*** Actually there's a biblical precedent for this exact theory. In the book of Job, it's not god testing Job, but satan, who has been given free reign by god to do pretty much whatever he wants to Job in order to get him to curse god's name. This could just be a similar test to show just how [[HumansAreFlawed flawed humans are]], that backfired on satan.

[[WMG:God, as played by Morgan Freeman, is not actually God.]]
He's [[Franchise/{{Superman}} Mr Mxyzptlk]] on break from trolling Superman. Unlike in the DC Universe, there's nothing to remotely compare to his (already incredibly [[RealityWarper formidable]]) power in the grounded universe of ''Bruce Almighty'', so he could easily [[GodGuise pretend to be God]] and have the power to back it up to normal humans. Like in ''ComicBook/EmperorJoker'' he was curious as to how someone would handle some of his power, but after how that went he knew it had to be with some normal down on their luck guy and not a cartoonish psychopath like the Joker. This is partly the reason why one of the limits is not to mess with free will; it's a power limiter to not have a ghost of a chance of something like Emperor Joker happen again. Going by "God" would make sure Bruce would never think of [[DidYouJustScamCthulhu scamming]] thing with his "secret imp name".

[[WMG:Bruce made everyone forget about his and Evan's on-air freakouts]]
Bruce randomly stumbling onto Jimmy Hoffa wouldn't be enough to get him his job back, considering what he did to get fired. However, it's possible he may have erased everyone's memories of the event, in order to ensure he got his job back. Likewise, he may have made them forget Evan's incident, since he too would be unlikely to get rehired.

*** God, as played by Morgan Freeman, is ''omnipotent''. Truly omnipotent, aside from a seemingly self-imposed limit of not wanting to mess with free will, not the cheapo {{nerf}}ed omnipotence Bruce got. He could easily stop Bruce's machinations from affecting anywhere else simply because he's ''just that good'' (my intention), or he could have put Buffalo into an alternate dimension. Because you put this as a separate guess, rather than under the above guess as a possible explanation, and simply {{Pot Hole}}d it instead of saying "''like'' in LightNovel/HaruhiSuzumiya", I thought you were making an [[RunningGag X and Y are Kyon and Haruhi guess]].

He's a construct of Bruce's mind, who's unaware of his godlike powers until it happens, in some [[LightNovel/HaruhiSuzumiya Haruhiesque]] kind of plot. Bruce himself could even be Haruhi, in one of her Universe's rebuilds.

[[WMG:The movie takes place in late May/early June 2004]]
We know Bruce meets back up with God on "the 7th at 7". We also know it's a Monday, because Bruce says "I go live on Monday". We also know it's the day of the Stanley Cup final. The movie came out in 2003, and the closest date which fits all of those categories is Monday the 7th of June 2004, so that must be when that scene takes place. Going by dialogue, Bruce has had his powers at this point for a week and a half ish, so he must have gotten them some time in the final week of May 2004.

[[WMG:Grace has some trust issues with Bruce before and during the film’s events, or perhaps maybe even in these cases, before and after Bruce got his godlike powers.]]
After several incidents in the beginning of the film, with Bruce having a meltdown and getting fired in the process as a result, not to mention having a fight in the apartment last night about the fact that where he used to have a mediocre job, a mediocre apartment and a mediocre life; even after Grace tries her best to appease him, Bruce on the other hand (in a rage at life) turns on her, and she takes it personally, which inflames him all the more.

Throughout and over the course of the very next other scenes and moments (including some deleted scenes) where Grace is starting to get worried, drinking wine and flipping through her photos, still wondering what Bruce is getting into, like roaming the city in despair, here however, she is completely oblivious to his personal space and assumes that he is helpless.

But who knows? Whether if it’s because she has trust issues or not, especially before and after Bruce received and obtained his all-new special powers and used some of it to make it up to her from earlier, it doesn’t matter in or at the very least amount.

The main point and concern of what ordeal they and the viewers come across is where in a fragile relationship, he has always put his career first – whether it’s his work on TV or his work as God Almighty.

What his girlfriend Grace doesn't understand is that he focused on his career so much because he thought that if he sacrificed now, they could have a much better life later.

If he could have just one thing in the world, it would be to make Grace happy, so he’s using his powers to try to improve things.

Their sex life has never been better and no one is perfect, but Bruce really needs to get his priorities straight if he wants to keep Grace.

He hasn’t been the most mature person lately, but after he informs her that he’s leaving to get his job back, Grace, although seemingly looks as if she’s extremely skeptical, turns her back on Bruce and shrugs it off with a very little sigh and giggle.

But within and toward the next scenes, Grace hasn’t even got a chance to watch TV, even so during the later events from the unearthing Jimmy Hoffa through to the meteor crashing to Earth, maybe she is thinking and worrying too much about what happened earlier in the past, or then again, depending on your view, either she has reasonable doubting, or that she just can’t really understand what is happening and going on in and around.

Probably because Bruce becomes increasingly enchanted with his new powers and ability to do anything he wants to make his life better as he even tries to be good to Grace who thinks that he's on the verge of a marriage proposal, where they go out for dinner at the restaurant where they first met, and he gets down on his knees in a romantic way, not for a marriage proposal, but to brag that he finally got anchor!

Grace is confused and hurt by Bruce's odd behavior, and the bizarre things that are happening around the apartment, but at the same time, tries not to show it, indicating that she’s pretending to be impressed and approved, in order to hide and not express what she’s really feeling on the inside or otherwise.

By now though, Grace is completely alienated and refuses to attend and celebrate Bruce's promotion to anchor, and in several alternative, extended, and deleted scenes, she is also not at all very fond with the new luxury life Bruce has provided (thanks to his godlike powers) and quickly flees out of here, hoping that one day he’ll grow up and act like a man.

Using his powers, Bruce finds a way to persuade her, but she arrives to find Bruce not quite resisting Susan, who's trying to seduce him. This is the last straw for Grace, and she breaks off the relationship.

Bruce arrives back at his lonely apartment, where he still tries to use his special powers and his own pursuit for other increasingly desperate efforts to try to get Grace back (along with a little mixture of his intelligence, patience, and ingenuity), but it doesn't work since he's breaking one of the rules God gave him... that he can't use his powers to "mess with free will."

But even so, right after Bruce is willing to undo his wrongdoings whenever his frequent selfish desires put others in trouble, he even finishes the photo album that Grace started to commemorate the highlights of their relationship, but when Grace's sister comes to pick up Grace's stuff, and sees that Bruce has finished the album, she takes pity and shame on him and tells him that Grace prays for him all the time.

Bruce returns to his computer at home and goes about answering prayers earnestly and just as he reads through them, he finds a prayer from Grace, wishing for his success and well-being.

As Bruce reads it, another prayer from Grace arrives, this one wishing not to be in love with him anymore.

Stunned by this development, he realizes she's praying for him right then as he watches her cry and, seeing her desperate unhappiness, feels utterly forlorn and helpless.

Wandering around the city in a state of emotional anguish, much like the night he got fired, he kneels in the middle of the road to pray, asking him to take back his powers and leaving his fate in God's hands, and suddenly, he regains consciousness and finds himself face-to-face with God, and in a white void.

God appears, and he asks Bruce what he really wants; Bruce admits that he only wants to make sure Grace finds a man that would make her happy.

God agrees, as they have a conversation during which God teaches Bruce how to pray and Bruce finds himself in the hospital, where Grace finally arrives, just as she comes and climbs in the bed, full of compassion and forgiveness.

She and Bruce rekindle their relationship, apologize to each other, learned from their mistakes, and later becoming engaged.

[[WMG:Bruce erased people's memories of Evan's on-air freak out]]
Even with Bruce resigning, it seems unlikely they'd have offered Evan his job back, given why he was fired in the first place. So most likely Bruce used his powers to make everyone forget what happened, so that way it wouldn't count against him. It's possible he might have done the same for his own freak out at the Maid of the Mist so Jack could rehire him earlier in the movie.
