before [[spoiler: his HeelFaceTurn]] though he never quite gets better.)
* LampshadeHanging (A lot of jokes in the series rely on hanging a lampshade on RPG tropes.)
* LemonyNarrator (Some of the narratives at the beginning of each episode can get like this.)
* LoadingScreen (It IS a video game parody)
* KleptomaniacHero
* MadScientist (Steel definitely has shades of this early on. Later, it seems more like he just has anger issues.)
* {{Mana}} (An interesting take on this. Every character has a different version of the typical "Magic Points" used in many [=RPG=]s and each are a little different, at least [[InformedAbility in theory]]. FS (Fighting Spirit), which is based on HeroicResolve, RP (Rage Points) which is based on strong emotions, and so forth.
* MindScrew (Quite a few.)
** At the end of episode 13, Janman THINKS he sees Robot. It turns out to be Gri, who simply walks away. It's hard to say rather this was meant to be PlayedForLaughs or not, but its definitely surreal.
** Episode 15 has the DreamSequence. It starts innocent and peaceful, then quickly takes a turn for the ominous.
** Episode 59 with the Awareness Training. This one IS PlayedForLaughs (Or [[FunnyAneurysmMoment played for weird]]). During the Quick Time Event, the team begins acting really strange, culminating in them [[spoiler: actually KILLING Janman which results in a NonstandardGameOver]].
* {{Mooks}} (Pretty much the entire gang of Kabuki Kings encountered throughout the series)
** EliteMooks (Death Prancers count as this.)
* MookFaceTurn (Whiffler first appears as a member of the Kabuki Kings, possibly having joined while in the midst of a drunken stupor. He changes sides pretty quick.
* MundaneMadeAwesome: Pro's epic combing.
* MusicalAssassin (Baya of the Kabuki Kings. Quite literally)
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast (Diablo de Muerte)
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown (The group B.A.A. [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Parade Beatdown]].)
* NonstandardGameOver (Janman's [[PressXToNotDie "Awareness training"]] takes a turn for the bizarre when his team [[spoiler: KILLS him upon failing an attempt.]])
* NotSoDifferent (One episode shows a couple of {{Mooks}} attempting to recruit [[spoiler: Bahtur]] into the Kabuki Kings. While this may SOUND bad, the mooks in question were actually quite kind and supportive of him. In fact, it was Steel and Abica who were the aggressors of the following battle, threatening and attacking said mooks without provocation, and Steel himself, [[spoiler: Bahtur's creator who only wanted a killing machine]], and refused to accept him for who he was.)
* OneManArmy (Gri is this
* OhCrap (Totchi's reaction when Janman and Steel decide to demonstrate the Engine Buster on him.)
* OneManArmy (Gri. Due to being an IneffectualLoner, he refuses to work with anyone. He has the skill to back it up though, able to take on whole groups of {{Mooks}} or even bosses on his own.)
* OpposingCombatPhilosophies (Steel and Whiffler often argue on if offense or defense is the better.)
* OverlyLongFightingAnimation (A lot of B.A.A's)
* PaperThinDisguise (Subverted/Parodied with Robot Sr. The character IS Robot's father, but they don't even try to make him look different outside of a fake mustache and pipe. This is lampshaded by Gri.)
** Also "Oldjan" in the Car Care filler episode.
* PassingTheTorch (Inverted when Janman passes the [[spoiler: Wildfire Hoodie]] to [[spoiler: Totchi]]. In this case it's [[spoiler: TOTCHI]] that leaves to find his own path. Jan gives him the [[spoiler: hoodie]] as a way to keep him safe.)
* PeninsulaOfPowerLeveling (The Fields of Doughver)
* PressXToNotDie (Happens in a few episodes)
* ThePowerOfLove / ThePowerOfFriendship (Trust, friendship, and teamwork are key themes to the series.)
* ThePowerOfRock (Totchi, Baya, and Takumi fight using MagicMusic played on magical guitars.)
* TooDumbToLive (Who tries to stab an armor-plated robot with a [[SaiGuy SAI]]?)
* RapidFireFisticuffs (Gri's B.A.A., Perforation, and Robot's Special B.A.A., Angry Malfunctioning Robot. Bonus points for the latter being accompanied by a machine-gun sound effect.)
* RedOniBlueOni ([[TheSmartGuy Steel]] and [[TheBigGuy Whiffler]] provide an interesting inversion given their positions in the Ensemble. Steel is the red, while Whiffler is the blue.)
* RelationshipValues (Friendship Bonds, which affect the strength of Team B.A.A's)
* RickRoll (Sort of. It's Totchi's ringtone.)
* RobotBuddy / RobotMaid (Rohbahtur. He's extremely loyal, acts very gentlemanly, and most of his abilities are very Butler-esque)
* SayMyName (KUYYYAAAAAAA....!!!!)
* ScreenShake
* [[spoiler: SealedEvilInACan (Ryujin's power appears to be contained within artefacts)]]
* ShootTheMageFirst (Kuya tries to do this, but the heroes fortunately [[GenreSavvy planned for it]].)
* ShoutOut (Oh boy, here we go...)
** Episode 1 has a reference to ''Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda'' with the ItemGet pose and jingle.
** Episode 6 makes a reference to a certain famous song from ''Film/{{Mulan}}'' when Gri describes The Dragon's fighting style.
** Janman's ringtone in episode 14 is the Final Fantasy victory fanfare.
** In Episode 15, Janman sings along with the jingle for ''Series/MisterRogersNeighborhood''
** In Episode 16, Janman and Gri describe a game called "Armored Mechs 2". The title, and weapons sound an awful lot like [[VideoGame/ArmoredCore another mecha related game]].
** The end of episode 52 has a short scene between Bahtur and Gri. When telling Bahtur to leave him alone he says [[WesternAnimation/TheIronGiant "I go! You stay! Don't follow me!"]]
** One of Whiffler's drunken [[CatapultNightmare Catapult Nightmares]] references ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyIV''
** Episode 57 shows the team having a discussion about a series of movie (yes, movies) called [[Franchise/FinalFantasy "Beginning Reality"]], and another called [[VideoGame/ChronoTrigger "Time Switch"]].
* {{Sidequest}} (NOSY NOMI SIDE QUEST UNLOCKED!)
* SpamAttack
* SpoonyBard (Played with. Totchi seems to be this at first, having abysmal attack power and laughable moves and seeming effectively useless at level 1. It's quickly subverted with the reveal that his MagicMusic makes him a competent WhiteMage. The only one unhappy with this is Totchi himself, who feels useless and dissatisfied that all he can do is heal.)
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial ("Definitely not addicted to the Wildfire power. Not at all!")
* TeamChef (Janman's cousin, Meeks, makes great cookies, which comes in handy later on in the series)
* [[TheCuckoolanderWasRight The Drunk Was Right]] (When Team Parade is discussing Kuya, [[TheAlcoholic Whiffler]] suggests that his make-up is the cause of his insanity. No one seems to pay any attention to this comment... until the battle, when Kuya stops to reapply it after Janman rubs some off. At that point, Jan starts putting two and two together.)
* TheThingThatWouldNotLeave (Team Parade sometimes get a bit too... comfortable in Janman's house. Taken UpToEleven in episode 56.)
* TheReveal ([[spoiler: It appears Ryujin was Robot all along.]])
** [[spoiler: Rather, Robot is able to control Ryujin's body from within, and is [[TheChessmaster manipulating the Kabuki Kings]] to aid Team Parade.]]
* ThisIsGonnaSuck (Gri has this reaction when he fights The Dragon. He's right.)
* TrainingFromHell (Ouch... poor Totchi.)
* TrainingMontage (Plenty to go around, even later in the series!)
* TransformationSequence
* TraumaInn
* UnstoppableRage (A good portion of Steel's character development has to do with him learning to [[TranquilFury control]] this.)
* VictoryPose
* VillainousHarlequin (Kuya again. Not surprising considering who he's based off of.)
* WeaponOfChoice
** BareFistedMonk (Janman, Gri, Robot, and [[spoiler: Totchi, after Janman passes the Wildfire Hoodie to him]])
** MagicMusic (Totchi)
** BatterUp / CoolSword (Steel and Whiffler - They're clearly bats, but they regularly refer to them as swords.)
** MagicWand (Nomi)
** KnifeNut (Ica)
** LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe (Abi)
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity ([[spoiler: Totchi in the Wildfire Hoodie]]. He's addicted to its power, but is unable to control it. Every time he uses it, he gets a constant SlasherSmile, complete with an uncontrollable lust for violence. It's gotten to the point where he's even developed a complex bordering on split personality. A more subtle indicator is that whenever he uses it, his ManaMeter is based off of RP (Rage points) rather than [[spoiler: FS (Fighting Spirit)]], which every other practitioner of the [[spoiler: Wildfire Fist style]] uses.
* WizardNeedsFoodBadly (Taken to its logical conclusion with Nomi. She's a mage who, every time she uses her powers, gets extremely hungry and needs to eat A LOT in order to recover her strength.)
* YouAreAlreadyDead (Gri utters this line after using Vaporization on a group of Kabuki thugs.)
* [[YoureNotMyFather You're Not My Brother]] (Janman says this Kuya when they first meet again)
