* ObliviouslyBeautiful: Celia doesn't get much romantic attention because people are generally too intimidated to make an attempt, so she's largely unaware that most people consider her extremely attractive.
* ObliviousToLove: Akane seems mildly amused when Takahiro says he isn't popular. To be fair, setting aside Mio, just being friends with girls and having them interested in you are not really the same thing. Though she could simply know about girls that we don't see.
* OddNameOut: Most of the names are English, but Julianus is a Roman name. The proper descended form in England would be Julian.
* TheOjou: At one point Takahiro notes to himself that Noel is probably rich given that jousting is a rich man's sport, but not much mention is made of the wealth of the girls most of the time. However, Bertille gets standard silly ojou speech patterns and even does the ojou laugh, much to Takahiro's consternation. In the fandisk she gets her own rival Alice and they have ojou fights together.
* OnlyFriend
** Lisa makes friends with Mio and to a lesser extent the group surrounding her, but Fiona remains linked to Lisa alone. Even setting aside her new friends, Lisa is also close to Reina, even if Fiona doesn't like her.
** Celia is rather isolated at school. While everyone admires her, her only friends are Reina and potentially Takahiro. As such, she's generally uninvolved with the events of other routes because she just isn't close to anyone in the group.
* OutOfFocus: Mio stops directly interacting with Takahiro for much of Lisa's route because she doesn't want to make his girlfriend jealous. She still appears in a few crowd scenes, but most of the scenes where she'd have appeared are generally filled in by Kyle or Akane. Noel pretty much disappears entirely after awhile.
* OvershadowedByAwesome
** Bertille is either in the upper ranks of the B group or even an A rank jouster, but Celia is an S rank, Lisa is a genius, Noel is intentionally underrated and Akane is good enough to make Celia work for her victory. As such, it's really hard for her to stand out unless we're talking about how embarrassing your armor is to wear. More&More indicates that this is an issue based in her well meaning but ultimately incapable assistants and the inefficient training she undergoes. However, she's never given the chance to go up against any named character apart from Alice in a real match so it's hard to say how good she actually is with proper instruction.
** Kyle is often referred to as a begleiter equal to or superior to Takahiro, but he doesn't get the chance to stand out very often because he prefers to work with students that have a lot of untapped potential, meaning they don't perform particularly well in the tournaments even after he firmly guides their growth.

* PassiveAggressiveCombat: Fiona makes some rather nasty backhanded compliments at Bertille, who is generally too gracious to stoop to her level. Or too oblivious.

* PrincessCurls: As a ridiculous ojou, Bertille gets to have ridiculous ojou hair. Her hair is also invincible, able to repel water and gravity alike.

* RelationshipSabotage: Fiona does her best to sabotage Lisa's relationships with anyone else, from friends to lpossible begleiters or lovers.

to:

* RelationshipSabotage: Fiona does her best to sabotage Lisa's relationships with anyone else, from friends to lpossible possible begleiters or lovers.

* ReluctantFanserviceGirl: Akane always dresses modestly and wears pretty much the only armor that isn't custom built to show off her breasts, but she ends up dragged into a beauty contest during Celia's route where she's busy dying of embarrassment on stage while Bertille hams it up and Celia just kind of sails through things with her normal dignified attitude.

* RenaissanceMan: Bertille has a surprisingly wide - and random - range of abilities. She can cook and play tennis at semi professional levels, but can't swim. She's highly knowledgeable about various types of food, but has never eaten a crape. Her conversations with Alice also imply a further range of abilities that she never gets a chance to show off, which comes to the surprise of everyone, especially Anne and Emma.

* TheRival: After Mio defeats Bertille in a duel, the latter cheerfully claims Mio as her rival.

* RoseHairedSweetie: Mio is very bright and cheery.
* TheRunaway: When Noel's father drags her aside to tell her that she needs to stop jousting and dating Takahiro, Mireille tells Takahiro not to give up on her even if she treats him coldly. Apparently she doesn't know her sister very well because the next day she shows up Ayako's restaurant with a change of clothes. Noel may be many things, but a doormat is not one of them.

* {{Jerkass}}
** Fiona is kind of a dick to everyone but Lisa, and even then she's not exactly nice to her either. She tries to monopolize Lisa's time and overrule her opinions, sabotages her relationships, taunts the very kind Bertille and is generally simply unpleasant to everyone for absolutely no reason. There's also the implication that she simply picks fights with other students so that Lisa will defeat them in a duel on her behalf. [[spoiler:It's actually worse than that: Fiona picks fights so she can steal Lisa's techniques.]]
** Celia's brother Julianus is obsessed with victory and cast Takahiro aside after a single loss. The first time he sees him after abandoning him he simply says "Oh, you still exist huh?" What a charmer. Celia is rather upset to see what a dick he is.

* JustFriends: Setting aside Akane as a fandisk exclusive romaceable character, both Noel and Mio are more considered to be Takahiro's friends than anything. Noel seems to assume he's already dating Mio unless he goes out with Lisa or Celia and corrects her mistake like that while in her route she's quite pleased when her misunderstanding is cleared up earlier than that.

* KindheartedCatLover: Lisa may be prickly, but she adores the stray cat she named Sasami. Contrasting her, her jerky friend Fiona actually seems to be afraid of cats.
* KissingCousins: Ayako was PromotedToLoveInterest in the fandisk. She's his cousin, is viewed as an older sister figure and occasionally mothers him.
* LargeHam
** Kyle is always overly dramatic. His friends have given up on reacting to it.
** Bertille is silly and overly dramatic about everything, but since she's generally a nice person people don't really mind.

* LethalChef
** Takahiro doesn't want to start eating until he's sure Mio didn't cook the food she brought him. However, this isn't because she's bad at everything, but only because she's fond of experimenting but has no sense whatsoever, so she does things like put wasabi inside of sweets or chocolate inside rice balls.
** Noel can't cook, but she's genre savvy enough to know that that means she needs help if she wants to make breakfast for Takahiro, so she asks her little sister for help.

* LittleSisterHeroine: Mireille is so well behaved, kind and cute that everyone wants her for a little sister. She actually starts referring to Takahiro as her onii-sama even, causing him to spoil her rotten.

* MasterOfTheMixedMessage: Takahiro says a lot of things to Lisa that could come off as flirty and are taken as such but are generally not actually ''meant'' as such.
* {{Miko}}: Akane's family runs a shrine, but her older sister tends to take care of rituals for the most part. Akane is still used to wearing the clothes and taking care of tasks like cleaning the shrine, however.

* MySisterIsOffLimits: Julianus is angry at Takahiro for acting as Celia's begleiter, though he doesn't realize they're dating. [[spoiler:When he does finally figure it out after Celia's surprise victory, he can intellectually support the idea since he had shown his approval of Takahiro years ago but emotionally it's still difficult.]]

* NewJobAsThePlotDemands: Ayako seems to fill in most of the job related roles for the story. She's the single teacher we actually see, she's the school nurse and she runs the local cafe Tart Time after hours. Apart from that, she also takes care of Takahiro. When she does she sleep?
* NiceGirl
** Mio is very kind and social, so even people like Lisa have a hard time turning down her requests.
** Takahiro is actually amazed at how nice Bertille is. She refuses to rise to the Fiona's bait and calmly accepts her sarcastic 'compliments' and 'apologies.' When Fiona tries to be more direct, she just smiles and says she has her values and Fiona has hers. In More&More Fiona is nicer than in the original game but she's still completely unable to handle Bertille's benevolent attitude.
** Ely is very bright and friendly. She even remains completely supportive of Takahiro despite turning her confession down without a second though.
* NoblewomansLaugh: Takahiro dies a little inside when Bertille actually goes Ohohohoho!
* NoIndoorVoice: When Bertille thinks she's laughing quietly, her voice reaches across the entire campus. Also, whenever she gets excited she begins talking very loudly, generally causing some accidental innuendo in the process.
* NotSoStoic: Akane is always calm and serious unless she needs to fangirl Celia, at which point she'll worship her intention to try to break an egg.

* EvilIsPetty: Julianus is annoyed by Takahiro's 'bad influence' on Celia despite her actually encouraging him with her normal attitude, [[spoiler:so he alters the tournament so that the winner is granted the 'honor' of facing off against him in an exhibition match, having already threatened consequences if Celia fails to win all her matches in the tournament. And it's not even that he's being overprotective of Celia, but rather that she had the nerve to organize a separate, unofficial tournament after he altered the school's normal system.]]
* EyelidPullTaunt: Whenever Lisa wants to let someone know that she definitely doesn't care about what they're saying no sirree or Fiona pressures into it, she'll pull down her eyelid and go Akanbee~ at them.

* FalseFriend: [[spoiler:Fiona only stays near Lisa to steal her techniques. After a practice duel where Reina was about to beat Lisa, she decided she had learned enough and instantly betrayed her, publicly humiliating her by using her own techniques against her when she was emotionally shaken by getting her big sister hurt.]]

* FriendToAllLivingThings: Animals like Mio just as much as people normally do, which Takahiro realizes is advantageous when it comes to teaching her how to joust within a very short time period. She understands what the horse wants and can easily match herself to it.
* TheGadfly: Noel really likes teasing people, especially Mio with her really obvious crush or Takahiro and his flustered reactions.
* GagBoobs: Bertille's ridiculous chest is the subject to occasional jokes.

* GiftedlyBad
** Mio keeps confidently experimenting with new cooking even though it's always a disaster.
** James thinks he's good at chess. He isn't. He repeatedly loses to a little girl.
* GirlishPigtails: Lisa's hair is always in two simple twintails.
* GirlsAreReallyScaredOfHorrorMovies
** In Lisa's route she and Takahiro go through the haunted house together at the school festival. To be fair, they both do very poorly here.
** In Akane's route, Takahiro is much calmer, but Akane is even worse with horror than Lisa and is scared even before they actually get started, flinching when Takahiro merely speaks to her and dashing for the exit when Takahiro gets hit with a classic haunted house scare. He didn't even scream or anything, but she still panicked.
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: Celia collects stuffed animals. It jars a little with her mature image, but she's surprised at Takahiro's surprise.
* GracefulLoser
** Bertille accepts her defeat calmly, noting that even if she had been letting her guard down a loss is a loss. It would be ignoble to pretend otherwise and an insult to pretend it was merely bad luck. When she learns that Mio isn't even in the knight class she's considerably more embarrassed, but she still comes to the party to celebrate Mio's victory.
** Ely tries her best to win Takahiro over before Ayako can, but when she's too late she simply gives up and congratulates him.
* GreenEyedEpiphany: Ely always flirting with Takahiro makes Ayako uncomfortable even as she says that she has no reason to interfere. At some point she runs out of ways to fool herself.

him.

* HardWorkHardlyWorks: Bertille is hard working and talented, but despite the long hours of training she puts in she generally never matches up to the likes of Noel or Lisa. However, her route indicates that while she puts in a lot of work, she doesn't spend her time efficiently.
* HateSink: Fiona is thoroughly unlikable. Fortunately, you're not supposed to like her. She's cowardly, smug and quite cruel. [[spoiler:Also, she betrays Lisa, so you can't even say she meant well. But then she gets a redemption scene and gains a crush on Takahiro, so whatever.]]
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Both Takahiro and Mio refuse to accept praise for their abilities. In Mio's case it's because she's genuinely modest, but for Takahiro it's partially because he just holds himself to very high standards. When Akane, Kyle and Bertille hear his disappointment that his practice performance was 'only' at the level of an A or upper B rank knight after being out of practice for years, they say he must have been a real monster in the past.
* HeroWorshipper: Akane is Celia's number one fangirl. In her ending she grows out of it [[spoiler:after successfully managing a tie against her idol.]]

** Near the end of Lisa's route, [[spoiler:Fiona gains a crush on Takahiro. Yeaaaaah that's not gonna happen. It doesn't even happen in either of the fandisks.]]

* ICouldaBeenAContender: Takahiro used to be an excellent jouster, but an injury and the loss that accompanied it made him quit. In the present, it's not the injury that keeps him from getting back into jousting but rather that his former teacher was a huge prick. During a practice spar with Celia, he does well enough to amaze Akane and Lisa, though he himself notes that his performance is quite below where it used to be thanks to being out of practice. [[spoiler:At the end of her route, he decides that he'll eventually become a knight again with Celia's help and a year later is occasionally able to score points off of Julianus.]]

* IllGirl: Mireille, Noel's little sister, is unable to walk following an injury. However, she actually already underwent a successful surgery to fix the issue, so no one is quite sure why she's still unable to use her legs. Either way, Noel intends to full her promise with her: If Mireille underwent the surgery, then Noel would win the next tournament.

* ImportantHaircut: Mio cuts her long hair just to avoid the small chance that it will interfere with her duel with Bertille. She wants to show how serious she is about the match even if it's the only one she'll ever be in.
* IneffectualLoner: Lisa is held back by her unwillingness to have a begleiter. Without a partner to correct her strategy, she's limited to only her own observations and strategies. Even setting that aside, she treats her horse like a tool and drives it rather hard as a result. This isn't a problem in single matches, but it tires the horse and leaves her relationship with it more distant than it should be. It also leads to rather one sided losses in tournaments against Takahiro's knight.
* InnocentFanserviceGirl: No matter how much her two assistants joke about it, Bertille never realizes that her armor has a really embarrassing design. She also fails to realize the problem with being lifted up into a tree while wearing a short skirt.

* InsecureLoveInterest
** Takahiro finds it very difficult to believe that Celia actually respects and values him rather than simply pitying him, which is a belief that Julianus tries to reinforce. It's not necessarily romantic in nature, but it is partially so. Once their relationship does advance his worries are left behind, however, and he'll even stand up to Julianus' attempts to make him feel unworthy.
** Noel covers it very well, even urging Takahiro to appreciate Mio more, but she's actually nervous of his relationship with not just her but also Ayako. Of course, she could just be a really gloomy drunk.
* InstantExpert: Takahiro is oddly impressed with Celia flawlessly using chopsticks the first time she eats soba noodles. Instead, she finds it difficult to make the proper slurping sounds when eating them.

* InsufferableGenius: For all his irritating snobbishness, Julianus really is the best jouster around, able to easily [[spoiler:break both Celia and his own weapon repeatedly, a very difficult feat that most people aren't even aware was intentional.]]

* IResembleThatRemark: The moment Kyle calls Lisa childish she starts sulking. Real mature.

* AboveTheInfluence: When Ayako gets drunk to drown her weird feelings of jealousy regarding Takahiro and Ely, she eventually wanders into the living room wearing nothing but a see through nightgown. Takahiro is kind of turned on but mostly freaked out when she basically pushes him down and kisses his cheek.

* AccidentalPervert
** Takahiro wanders into harem romcom world on accident at one point in Ayako's route, managing to not only walk in on her naked but also somehow slip and end up grabbing her breasts.
** He also gets wacky pervert hijinks when Anne pushes him and makes him trip, sending him diving right in Bertille's crotch. If Bertille wasn't an idiot, nothing would have come of this though, but she pins his head between her thighs and refuses to let go so he won't see her underwear. Which he already did and didn't care about.
** When visiting Akane's family, Takahiro is invited to take a bath. Soon after, her mom sends Akane in under the mistaken impression that their relationship would have progressed that far at least. They're not even dating in the first place at this point. If Akane had stayed calm nothing would have happened, but she panicked and dropped her towel.
* TheAce
** Celia is considered the undisputed top of the academy, though new student Lisa is also considered to be at least near her level. What the group considers perhaps most worthy of praise, however, is that Celia kept a straight face after apparently eating one of Mio's experiments.
** Takahiro is also known to have been an excellent jouster, but he gave it up for reasons he refuses to speak about. However, his reputation precedes him and both Celia and Noel request for him to be their begleiter. [[spoiler:Even as a knight he can still provide a decent match to Celia, even managing a victory in their second match]].
* {{Adorkable}}: Celia is always very serious and composed, which can come off both cute and funny when she's talking about stuffed animals or trying and failing to eat soba 'properly.'
* AllTakeAndNoGive: Fiona basically wants to run Lisa's life for her with just the two of them alone together, regardless of what Lisa actually wants or needs. When Takahiro questions her about this at one point, she ignores him.
* AlmightyJanitor: Noel is one of the better knights in the academy, but her inconsistent play and intentionally mediocre rank leave her relatively obscure. While she's A list in terms of ability, she stays at rank B in order to avoid family attention.

* AloofBigBrother: Julianus is always rather cold and distant and doesn't seem to be very close to his sister as a result. [[spoiler:After she and Takahiro defeat him in a joust, though, he realizes they're dating and shows that he ''is'' protective of her, having conflicted feelings about someone taking away his sister even when it's someone whose ability he recognizes.]]

* TheBeard: Akane's mom invites her back to Japan and tells her to bring her 'boyfriend' Takahiro with her so she can see her grandma, who hasn't been feeling well. Akane doesn't correct her misunderstanding since she's worried about her grandmother, leading to wacky hijinks for all.

* BerserkButton: Lisa hates being treated like a child. When she is, she tends to react pretty childishly.
* BizarreTasteInFood: Lisa absolutely loves spicy food and assumes everyone else does as well, so she enjoys Mio's disastrous experiments. When she makes lunch for Takahiro, she brings out a bottle of tabasco sauce for the sandwiches, which are already practically glowing red with all the spices in them.

* BreakoutCharacter: Akane was very popular in the original game and probably should have been one of the heroines to start with. As such, the fandisk is largely built around her.

* ButNotTooForeign: Mio is English by nationality and presumably birth, but her name indicates that her family must have have been Japanese immigrants recently enough to still give her a Japanese name. The other girls are genuinely foreigners though apart from fellow immigrant Akane.

* CannotKeepASecret: About twenty minutes after Takahiro tells Mio he's thinking of returning to jousting the rumor has spread across the entire school.
* CannotSpitItOut: At first glance, Mio would seem to be suffering from an inability to confess. However, as time goes on, it becomes clear that she's genuinely uninterested in doing so and is entirely supportive of any of his other relationships well before they even begin.
* CelibateHeroine: A lot of the people around Bertille assume she's unwilling or unable to get a boyfriend. Her friends joke that she'll be alone forever while her parents are overjoyed to hear that she actually did get a boyfriend.
* CharacterDevelopment
** In Lisa's route, she realizes she really is limited by trying to do everything alone and learns to work with Takahiro as a true partner, even coming to understand that [[spoiler:the even more jerky Fiona is not dissimilar to how she was not long before and probably needs her help.]]
** In Celia's route she actually already has a pretty stable personality so instead Takahiro learns to embrace jousting again, often serving as her practice partner in addition to her begleiter. [[spoiler:He even starts to stand up to Julianus and reconciles with him as a result, becoming a full knight again in the epilogue.]]
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Unlike in previous routes, in her own when she comes up against the clearly superior Celia she becomes demoralized and loses easily, leaving her in a slump afterwards. Before, she wouldn't have been that concerned about it.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: Mio is a love interest. She was the first friend Takahiro made when he moved to this country.
* ClingyJealousGirl
** Noel is an odd example. She wants Takahiro to appreciate Mio more and realize how much she does for him, but also gets jealous when she hears that he would sleep together with Ayako (minds out of the gutter!) when he was ten.
** Ayako gets uncomfortable when Takahiro spends time with girls like Ely, though she tries to hide it.
* CluelessChickMagnet: Mio and Celia are both quite popular, though neither realizes it. Mio is simply oblivious while most people are too intimidated by Celia to make a move on her.
* CombatPragmatist: Noel likes using tricks and feints. In her duel with Celia, [[spoiler:she even tricks Celia into committing a foul and then tricks her the next round by ''not'' attempting any tricks, catching the now wary Celia off guard.]]
* TheComicallySerious: Celia's serious side doesn't turn off when she talks about the greatness of teddy bears, it only makes her more passionate.
* CompetitionFreak: Julianus is obsessed with victory at all times and cast Takahiro aside after he lost due to an injury. Takahiro doesn't buy into this philosophy anymore, but he still feels it was his fault somehow. Celia lacks this attitude and criticizes her brother for it, though he cuts her off. [[spoiler:His attitude towards Takahiro isn't quite as hostile as it seems, however. While he did cast Takahiro aside, he was waiting for Takahiro to stand up as a knight on his own.]]

* CoolBigSis
** Ayako is Takahiro's cousin, but functions more as a protective big sister figure. He finds her sort of scary, though.
** Reina is effectively Lisa's big sister, though the relationship has a few snags thanks in part to Fiona.
** Akane adores her older sister Satsuki, who alternately dotes on her and teases her. According to Akane, Satsuki is basically TheAce at everything and better than Akane at almost everything she does.
* CordonBleughChef: Lisa hasn't really cooked before, so when Takahiro realizes that she made him lunch and obviously made it very spicy he's terrified at first, but after the initial shock he finds out that it's actually pretty good. It may simply have better balance than the spicy experiments that Mio comes up with, which generally involve adding hot sauce or wasabi to things that they absolutely clash with.

* DarkHorseVictory: Noel goes into the tournament hoping to be underestimated a little, so she's a little disappointed when people are impressed and start paying more attention to her. She manages to take a round against Celia and in the third round she's invigorated by [[spoiler:her sister and father arriving. But she still gets knocked off her horse by Celia when she gets truly serious.]]

* DefrostingIceQueen
** Lisa is more the classic tsundere than the normal kind. While she starts off pretty hostile to Takahiro, as she grows closer and learns that he genuinely means well and can be trusted she warms up to him. She's still a little prickly, however, given that she's sort of childish.
** In the epilogue for Lisa's route, [[spoiler:Fiona has also mellowed out. She also kind of proposes a threesome with Takahiro.]]

* DemotedToExtra: Lisa rarely appears in More&More. Her few appearances generally relate more to her friend Ely because she isn't a friend of Takahiro's and has little reason to talk to him. Celia also doesn't show up much, but then she didn't show up much in the first place apart from her own route.
* DisabledMeansHelpless: Mireille is wheelchair bound and is generally treated like she's not capable of doing much. What she thinks of such treatment isn't entirely clear given how polite and kind she is, but she does have to point out once that she's capable of wheeling her chair to her own room in her own house once.

* DontYouDarePityMe: He doesn't get particularly angry about it, but it turns out the reason Takahiro declines Celia's request is because he thinks her desire for him to be her begleiter is insincere. He assumes that she probably just feels bad for him since her brother is a dick. He doesn't want to work for someone that wants him for those reasons, but if he clears up the misunderstanding he agrees to work for her easily enough.

* AscendedExtra: Anne and Emma, Bertille's assistants, get some more development in her route that they were really lacking before. They still fundamentally act as one character, though.

* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Unlike in previous routes, in her own when she comes up against the clearly superior Celia she becomes demoralized and loses easily, leaving her in a slump afterwards. Before, she wouldn't have been that concerned about it.

* DontYouDarePityMe: He doesn't get particularly angry about it, but it turns out the reason Takahiro declines Celia's request is because he thinks her desire for him to be her begleiter is insincere. * LastNameBasis: Celia, Akane and Bertille refer to Takahiro by his last name. For Bertille and Celia this is normal enough given that they're not that close, but for Akane it's a sign of her formality and emotional reservation. The moment she refers to Takahiro by his first name in front of Kyle, he picks up on it.

* TheLoad: Anne and Emma just aren't very good as begleiters or actual support, meaning that the reasonably talented Bertille has issues with an efficient training regimen. After Ann injures her leg she and Emma ask if Takahiro can help Bertille in their place. He basically scraps their normal plan and starts from there. The new plan he comes up with gets good results, but it's significantly tougher than the plan she had before so she's generally out of breath afterwards.
* LoveConfession: Ely walks into Takahiro a few times, indicates she knows him and during their third meeting abruptly confesses in front of Ayako, Mio, Lisa and Fiona. He only just learned her name. He turns her down flat.

** Ely pursues Takahiro, who considers her a good friend but no more. Takahiro himself is going for Ayako, sort of, while she reciprocates, sort of. Making things a bit weirder is that after Takahiro earns Clyde's respect he begins squabbling with Ely for Takahiro's attention.

Bertille is either in the upper ranks of the B group or even an A rank jouster, but Celia is an S rank, Lisa is a genius, Noel is intentionally underrated and Akane is good enough to make Celia work for her victory.
* {{Padding}}: Bertille's route devotes an abnormal amount of time to essentially meaningless training. Later, after the tournament failure, there's a long stretch of largely pointless harem hijinks with Alice and Bertille fighting over Takahiro including teaching Bertille to swim and a rather lengthy tennis match before we're suddenly back to jousting again.

* RememberTheNewGuy: Remember Fiona and Lisa's energetic and talkative blond friend Elimiya? No? How forgetful of you to remember such an important friend. However, given that More&More is marketed as a spinoff rather than a fandisk it's possible that even retroactively she didn't exist in the original and may be why Fiona is so much less horrible of a person. With a third and significantly more social friend to complete their group she's less bitter and conniving.
* RescueRomance: Alice gains a crush on Takahiro after he helps her escape from a pack of dogs and then gets mad and tells her to take better care of herself, though she was likely already attracted to him. Unfortunately for her, there's no possibility of reciprocation given that she's just a side character for a side character.

* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: Bertille's parents have personalities as strong as hers. When they hear she has a boyfriend, they want to throw an elaborate party to celebrate.

* BadLiar: Most of the cast are pretty transparent liars, including flat out muttering about possible excuses in front of the person they're trying to deceive. Akane in particular is noted to be very bad at lying since she has such a naturally honest and direct personality. This doesn't mean she can't hide things just by staying quiet, just that once people ask her the truth becomes obvious.

* TheBeautifulElite: Many students of Winford are nobility and without exception they tend to be very beautiful, wealthy and talented people. Not only that, but the nobility are actually quite active and important, leading them to be mostly responsible and prominent. Celia's family, for example, is very meritocratic and has a tradition of military service while Bertille's family are ridiculous but still very kind.

* BokeAndTsukkomiRoutine: Kyle likes to be ridiculous so that people can make fun of him. On at least one occasion, people take his posturing at face value and he seems rather lost.

* BridalCarry: When sparring with Takahiro, Akane trips and injures her ankle. Overruling her embarrassment, he picks her up and carries her home.

* CannotKeepASecret: About twenty minutes after Takahiro tells Mio he's thinking of returning to jousting the rumor has spread across the entire school.

* CelibateHeroine: A lot of the people around Bertille assume she's unwilling or unable to get a boyfriend. Her friends joke that she'll be alone forever while her parents are overjoyed to hear that she actually did get a boyfriend.
* CharacterDevelopment

* ClingyJealousGirl: Noel is an odd example.

Added DiffLines:

* CookingDuel: Takahiro can't decide to work with between Bertille, Noel and Celia, so Mio eventually ends up having to decide some kind of way to decide, which everyone agrees on. She proposes a cooking challenge.

Added DiffLines:

** Akane adores her older sister Satsuki, who alternately dotes on her and teases her. According to Akane, Satsuki is basically TheAce at everything and better than Akane at almost everything she does.

Added DiffLines:

* CuttingTheKnot: Unable to immediately figure out how to delete an embarrassing photo from her sister's smartphone, Akane immediately decides to destroy it instead. Unfortunately for her, her sister is faster and stronger than her and takes it back immediately.

Well, there are smartphones, cell phones and the ability to travel easily between countries, so I\'m just going to ignore the thing about jousting and the nobility I suppose.

* AlternateHistory: The world the story takes place on is probably Earth, but given that jousting is a popular sport and the implications of a lower technology level and a powerful nobility despite mostly modern values and conveniences, it seems that it's not the Earth we actually know. Japanese immigrants like Takahiro are also a subject of curiosity, hinting that travel between countries is significantly rarer.

* BreakoutCharacter: Akane was very popular in the original game and probably should have been one of the heroines to start with. As such, the fandisk is largely built around her.

* GenkiGirl: Shinonome always seems to be running about or babbling at maximum speed.

* TheMaidenNameDebate: While Takahiro manages to form a relationship with Noel or Celia regardless of the difference in class, it's still clear that he'd be marrying into their families rather than the other way around, assuming their families even accept such a marriage [[spoiler:and Noel's doesn't at first.]] At the end of the routes [[spoiler:he marries into the Ascot or Aintree families respectively.]]

* NonSequiturCausality: Surprisingly averted. Mireille gets mildly sick in April and makes Noel late in several routes while Julianus changes the tournament rules no matter what. The only thing that changes is how people react and what you're directly informed about.

* PromotedToLoveInterest: Akane, Bertille and Ayako are all romanceable in the fandisk.

* TookALevelInKindness: Fiona is less evil in the fandisk, even going so far as to ask Takahiro to be Lisa's begleiter. Which kind of entirely contradicts her established personality but just go with it. The pair actually acts something like actual friends as well, something that wouldn't have been possible in the original.

* {{Tsundere}}: Though normally rather cool and polite, Lisa reacts poorly to Takahiro and is more hostile towards him. He's not really sure what the problem is since he didn't know who she was before her match with Akane and after it barely spoke two words to her. She also doesn't want to admit that she was worried about Mio after she was challenged to a duel. Takahiro isn't the greatest at picking up tsundere signals even though it kinda seems like she wants him to notice without her having to say it.

to:

* {{Tsundere}}: {{Troll}}: Fiona does her best to piss people off so she can start fights. Surprisingly enough, Bertille manages to absolutely shut down her attempts, frustrating her in return.

** In the fandisk both Bertille and Fiona move into tsundere territory: Bertille's pride is played up while Fiona is actually made into someone who wouldn't get punched in the face during every conversation she ever has.
* UnknownRival: Bertille has a habit of proclaiming others to be her rivals. She tries it on Mio, but Mio isn't interested in continuing to joust. Plus, she considers Bertille better than her anyway.

* WhereTheHellIsSpringfield: The story never really mentions where it takes place, only that it's somewhere vaguely European. Most of the names are English, such as Lisa, Kyle and Celia, but a few like Bertille are French and there's even ''Julianus,'' which is a Roman name. It's also never stated directly where Takahiro and Akane are from, though it's probably Japan given their names and Lisa mentioning that Takahiro is mildly famous as a jouster immigrant from eastern Asia.

Okay after reading Walkure Romanze myself I can safely conclude that the adaptation just has a ton of difference from the VN and might as well get its own page. It\'s certainly more different than the Persona 4 anime was from the game.

[[quoteright:320:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/walkureromanze_8781.jpg]]

Horses dashing gallantly... Knights challenging their own limits... Magnificent, heroic battles highlight the horseback lance sport of jousting. One of the many people fascinated by this proud sport, Mizuno Takahiro, acts as a begleiter (an assistant) to jousting knights as he lives his rather tedious life at Winford Academy. This is the story of Takahiro and these female knights in their passionate, noble battles.

An anime of the game aired during the Main/Fall2013Anime season. Crunchyroll is currently streaming the anime, and can be [[http://www.crunchyroll.com/walkure-romanze viewed here]] worldwide except in Asia.

resolution. For tropes pertaining to that adaptation, please visit that page.

!!Tropes in the show include:

* AbsurdlyPowerfulStudentCouncil: After Mio is issued a duel challenge by Bertille, she tries to protest that she isn't even training to be a knight. However, the student council says that a knight's honor is on the line anytime they do something like this, and allows this duel on the grounds of it being a training session. The only alternative is to quit the school, but Mio refuses that option, since it wouldn't allow her to be close to Takahiro, so she reluctantly agrees to the duel...
* TheAce: Celia, sometimes to her chagrin [[spoiler:like during the beauty contest, where when it came her turn, just by being up on stage the judges already gave her score before she could even do her talent segment, much to her disappointment]].
* ACupAngst: Lisa has some slight insecurities about her chest size.
* AlternateHistory: Seems to be the case with the show's setting, although the actual point of divergence from our own's isn't very clear. We know that it takes place on some version of Earth since real world locations like England and Japan exist, and Celia even refers to a story of president Theodore Roosevelt (meaning that the US also exists and that it's, at the very least, sometime after his presidency). We also know it's the modern day because miniaturized electronics (such as earbud speakers) exist and everyone behaves like modern day humans (from wearing modern day underwear to treating school and hanging out afterwards like modern day teenagers would). At the same time, ''something'' has clearly changed since architecture and fashion all follow a version of the medieval or Renaissance aesthetic, jousting is considered a popular sport (practiced by both men and women) and the nobility, such as Noell's family, still possess wealth and power. Furthermore, episode 7 of the series raises some questions regarding the world's history of war, since at least one of the windmills near the school still has a stock of clean, functional weapons (implying the last war didn't happen all ''that'' long ago)... the most advanced of which appears to be a flintlock musket.
* AnimalsHateHer: Played with. Fiona does not like the cat that sticks around Lisa.
* ArmorPiercingSlap: Takahiro receives two of them from Reina.
* AttractivenessIsolation: Celia is gorgeous, kind and bar none the best knight in the school. Because of this, people have a hard time approaching her, resulting in her having few friends and suffering from social insecurities.
* BalancedHarem: In the anime, none of the girls have a significant lead over the others towards Takahiro.
* BarbieDollAnatomy: Happens a couple of times during the jousting matches, to show off the girl's determination to win and strike their opponent.
* BleachedUnderpants: Similiar to its [[VisualNovel/PrincessLover predecessor]], the anime doesn't include any explicit scenes shown in the game. That said, the anime team use every opportunity to insert {{Fanservice}} scenes as much as possible.
* BrokenBird: Two of the girls have a troubled past:
** Lisa [[spoiler:was a TheOjou until her mother died, leaving her largely alone, and her relatives more interested in splitting up the fortune than take care of her. She uses jousting as a means to express herself and become less reliant on others.]]
** Noel [[spoiler:feels guilty because of her younger sister becoming a parapalegic due to a horse riding accident.]]
* ButNotTooForeign: For a bucolic English countryside town, Helen's Hill has an unusually large number of Japanese residents.
* [[CantHoldHisLiquor Cant Hold Her Liquor]]: Bertille gets drunk off fruit juice at the end of episode 12. One of her friends [[LampshadeHanging points this out.]]
* CareerEndingInjury: Takahiro appears to have suffered a leg injury preventing him from jousting. However, due to his skills, he is still very useful as a Begleiter, and several of the girls want him to be theirs, and [[RelationshipUpgrade possibly more...]]
* CliffHanger: Episode 11 ends on one, [[spoiler:during the semi-finals match between Noel and Celia. Both girls are tied and the scene ends before we find out who won.]]
* ClingyJealousGirl: A few of the girls display this from time to time. Used most by Fiona towards Lisa.
* CuteLittleFang: Noel has one.
* DangerouslyShortSkirt: Standard female attire at the school. Sakura the horse makes it a point to lift them up or tear them off whenever given the opportunity.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Bertille towards Mio after the latter defeats her.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Lisa, who is cold towards several of the others but gradually warms up to them after she spends more time with them.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: The anime has several instances of this, usually involving Mio doing rather suggestive sounding things while training with Takahiro on how to joust.
* DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale: Takahiro is often on the receiving end of this from the girls.
* EarCleaning: Noel does this in episode 9 during the beauty contest.
* {{Fanservice}}: The anime is chock full of this, such as the beauty contest in episode 9, and during episode 7 when Takahiro finds a naked Celia and Akane in a windmill after the two girls lose their clothing in a windmill during a rainstorm.
* GentlemanAndAScholar: This is what draws the main girls to Takahiro. He was a skilled jouster, adept at both the physical and strategic aspects of the sport, making him very useful as a squire. [[spoiler:His reasons for leaving the sport, other than [[CareerEndingInjury the last major injury he took,]] [[DisappointendInYou are unrelated to choosing between the girls.]]]]
* GratuitousGerman: The title makes a lot more sense when you realize that Walkure is the German spelling for Valkyrie.
* HeroicSecondWind: Noel receives one during episode 11, [[spoiler:when her father makes it to her semi-final match, and instead of harboring hatred for jousting due to Mireille's injury, he cheers her on. While she admits it was embarrassing, it gives her some renewed confidence.]]
* HypocriticalHumor: During a training session, the girls thank Bertille's friends, which causes Bertille to start talking and taking in said compliments. Her two friends protest, saying she shouldn't be answering for them, and Bertille says that they're essentially an extension of her, so it's natural that she should answer. Later, they thank Bertille, and her friends immediately answer, causing Bertille to protest. The two friends then use the same explanation she used earlier on her.
* IllGirl: Mireille, Noel's little sister, who suffered a horse riding accident which left her crippled from the waist down. However, Mireille refuses to let Noel take the blame and encourages her sister to continue to take up jousting.
* ImportantHaircut: Mio has one before her duel with Bertille.
* ImprobablyFemaleCast: While guys do seem to take part in jousting too, as evidenced by Takahiro, the show focuses exclusively on the female participants. Even Takahiro doesn't actively joust in the show due to his injury.
* InstantExpert: While Mio does have to get trained to joust, she picks it up surprisingly fast despite not having done any of it before.
* InstantWinCondition: Hitting an opponent's feather on their helmet, known as a "Feather's Fly", instantly causes whoever struck it to win. Interestingly enough, hitting an opponent in the helmet is also extremely dangerous, and also disqualifies you if you hit their head. Which means this move is best [[AwesomeButImpractical left to experts.]]
* JumpedAtTheCall: While Mio only did it because she was forced to at first, she eventually comes to love jousting and starts taking part in it.
* LonelyTogether: Lisa and Fiona, both who came from LonersAreFreaks pasts and for the most part were unable to make friends with anyone else.
* MyGreatestFailure: Takahiro is haunted by his failure from his last jousting match where he fell off his horse and earned a look of disappointment from Celia's brother. He claims he's reluctant to become any of the girl's begleiter because he feels he wouldn't be able to live up to the high standards he set for himself to serve them.
* NoblewomansLaugh: Bertille does one after running into Mio for the first time.
* NoGuyWantsToBeChased: In the anime, every time the girls put Takahiro on the spot regarding who he'd pick, he's understandably nervous and unable to choose, particularly as all of the girls are there at the same time.
* NonActionGuy: While he was a jouster in the past, during the show Takahiro takes a support role for the girls as the battle each other.
* NoRomanticResolution: [[spoiler:In the anime. Takahiro is confronted by the girls again at the end of episode 12, when Mio asks him who he would have been a begleiter for had the horse situation not of come up. He panics and backs up, and a timely distraction by Fiona and the cat gives him enough time to state that the horses need his attention, and he runs out of the cafe. The girls chase after him as the credits roll.]]
* NotSoAboveItAll: An outtake at the very end of episode 12 shows Sakura as voiced by Takahiro, claiming to have been the main character in the show. [[spoiler:He mentions various girls and wanting them to "ride" him. "Sakura" then turns out to be Takahiro wearing a horse costume, and then is spotted by the girls, who are unimpressed by it.]]
* NotWhatItLooksLike: Takahiro is often caught up in these situations.
* PantyShot: Several are seen thanks to low camera angles and DangerouslyShortSkirt.
* ObliviousToLove: Takahiro seems largely ignorant of the girl's affections towards him.
* SchoolGirlLesbians: Akane towards Celia, to the point that she swoons and enters her own little world anytime the former is nearby or someone merely mentions her name.
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: Takahiro often end up having to explain to the other girls that he's not dating anyone.
* SpiritualSuccessor: To ''VisualNovel/PrincessLover''.
* SuperDeformed: The characters at the end of episode 12.
* StudentCouncilPresident: Celia.
* SustainedMisunderstanding: In episode 9, Bertille fails to pay attention to what her two underlings tell her, and later misinterprets it as "whoever wins the beauty contest is the one Takahiro will become begleiter for". Naturally this causes every single one of the main girls to enter the contest as well, [[spoiler:only to have him clear it up after they all lose.]]
* ThrowingDownTheGauntlet: Bertille does this to Mio after the latter tries to run away from Sakura, and causes the former to also run when the horse chases after both of them due to Mio running in her direction.
* ThrowingOffTheDisability: [[spoiler:In episode 12, Mirielle manages to regain the use of her legs after watching her sister in the tournament. Although she loses the match, Noel is still happy she took part and especially because her sister recovered.]]
* TournamentArc: The school holds a jousting tournament starting around episode 10.
* {{Troll}}: Surprisingly enough, Sakura, Takahiro's horse. In one instance, she steps on a hose he was using, then lets off of it when he tries to figure out why it stopped letting out water, only to then have it splash onto Celia. She neighs shortly afterwards, as if laughing at him.
* UnderdogsNeverLose: [[spoiler: Subverted. Mio might have a great deal of natural talent and worked very hard to train before the tournament, but at the end of the day, she still wasn't able to beat TheAce Celia. She did, however, come close, something that no one else has ever been able to do.]]
* UnwantedHarem: Although most of them don't actively chase after him, virtually all of the girls want Takahiro. In the anime, even when they try to corner him and force him to choose, he manages to weasel his way out of it, largely due to having to assist a pregnant horse give birth.
* WorthyOpponent: Lisa and Akane towards each other, after both are unable to gain the upper hand against the other during their jousting duels. Bertille considers Mio one after their first two matches.
* ZettaiRyouiki: Noel, as seen in the picture above.

[[spoiler:His attitude towards Takahiro isn't quite as hostile as it seems, however. While he did cast Takahiro aside, he was waiting for Takahiro to stand up as a knight on his own.]]
* CareerEndingInjury: ComplimentBackfire: Whenever Bertille's minions honestly praise her, Takahiro appears can't help thinking it comes off as pretty insulting. Small wonder given that they praise her for being strong against weak opponents or shameless enough to wear stripperiffic armor for a small advantage. Occasionally, she catches on that they're either making fun of her or have suffered very unique standards.
* CoolBigSis
** Ayako is Takahiro's cousin, but functions more as
a leg protective big sister figure. He finds her sort of scary, though.
** Reina is effectively Lisa's big sister, though the relationship has a few snags thanks in part to Fiona.
* CruelToBeKind: After Lisa is badly shaken following [[spoiler:Reina's

Akane and Takahiro simply sit and watch since she brought this on herself and needs to learn from jousting. However, due to his skills, he is still very useful as a Begleiter, what's going on now.

* DistractedByTheSexy: Takahiro feels a little nervous before Noel's duel with Bertille not because he thinks she has a real chance of beating Noel, but because her armor has her wearing no pants and form fitting armor. Where exactly is he supposed to look?
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: The way Noel talks about her approval for Takahiro as a begleiter and a caretaker for horses sounds much more like talking about how she actually loves him. This isn't too surprising given that she does like him, though.

* UnwantedHarem: Although FanOfUnderdog
** The announcer finds Mio much more interesting during her match with Bertille because she thinks an amateur being an experienced jouster would be pretty cool.
** Kyle doesn't want to work with a knight who is already exceptional. He wants to choose a knight by himself and hone their talents. Lisa and later Mio both catch his interest as they have a lot of talent to refine, but neither is interested. He usually ends up picking a first year girl like Miata to work with and swiftly raises her up to competitive levels in the tournament, showing that he really is quite good.
* FragileSpeedster: Female knights have a different value than their male counterparts. While they generally lack the strength and weight of their counterparts, they're smaller and lighter, allowing them to move more quickly and are significantly more difficult to hit.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Animals like Mio just as much as people normally do, which Takahiro realizes is advantageous when it comes to teaching her how to joust within a very short time period. She understands what the horse wants and can easily match herself to it.
* TheGadfly: Noel really likes teasing people, especially Mio with her really obvious crush.
* GiftedlyBad
** Mio keeps confidently experimenting with new cooking even though it's always a disaster.
** James thinks he's good at chess. He isn't. He repeatedly loses to a little girl.
* GirlishPigtails: Lisa's hair is always in two simple twintails.
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: Celia collects stuffed animals. It jars a little with her mature image, but she's surprised at Takahiro's surprise.
* GracefulLoser: Bertille accepts her defeat calmly, noting that even if she had been letting her guard down a loss is a loss. It would be ignoble to pretend otherwise and an insult to pretend it was merely bad luck. When she learns that Mio isn't even in the knight class she's considerably more embarrassed, but she still comes to the party to celebrate Mio's victory.
* HappyEnding: All the endings are pretty unambiguously happy. In Noel's route [[spoiler:she loses the tournament finals but Mireille manages to walk again]], in Lisa's ending [[spoiler:she becomes proper friends with Fiona which is apparently a good thing and matures as a jouster]] while in Celia's [[spoiler:Takahiro manages to reconcile with Julianus and take up jousting again.]]
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Takahiro's friends are slightly concerned at how he evaluates himself as having nothing important to contribute.
* HeroWorshipper: Akane is Celia's number one fangirl.
* HeyYou: Lisa always calls Takahiro senpai instead of his actual name. There's nothing wrong with this, though it's a bit distant, but it's a major hint to Kyle about their RelationshipUpgrade when she calls him Takahiro-senpai instead.
* HopelessSuitor: Near the end of Lisa's route, [[spoiler:Fiona gains a crush on Takahiro.
* IgnoredExpert: During the tournament in Lisa's route, Fiona's begleiter tries to tell her that she's pushing her horse too hard and that it's getting tired. Fiona just blows up at her.
* InnocentInnuendo: After Bertille's loss, she says that Mio opened her eyes to the joys of pain and defeat. Anne and Noel catch on to the subtext, but Bertille doesn't realize what she just said.
* InsecureLoveInterest
* InstantWinCondition: Knocking the wing off an opponent's helm is an instant win condition. Early on, Takahiro mentally criticizes a few riders for being too overly conscious of this.
* InsufferableGenius: For all his irritating snobbishness, Julianus really is the best jouster around, able to easily [[spoiler:break both Celia and his own weapon repeatedly, a very difficult feat that
most people aren't even aware was intentional.]]
* InterClassRomance
** Takahiro is worried about this one when he begins dating Celia, but she assures him it's not a problem. She's not the family successor, so a relationship with a commoner isn't a problem on that front. Further, her family wouldn't even care in the first place because they emphasize partners with ability over status.
** However, it ''is'' a problem in Noel's route. Noel is
of even higher status than Celia and her family is more direct nobility rather than having the military meritocratic tinge of the Aintree's, but Takahiro is a foreign commoner.
* InterplayOfSexAndViolence: To calm down after a fight or in general, Celia often wants to sleep with Takahiro.
* IResembleThatRemark: The moment Kyle calls Lisa childish she starts sulking. Real mature.
* ItAmusedMe: The announcer girl is primarily motivated by how amusing everything is. Big scoops like Mio possibly beating Bertille or Takahiro dating Celia really get her going.
* {{Jerkass}}
There's also the implication that she simply picks fights with other students so that Lisa will defeat
them in a duel on her behalf.
* JerkassHasAPoint: Mizuno accepts that Julianus has a point when he says that only the best jousters should be allowed into the tournament. However, there are several issues with only focusing on the elite. First, it gives rookies no chance to show off their ability. Second, it excludes third year students from one last chance at participation, which they have a right to suspect given the emphasis on tradition. Third, it denies that anyone might simply want to joust because they enjoy it, turning it from a sport into a more bitter contest.
* {{Keigo}}: Takahiro's speech isn't exactly rude, but when he starts talking to Celia for the first time he corrects himself to speak more politely.
* KindheartedCatLover: Lisa may be prickly, but she adores the stray cat she named Sasami. Contrasting her, her jerky friend Fiona hates cats.
* LargeHam
** Kyle is always overly dramatic. His friends have given up on reacting to it.
** Bertille is silly and overly dramatic about everything, but since she's generally a nice person people
don't actively chase really mind.
* LethalChef
* LikeBrotherAndSister: Takahiro mostly views Mio as a sister figure, which she's basically okay with even if she'd probably prefer a different type of relationship.
* LittleSisterHeroine: Mireille is so well behaved, kind and cute that everyone wants her for a little sister. She actually starts referring to Takahiro as her onii-sama even, causing him to spoil her rotten.
* LoveTriangle
** Averted so far as the main heroines go. Despite Mio's obvious crush, she's entirely supportive of any of Takahiro's other love interests. She doesn't even make enough of a fuss over it to count as IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy.
** In the end of Lisa's route [[spoiler:Fiona has developed a crush on Takahiro and jokingly... probably... proposes a threesome.]]
* MasterOfTheMixedMessage: Takahiro says a lot of things to Lisa that could come off as flirty and are taken as such but are generally not actually ''meant'' as such.
* MySisterIsOffLimits: Julianus is angry at Takahiro for acting as Celia's begleiter, though he doesn't realize they're dating. [[spoiler:When he does finally figure it out
after him, virtually all Celia's surprise victory, he can intellectually support the idea since he had shown his approval of Takahiro years ago but emotionally it's still difficult.]]
* NearlyNormalAnimal: Lisa's cat Sasami can't speak, but it's able to play jokes and tricks, sort of converse, defends her honor and is apparently in a monogamous long term relationship, of which it informs her about directly.
* NiceGirl
* NoblewomansLaugh: Takahiro dies a little inside when Bertille actually goes Ohohohoho!
* NonSequiturCausality: Surprisingly averted. Mireille gets mildly sick in April and makes Noel late in several routes while Julianus changes the tournament rules no matter what. The only thing that changes is how people react and what you're directly informed about.
* ObliviouslyBeautiful: Celia doesn't get much romantic attention because people are generally too intimidated to make an attempt, so she's largely unaware that most people consider her extremely attractive.
* OddNameOut: Most of the names are English, but Julianus is a Roman name. The proper descended form in England would be Julian.
* TheOjou: At one point Takahiro notes to himself that Noel is probably rich given that jousting is a rich man's sport, but not much mention is made of the wealth
of the girls want most of the time. However, Bertille gets standard silly ojou speech patterns and even does the ojou laugh, much to Takahiro's consternation.
* OnlyFriend
** Lisa makes friends with Mio and to a lesser extent the group surrounding her, but Fiona remains linked to Lisa alone. Even setting aside her new friends, Lisa is also close to Reina, even if Fiona doesn't like her.
** Celia is rather isolated at school. While everyone admires her, her only friends are Reina and potentially
Takahiro. In As such, she's generally uninvolved with the anime, events of other routes because she just isn't close to anyone in the group.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: Bertille is either in the upper ranks of the B group or
even an A rank jouster, but Celia is an S rank, Lisa is a genius, Noel is intentionally underrated and Akane is good enough to make Celia work for her victory. As such, it's really hard for her to stand out unless we're talking about how embarrassing your armor is to wear.
* PassiveAggressiveCombat: Fiona makes some rather nasty backhanded compliments at Bertille, who is generally too gracious to stoop to her level. Or too oblivious.
* PoorCommunicationKills: Mio ends up challenged to a duel by Bertille even though the latter is fairly amiable because she fails to clarify that she isn't a knight and that she was only wearing Takahiro's helm. Her odd reactions to the praise for the helm makes her sound like a sneaky, disrespectful braggart
when they try she's only trying to corner explain that she isn't a knight but is happy to hear people indirectly praising Takahiro.
* ThePowerOfActing: Played with. When Kyle doubts Noel's acting ability, she instantly starts crying about how her friends can't believe in her, causing him to feel like a jerk. Akane and Mio play along and everything. A moment later, she of course reveals she was faking. Kyle was the only one who actually believed her tears, though.
* PrincessCurls: As a ridiculous ojou, Bertille gets to have ridiculous ojou hair.
* ProperTightsWithASkirt: The school uniform has a short skirt, but unlike normal examples also accompanies it with tights to emphasize the legs rather than what is directly above them.
* RankInflation: Most of the students hover around B to C rank with the elites like Akane at A. Celia is the only S rank currently at the academy.
* RelationshipSabotage: Fiona does her best to sabotage Lisa's relationships with anyone else, from friends to lpossible begleiters or lovers.
* RelationshipUpgrade: Takahiro agrees to be Celia's begleiter after supporting her plans for a side tournament. [[spoiler:At the same time, she confesses to
him and force he returns her feelings.]]
* TheRival: After Mio defeats Bertille in a duel, the latter cheerfully claims Mio as her rival.
* RoseHairedSweetie: Mio is very bright and cheery.
* TheRunaway: When Noel's father drags her aside to tell her that she needs to stop jousting and dating Takahiro, Mireille tells Takahiro not to give up on her even if she treats
him coldly. Apparently she doesn't know her sister very well because the next day she shows up Ayako's restaurant with a change of clothes. Noel may be many things, but a doormat is not one of them.
* SakuraGirl: Mio has long pink hair, a bright disposition and the character for Sakura in her name.
* SatelliteCharacter
** There are numerous minor characters who only fulfill a basic role as something like 'Kyle's knight' or some such.
** Fiona is Lisa's obnoxious, bratty friend and little else. If the story isn't focusing on Lisa directly then she simply vanishes from the story without a trace.
* SecondPlaceIsForLosers: A fixation with winning is frowned on in the story. People want
to choose, win, but anyone who obsesses over first place has a lesson to learn about the proper way of jousting and whatnot.
** Mio and Takahiro don't start training for her duel with Bertille presuming she has any real chance of success. They just want her to do well enough that she doesn't embarrass or injure herself, which is accomplishment enough on its own. [[spoiler:That she actually wins is quite the upset and makes Takahiro suddenly incredibly desirable as a begleiter.]]
** In Lisa and Noel's routes [[spoiler:they both lose to Celia despite Takahiro's assistance. Lisa's loss happened offscreen and was implied to be rather one sided while Noel actually had a good chance at winning, but was still dismounted when Celia got truly serious. In both cases, making it that far at all was quite the impressive feat: One is a first year and the other is officially only B ranked.]]
* SecretlyWealthy: Takahiro assumes that Noel must be fairly wealthy if she's in the knight class, but she actually has an even bigger mansion than Celia, whose family is quite prominent. She's almost royalty.
* SenpaiKouhai
** Even after they begin dating and working together as knight and begleiter, Celia and Takahiro keep up the senpai/kohai thing. However, it starts to bother her over time.
** Takahiro himself graduates from senpai to Takahiro-senpai to just Takahiro in Lisa's route.
* SeriousBusiness
** In a modern setting, even having a club devoted to horses would be somewhat rare, but there's an entire knight class that learns and practices jousting, though it's unclear as to whether the world at large really pays any attention to it. Takahiro at least is surprised that Lisa has heard of him.
** Inability to make loud slurping noises while eating soba leaves Celia incredibly depressed.
* ShipperOnDeck: Reina really supports Lisa and Takahiro, as do Kyle and Akane. Mio and Ayako find the idea of him with Noel fascinating and pester him about it after
he manages goes on a date with her early on. Mireille in particular seems to weasel look forward to having Takahiro for an older brother.
* SickeninglySweetHearts: Most of the time Lisa and Takahiro are together after hooking up they spend their time just flirting.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: In a manner of speaking, given that becoming a begleiter and becoming
his way knight's boyfriend always seem to be roughly the same thing for Takahiro. Noel requested Takahiro as her begleiter even though those like Kyle have better grades because she sees him take excellent care of his horse every morning and get excellent results out of it, largely due it in exchange. Given that she lost in the first round of the tournament the year before because her horse wasn't being cared for properly, this quite impressed her. She directly compares the experience to LoveAtFirstSight.
* SkilledButNaive: Lisa is talented, but her stubbornness and inability to depend on others makes it easy to see through her strategies.
** [[spoiler:In Celia's route, Celia has some trouble with Noel but walks all over Lisa in the finals because she's always so predictable.]]
** In her own route [[spoiler:she loses to the greatly inferior Reina because while skilled, she's unused to opponents at her own level and is unused
to having to assist predict their actions, which makes her performance even worse.]]
* SmugSmiler: Noel has multiple smug grinning trollfaces.
* SmugSnake: Fiona is awfully arrogant for someone with no abilities of her own. [[spoiler:She's actually been stealing Lisa's techniques, so she isn't actually that weak, but as everyone important points out that just makes her
a pregnant horse give birth.
bad copy of Lisa.]]
* WorthyOpponent: StaticCharacter: Compared to some of the other characters like Lisa or Takahiro, Celia never really changes much because she already has a stable, positive personality as well as the proper attitude towards jousting and competition.
* TheStoic: Akane is always rather calm and serious, even when joking around. However, she tends to fangirl around Celia and turns into a motormouth when trying to confirm if Takahiro is really dating her.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Bertille's armor mostly only covers her upper body, which from the perspective of weight and covering what is likely to actually be hit is rather efficient in a way... but it also leaves her thighs rather exposed for everyone to see, which the announcer comments on. One of her lackeys takes pride in how only Bertille can shamelessly wear such embarrassing armor.
* StudentCouncilPresident: Celia, among other exemplary traits, is the president of the student council and considers it natural to have the entire student body memorized.
* SugarAndIcePersonality
** Lisa isn't very social, so she tends to be quiet and rather aloof sometimes.
** According to his friends, Takahiro's emotions can be tricky to read, so they really want to see him go deredere just once. When he finally goes deredere, it's not for his girlfriend Noel. No, it's for her little sister and her sheer imouto aura.
* SuperDeformed: Oftentimes when the game wants to show the characters and not just their sprites, it shows them chibified.
* SweetTooth: Akane likes cakes and whatnot, which normally wouldn't stand out. However, she freaks out when she realizes Takahiro and Lisa saw her buy one, considering her desire for normal sweet food to be disgraceful.
* TheTease: Noel is quite the tease, enjoying harassing girls and flirting with Takahiro equally. How serious she is is questionable: She does seem to like Takahiro, but assumes he's dating Mio and isn't one to steal other people's boyfriends. Further, she's pretty easy to tease herself, much to her annoyance.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Bertille's minions, Anne and Emma, always appear together or with Bertille, never alone.
* ThrowingOffTheDisability: [[spoiler:At the end of Noel's route, Mireille finally manages to stand up again because of course she does. Even though Noel lost, she was inspired by her courage to keep going even at a disadvantage.]]
* TragicDream: Mireille wanted to become a knight, but she lost the use of her legs.
* TranslationConvention: It's probably safe to assume that with Takahiro
and Akane being immigrants with Japanese names that the native language of wherever they are is not actually Japanese, though whatever language they ''are'' speaking is never really specified. Given that most of the 'foreign' names are English, that's probably what they're speaking. Then again, the title is ''Walkure'' Romanze, not Valkyrie Romance.
* {{Tsundere}}: Though normally rather cool and polite, Lisa reacts poorly to Takahiro and is more hostile
towards each other, him. He's not really sure what the problem is since he didn't know who she was before her match with Akane and after both it barely spoke two words to her. She also doesn't want to admit that she was worried about Mio after she was challenged to a duel. Takahiro isn't the greatest at picking up tsundere signals even though it kinda seems like she wants him to notice without her having to say it.
* UnskilledButStrong
** Celia is not entirely unskilled, but she's capable of cruising along at the top with sheer speed and strength. People
are unable very surprised to gain see her using feints and more complex tactics with Takahiro as her begleiter.
** This gets turned around in the tournament finals. [[spoiler:Lisa's brute strength approach and simple tactics leads to her getting flattened when she goes up against someone that's at her own level. This happens even in her own route because even if she has a begleiter, as a jouster she still lacks experience.]]
* WingDingEyes
** Akane gets stars in her eyes when she fangirls Celia while Celia herself gets them when she talks about stuffed animals.
** The Ascot sisters are prone to having their eyes go > < when they get too excited. Noel is one thing, but seeing the calm and gracious Mireille do it is another.
* TheWorfEffect: Akane is used as a sort of measuring stick. She's in
the upper hand against ranks of the other during their jousting duels. Bertille considers Mio one after their first two matches.
A rank jousters and is thus someone that is often used to test the ability of those like Noel or Lisa.
* ZettaiRyouiki: Noel, WorthyOpponent
** Neither Akane nor Lisa have had a good match in quite some time, so they're both fairly pleased when they come out
as seen essentially even.
** Celia has so much fun dueling Noel that she graciously ignores that [[spoiler:Noel cheated
in the picture above.
second round]], simply laughing it off entirely.
* YouDidntAsk: When Lisa confronts Takahiro about not telling her he's a former knight, his reaction is mostly confusion. Why would there be any reason to tell her that?
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Mio's hair is bright pink and Lisa's is white. Most of the rest of the cast have various shades of brown or blond hair, though Anne and Emma are red and green.

!Tropes in the show include:
----

* AbsurdlyPowerfulStudentCouncil: After Mio is issued a duel challenge by Bertille, she tries to protest that she isn't even training to be a knight. However, the student council says that a knight's honor is on the line anytime they do something like this, and allows this duel on the grounds of it being a training session. The only alternative is to quit the school, but Mio refuses that option, since it wouldn't allow her to be close to Takahiro, so she reluctantly agrees to the duel...
* ACupAngst: Lisa has some slight insecurities about her chest size.
* AnimalsHateHer: Played with. Fiona does not like the cat that sticks around Lisa.
* ArmorPiercingSlap: Takahiro receives two of them from Reina.
* BalancedHarem: In the anime, none of the girls have a significant lead over the others towards Takahiro.
* CareerEndingInjury: Takahiro appears to have suffered a leg injury preventing him from jousting. However, due to his skills, he is still very useful as a Begleiter, and several of the girls want him to be theirs, and [[RelationshipUpgrade possibly more...]]
* ClingyJealousGirl: A few of the girls display this from time to time. Used most by Fiona towards Lisa.
* CuteLittleFang: Noel has one.
* InstantExpert: While Mio does have to get trained to joust, she picks it up surprisingly fast despite not having done any of it before.
* NoblewomansLaugh: Bertille does one after running into Mio for the first time.
* StudentCouncilPresident: Celia.
* ZettaiRyouiki: Noel, as seen in the picture above.
