* Invoked and played with in ''Webcomic/TheBedfellows''; when new viewers had trouble guessing Fatigue's gender, the creators decided to roll with the idea and have Fatigue's gender be undecided. People refer to Fatigue as a man or woman, Fatigue has a tampon in his purse, Fatigue appears to be peeing standing up in one episode when he's really pouring spoiled milk down a toilet...

* Created intentionally for Blaise Zabini in the ''Franchise/HarryPotter'' fan comic ''Webcomic/VoldemortsChildren'': WordOfGod states that Blaise has a gender identity that is obvious to the other characters, but it is not revealed to the readers.

* The main character from ''[[http://chaoslife.findchaos.com/ Chaos Life]]'' is actually female, which was revealed in the FAQ section, and it surprised a lot of viewers. However, her gender is "agender" - meaning she doesn't care if people perceive her as her/him, she/he or just "they" - as she puts it "I'm just me" and they aren't offended or embarrassed by whatever gender people label them.

** WordOfGod says that he created {{Elfeminine}} Vaarsuvius with a gender, but when fans had a hard time telling what it was, he just decided to make his/her AmbiguousGender a part of the comic, InUniverse as well as out.

** WordOfGod says that he created {{Elfeminine}} Vaarsuvius with a gender, refuses to say what sex {{Elfeminate}} [[TheSmartGuy Vaarsuvius]] was originally supposed to have, but when fans had a hard time telling what it was, he became confused, the creator just decided to make his/her AmbiguousGender a part of RunningGag. Even the comic, characters InUniverse as well as out.are split on what they believe.

** The {{Elfeminate}} Vaarsuvius began as this, very early in the comic's run, but was soon written to have an AmbiguousGender in-universe as well.

** Vaarsuvius may or may not have started out like this unintentionally, but V's androgyny has [[AscendedFanon long since become a deliberate running gag]].
** [[WordOfGod Word of the Giant]] says it was unintentional but picked up on pretty darn quickly.
** The fact that recently s/he tied his/her hair into a ponytail makes him/her look more feminine, but there's still no guarantee.
*** More feminine? Tell that to [[LoveableRogue Julio Scoundrél!]]

Bandana's unisex clothing and BoyishShortHair led some readers to [[LoveableRogue Julio Scoundrél!]]mistake her for a man at first.

Added DiffLines:

* Several in ''WebComic/StandStillStaySilent''. A lot of this is due to the characters always wearing rather bulky clothing, making secondary sexual attributes hard to spot. To wit:
** Braidy, the feminine-looking person with the long bright-red braided hair, is a guy named Reynir.
** The extremely gung-ho captain with short, red hair is a woman named Sigrun.
** Tuuri is a slightly heavyset woman in her early twenties, not a chubby ten-year-old boy.

* Several readers of ''Webcomic/{{Savestate}}'' kept mistaking Nicole for a male because of her tomboyish attitude and barely noticeable breasts...despite the name and the character sheet stating she's Kade's sister. It happened so often that the author eventually [[http://www.savestatecomic.com/2015/03/plush-fortress/ lampshaded it in a strip]] to clear things up.
