My guess is that Hilda was actually born normal after all. But then, the Loptyr Sect got their claws on her firsthand and pretty much convinced her to sell her soul to Loptyr and becoming its member while maintaining the royal presence. Why is this? A lot of Hilda's actions seems to be in line to what Loptyr Sect members are doing than any other nobles, so I tend to think that she used to be normal, if a bit power-hungry, but then gets tempted to join the sect and then worsening her personality.
