''Monster Tale'' is a 2011 UsefulNotes/NintendoDS game from the short-lived developer [=DreamRift=] and published by Majesco Entertainment.

A mix between {{Metroidvania}} and [[VirutalPet virtual pet raising sim]], the game was created by the same people behind the equally GenreBusting ''VideoGame/HenryHatsworthInThePuzzlingAdventure''. While traversing the overworld as Ellie, the bottom screen on displays Chomp residing in a pocket dimension, who will come out to aid Ellie. Depending on how you decide to make use of and raise Chomp - from whether you use him as support or as an additional source of damage, to the type of toys and foods you give to the creature -- he will evolve accordingly, growing more powerful, gaining different abilities, and transforming further into even more specialized forms.

Like its very British predecessor, the gameplay in Monster Tale is a mix of genres, in this case we have the {{Metroidvania}} approach coupled with the raising and use of Chomp, who can interact with different items that Ellie may find and evolve accordingly, gaining different abilities and transforming into different forms as he does so.

It ties into the general lore of Zoe, who became a Kid King in the Monster Realm because her parents wouldn't let her play with toys due to her constantly breaking them.
