PS: Elliot's DisappearedDad was a [[IndianaJones somewhat libertine archaeologist]] who loved treasure-hunting a bit more than a quiet suburban life.

Instead of [[IndianaJones a certain archeologist]] suggested in the WMG above, Elliot's father is actually Mutt Williams aka Henry Jones III.
* This is actually much more likely. If he's 10 years old, Elliot would have been born around 1972, at which point Indy would be 73 years old (he was canonically born in 1899) and pushing 80 when Gertie came around. Even for IndianaJones that's a bit hard to believe. Mutt, assuming he was conceived during or shortly after the events of Raiders, would likely have been born in early 1937, which would make him a much more reasonable 35 for Elliot's birth.

** So he basically had alien scurvy? That could explain his very rapid recovery. It's possible for a human to die of scurvy if we don't get any Vitamin C, but even a small amount will cure it fairly rapidly.

** The Force somewhat screwed up and waves of pictures of the past somehow wound up in earthling George Lucas's dreams one night. He made a movie out of it. (Not the real George Lucas: his counterpart in the E.T. universe that made the movie the toys are based on.)

Oh, yeah - he can eat earth food, but it's a chemical he usually gets in his normal food he's lacking. One of the injections they tried when trying to bring ET back was the stuff or close enough to give him and extra boost.

** This is supported by the scientists' background dialogue -- they say that E.T.'s DNA is encoded with six bases instead of the four that terrestrial life has.
