Mustard looks old enough to believably have grandchildren, plus he runs his own dojo. The first dojo we see in the games was in ''Kanto'', so it could be possible that he was born in that region prior to moving to Galar for unknowns reasons but still wanted to remember his home region. But before Mustard moved to Galar and became Leon's mentor, he had a son that he [[FamilyThemeNaming named]] [[IncrediblyLamePun "Ketchup".]] Obviously, such a name would be [[EmbarrassingFirstName embarrassing]] so Ketchup turned his name to "Ketchum." While his father was still in Kanto, Ketchum met and fell in love with Delia, resulting in her being pregnant with Ash. For reasons unknown, the two didn't marry but Delia opted instead to change her surname (and by extension, her son's surname) to her lover's name. This meant that when Mustard went to Galar, Ketchum could do so without much legal hassle, so that's what he did. Unfortunately, Ketchum got separated from Mustard while they traveled to Galar and until now, no one knows where he is. So if this theory is to be believed, Mustard is Ash's grandfather.

Buno has the same hair and eyes as Ash, plus he's an Elite Four member. And also in To Master the Onixpected! is it a little odd that Delia knows where his secret training ground on Mt. Hideaway.

Why, someone who runs a club dedicated to the sport, of course! In other words,

...and he is Ash's real father, stuck inside another body. This [[BalefulPolymorph tranformation]] happened before Ash's supposed LaserGuidedAmnesia, so he can't remember a thing. The real reason Pikachu wouldn't listen to Ash in the first episode is because the transformation was Ash's fault. Later in the series, Pikachu grows closer to Ash as he begins to forgive him.

Vader is practically the patron saint of [[LukeIAmYourFather unexpected parents]], and in a meta-way, it would fit. Even if this isn't the case, they might end up making Ash's father a DarthVaderClone [[LampshadeHanging to lampshade said unexpected parentage.]]

* Maybe Delia left Giovanni when she found he was a crime boss when she was with child, because maybe she wanted to their son a chance to have a normal life.

He's just like [[StarWars Anakin]], but without all the [[TheDarkSide dark side struggling]]. ''Yet.''

* Honestly, this guess actually makes ''the most'' sense out of everything on this entire page. Most flashbacks in the anime only show previously-established characters in the past, such as Ash, his friends, or Team Rocket. This one is unusual in that it shows a person we have never seen before or since. More pertinently, his face is blurred, suggesting that there was some effort made by the animators to keep his identity vague.
Also, consider what we see in the photo itself. He seems to be about the same age as Delia, and the fact that he has a fully evolved Pokemon-- a Rapidash--indicates that he is presumably a skilled Trainer himself. Ash seems to look up to him, if his excitement in the flashback is any indication.
