Also, the rat Courage met at a diner was very friendly and found Kitty's and Bunny's relationship sweet. It's very likely that he was friends with them or at least there wasn't any tension between them. It's very likely that Kitty did have male relatives or acquaintances in her life with which she got along well. Since just like species, human races have both genders, chances are it was referring to that.
