Yet Veruca calls her mother "Mummy," not "Mommy." Explanation? They're a mixed nationality family.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the kids most likely to find a golden ticket either have wealthy/indulgent parents that let them go through lots of candy in one day, are willing to cheat to win, or both - In other words, no matter who ends up winning, they're probably going to be mostly jerks. Wonka realized this and devised the factory's various [[SecretTestOfCharacter Secret Tests of Character]] around vague archetypes based on the kind of kids he guessed would be likely to find a ticket, like "glutton who eats way too much chocolate" and "SpoiledBrat with rich parents who rigged the contest for them", then adapted the tour to the ones who ended up showing up. There's no room or CrowdSong tailored to Charlie because he's a genuine outlier who just got lucky, so Wonka's plans didn't account for him.
