The soldiers want women to repopulate, and upon seeing this group with two young beautiful females, they knew they'd found their prize. But, there were also two men with them, who no doubt would object to using the women as breeding stock, so they hanged back to try and devise a plan to get at least one of the men out of the picture (particularly the bigger stronger one).
