Lugovalos is fighting to unite humanity against the Overlords, vastly improves the quality of life throughout the SMC, and almost completely eradicates piracy, but the first things to go under their rule are freedom of navigation and independent Zero-G Dogs. As Larissa comments on the starving children found by the SMC resistance, state monopoly of space travel does guarantee security, but stifles the economy and wealth redistribution enough to create those aforementioned starving children. Also, there are a number of racists like Desmond in Lugovalos that treat soldiers and even civilians of subjugated nations like pawns at best, pests at worst. The LMC is a squabbling mess divided between imperialistic Great Powers, exploited minor states, pirates and religious fanatics, but they also support national self-determination and freedom of space, goals Yuri and most other characters hold very dear to their hearts.]]

** Panfilov forbids his subjects to travel into space. The game starts with Nia smuggling Yuri off his home planet.
** The Adisian religion preaches against space travel except for a chosen few, manning its fleets with clerics. Panfilov's ban reminds Nia of these beliefs.

Nope, it's a real thing — spontaneous magnetic fields in laser-produced plasma. The point about having to actually hit the thing is valid, but that goes under Asteroid Thicket if anything.

* ArtisticLicensePhysics: There's a mineral that gives off an EMP when "in the presence of laser light". You would have to actually hit the mineral withe the laser, but the quest just has you firing a laser randomly into an asteroid field. And changing a weapons-grade laser blast into an omnidirectional magnetic field-with a ''rock'', no less- is ''impossible.''

Asskicking Equals Authority has been renamed.

* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: The Space Pioneering Law grants the discoverer of a habitable planet dictatorial rights over the planet, ''if they can hold it''. While it's apparently forbidden for national governments to invade feudal dominions (or at least, it would cause an international incident), there is no such rule against private citizens doing the same thing, so any Zero-G Dog who wants to set himself up as a warlord has to be tough as Grus or he won't last long. Panfilov and Cadmus both learn this the hard way.

* FakeBalance: The game's balance is completely ''borked.'' Fleet composition calculus is nonexistant because bigger ships are ALWAYS better than smaller ones, with there being absolutely no value whatsoever in deploying destroyers or cruisers once you get up to battleships and carriers (cruisers in particular are supposed to specialise in shooting down support craft, but the AA mechanics are so ''pathetic'' that they're basically useless for this purpose). And support craft (fighters and bombers) are so overpowered that whoever wins the initial dogfight engagement in a battle will almost always win the battle by default.
