Also, Senjyu was much less of a dick than Jinkuro.]]

* GrandTheftMe: Happens to Momohime in the first act, pushing her original soul out of her body.

* HartmanHips: Yuzuruha. Good God, Yuzuruha...

* BreakTheCutie: A low-grade version. It seems to be a RunningGag that every man who meets Momohime either loutishly hits on her (in the case of the Comedy Commoners) or insults her (in the case of Jinkuro and Kisuke).

* FauxActionGirl: Possibly Torahime. We get told that she's a [[InformedAbility fearsome warrior]], but her main role in Kisuke's story is to be the love interest and [[DistressedDamsel get into a lot of trouble that Kisuke needs to save her from]]. On the other hand, she was previously a boss, with a one-hit sword breaking arrow attack. That said, that boss fight against her is also the only time she really ''does'' display much competence in battle at all.
** Momohime as well, actually. The game got a lot of hype for having a male and female lead, but she's possessed by the spirit of a man for most of the game. When she's properly herself, she's an ordinary doll-like princess.

* DownloadableContent: The Vita rerelease has [[http://www.siliconera.com/2013/03/27/how-muramasa-rebirths-four-vita-only-dlc-characters-play/ four upcoming DLC characters]]: the Nekomata, a CatGirl who fights with her claws; the Country Bumpkin, a hoe-wielding BadassNormal - or not, considering the [[StringyHairedGhostGirl onryo]] in the background of his artwork - inspired by the protagonists of the ''HarvestMoon'' series; Arashimaru, a ninja who fights using kunai, shuriken, and ninjutsu; and a pint-sized Oni girl who also happens to be a SuperStrongChild.

* CuteMonsterGirl: We're talking a game set in FeudalJapan. [[{{Kitsune}} Kongiku and Yuzuruha]] are standouts here. Raijin ([[{{Beastess}} who resembles an oni]]) is quite attractive, but her beauty is mostly overshadowed by her brash and aggresive nature (almost to [[TheLadette Ladette]] levels, [[{{Tsundere}} go figure]]). The only times it surfaces is when she's knocked out of the sky (she lands on her rump and takes a moment to tend to her rear in a typical {{Dojikko}} fashion; notably, her voice raises from sultrily deep and tough to innocuously cute) and briefly after the BossBattle with her when Fujin calms her down. And once you beat her, she is just adorable. One of the upcoming DLC characters for the Vita rerelease is a female [[CatGirl Nekomata]], and another is a small Oni girl.

* FootFocus: [[http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/6564/momohime.jpg Momohime in this artwork]] that comes with the official soundtrack.

* ContemptibleCover: One of the Japanese covers for the game's soundtrack has one of Oodako's tentacles covering Momohime's otherwise exposed crotch and her breasts almost falling out of her kimono. Another has Yuzuruha sitting in a seductive pose, lifting her kimono with her foot acting as a SceneryCensor, and a third has Torahime naked in an OverTheShoulderPose with one elbow covering her breasts and her buttocks obscured by [[XRayVision her flesh turning transparent]].

* AboveTheInfluence: [[spoiler: Torahime gives Kisuke permission to do ''[[ArentYouGoingToRavishMe whatever]]'' he wants to her during their hot spring encounter, and he does nothing.]]

* BreakableWeapons: The swords in the game have a "Soul Power" meter, which wears down whenever you block attacks or use each swords' unique "Secret Art". As per the legend of the Muramasa swords, they repair themselves when they are resheathed.

* DeadAllAlong: [[spoiler: Most of the central cast, though Momohime doesn't really count. Kisuke was killed by his brethren after betraying the clan for love, and returned to life as a lively sort of zombie through fusing with an angry ghostly swordmaster. Torahime was assassinated by the Shogun, and is sent back by Amitabha to exact vengeance alongside her army of ghosts.]]

* DrivenToSuicide: In Kisuke's first ending, [[spoiler: he has a RageAgainstTheHeavens moment after Torahime's second death and resolves to teach [[{{God}} Amitabha]] a lesson. Upon actually seeing Amitabha, he realizes that endeavour would be useless and instead offers his life in exchange for Torahime's. Amitabha refuses, and Kisuke decides [[LivingEmotionalCrutch he can't live without her]] and commits seppuku. Fortunately, Torahime requests to be continually reborn alongside him until he attains enlightenment.]]

* FlamingSword: Some of the Muramasa blades are wreathed in spectral flames.

* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: Kisuke was sent by Yukinojo to steal the Kuzuryu Muramasa for the Shogun, but fell in love with Torahime and betrayed his colleges in an effort to protect her. In Momohime's first ending, Rankai pulls one after realizing exactly how corrupt he is, joining Momohime on her pilgrimage.

* RageAgainstTheHeavens: After failing to find Kuromitsu Blade in Hell, Jinkuro assaults Heaven in order to obtain immortality. [[spoiler: Kisuke impulsively plans to cut Amitabha (the reigning deity, basically) in his normal ending, but quickly abandons the idea as futile once he actually meets him in person.]] Likewise, Momohime's path consists mostly of Jinkuro hacking his way through the Japanese pantheon [[spoiler:until Heaven gets annoyed enough to send down one of the Thirteen Buddhas to tell him to cut that shit out.]]

* StringyHairedGhostGirl: Kisuke encounters the ghost of a woman killed by monsters as an NPC. Skull-headed onryo also appear as enemies and launch "Flames of Rancor" that can be deflected back at them. [[spoiler: Torahime also qualifies, considering she came back from the dead for revenge on the Shogun.]]

* DeadAllAlong: [[spoiler: Torahime was assassinated by the Shogun, but is sent back by Amitabha to exact vengeance.]]

* AmbidextrousSprite: Tries to justify it for characters in curscenes by giving them turning animations in which they swap whatever they're holding to their other hand. Out of cutscenes, though, everyone does this, with few exceptions.

* AttackOfThe50FootWhatever: Momohime's fourth boss Ippondatara. You have to fight his giant foot first (which refers to a legend regarding one of Kyoto's mansions), then his huge body. From time to time he will turn into the harmless Inosasao (a giant boar with bamboo leaves on his back).

* DangerouslyShortSkirt: Momohime's kimono is thigh-length... and she isn't wearing underwear. This is lampshaded by many characters, most of whom are wearing even fewer clothes than she is.

* ImplausibleFencingPowers: The Oboro Style both characters use is all about this. They explicitly state that mastering it not only makes you immune to the bloodlust that wielding Muramasa blades normally causes (and by that extension, the insanity caused by the [[spoiler:countless angry recently-dead spirits wandering a battlefield Kisuke visits]]), but also allows you to battle the God(dess?) of Thunder [[ViolationOfCommonSense with a metal blade]]. And those are just the side effects of the actual purpose of the fighting style, which is of course being able to easily kick metric crap ton of ass.

* {{Obake}}: The ''kitsune'' that serve Inarimyojin assist Kisuke and Momohime, with Yuzuruha and Kongiku taking human form to serve as guides; ''tengu'' and ''kappa'' are common enemies, as are the ''karakasa''-type Obake, although they look slightly different from their usual form (that being a one-legged umbrella monster with a single eye and a mouth with a long tongue). Every boss (other named characters like Kurozaru and Torahime) are based on famous Yokai and legends.
