The channel went through some [[DorkAge strange phases]] after Cruikshank sorta retired Fred as his animated equivalent in ''It's Fred!'' took over, culminating in the irreversible changes made after the series of [[ReplacementScrappy universally hated]] ''New Fred'' videos made when the channel was supposedly owned by Yuksung Corporation, a South Korean company. After the channel was "reclaimed" by Lucas in a stunt that revealed Fred to be held hostage by the Yuksung company, the channel started putting out new series of skits that [[InNameOnly weren't even slightly pertinent to Fred]] and only gained a fraction of the original Fred videos' views. As of now, the channel hasn't uploaded in over five months.

'''[[http://www.youtube.com/user/Fred Fred]]''' is 6. [[AgeLift (In the movies he's 18.)]] He's a {{cloudcuckoolander}} {{keet}} with HeliumSpeech, an alcoholic drug-addicted mother who likes to go out, and a dad on death row in the state pen. [[note]]In the movies, he doesn't know who his father is, so he imagines/hallucinates that it's wrestler John Cena.[[/note]] [[SarcasmMode You know, just like when you were a kid!]]

At its core, ''Fred'' is just a teenager acting hyperactive and pitching up his voice. That alone created one of the biggest Website/YouTube phenomena of its time, spawning merchandise, music, and a trilogy of movies. ''Fred'' is also one of the oldest phenomena on Website/YouTube, starting around Halloween 2006 (a year after the site's inception). His videos have gained lots of attention, regularly getting tens of millions of views, with his most viral video clocking out at over 70 million views.

However, that same video was released many years ago, and it's safe to say that ''Fred'' has lost most if not all of his relevance in the eye of the masses (despite this, he still has over 2 million subscribers).

Speaking of no longer being relevant, the Fred channel is going off in such weird and uncharted territories that it rarely has any connections to Fred anymore. [[ReplacementScrappy And don't even get us STARTED on the New Fred.]]

* DependingOnTheWriter: On just how dark it gets. The original youtube videos depend on a lot of dark humour, the animated series is dark as well, and manages to be even crueller to the characters then the videos. The movies are pretty clean, with some things from the original hinted at and some dark comedy by Nickelodeon standards. The TV show is squeaky clean, with maybe a couple adult-ish jokes scattered throughout.

** The web videos count too, even though they were on youtube, the darker jokes are slipped in subtly due to Fred's limited knowledge of the world combined with the fast pace of the videos most people don't catch on as to what Fred is actually talking about.

* OverlyLongGag: In the first movie, when Fred's faced with a car repairman who doesn't speak English, he thinks he is being messed with and proceeds to run away screaming, while we are shown brief shots of different areas (like near a fence, on a railroad track and even on a rollercoaster track). This continues until he runs into a live dam.
