* BadassDamsel: Rosella is kidnapped or trapped numerous times in the game: pulled through the mirror by the Troll King in the beginning, [[spoiler:locked in her room in the Volcanix Underground, trapped in the coffin in Ooga Booga Land, and teleported into the shaft of the volcano]], but being one of the game's protagonists she always gets herself out of trouble.

* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Malicia and the Boogeyman. Dr. Mort Cadaver is a subversion, as his name is a reference to his job (as the coroner of Ooga Booga) rather than an indication of villainy.

** [[spoiler:Oberon and Titania]] may have Valanice beat on this one: Imagine that you're in a position of power. Your child goes missing and you immediately take off to look for him, [[spoiler:not realizing that [[AllThereInTheManual one of your enemies had engineered the whole thing as part of an elaborate scheme to wreak some serious havoc on the world once you're safely out of the way]]. Also, your child's being forced to take part in this plan, and [[MultipleEndings there's a chance]] that he could be dead once you do find him.]]

Notably for a Creator/{{Sierra}} ''King's Quest'', [[{{Unwinnable}} this game cannot be made unwinnable]] -- in trying to reach younger audiences, the creators decided to make the game much easier than previous installments. It's still a Sierra game, though -- you die, and there are plenty of difficult puzzles, all the same.

* WeightAndSwitch: At the bottom of the well, Valanice has to replace the turquoise piece with her bead in order not to trigger the refilling of the well. Downplayed in that weight and volume are irrelevant: The idol will happily accept the tiny bead in exchange for the... less tiny... puzzle piece.

* AndIMustScream: Very subtly implied in the case of Ceres, who was attacked by Malicia and turned into an oak tree, then stabbed and left to bleed to death with the stake still [[ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice impaled in her trunk.]]

** In hindsight, [[spoiler: Edgar]] is this, but not really his fault. Sure, he's got a crush on Rosella [[spoiler: since the fourth game]], so kidnapping her [[spoiler: transforming her into a troll, and trying to invoke AndNowYouMustMarryMe]] falls under this, but arguably it was just his way of ''asking for help'' and botching it [[spoiler: because he was confused and morally compromised]] due to Malicia.

* EmeraldPower: One of the ingredients Rosella needs to get for Mathilde in order to turn herself back into a human is a glowing green liquid called "Water of Emerald."

* GameOverman: Rosalina is her own Game Over Man! (Er, Woman), showing up with some snarky remark after one of her many deaths. (Often she just states the obvious, but sometimes, it's to remark on how ''stupid'' the action was.)

* GameOverman: Rosalina is GameOverMan: Whenever you die, you cut to a screen where the character you're currently playing as will comment about her own Game Over Man! (Er, Woman), showing up with some snarky remark after one demise. Most of her many deaths. (Often she just states the obvious, time you get a helpful hint, but sometimes, it's to remark on how ''stupid'' sometimes the action was.)comments are a bit more sarcastic and blunt.

* PutOnABus: Oddly, neither Graham or Alexander show up or even get a mention. Then again, Valanice and Rosella spend most of the game ''far'' from Daventry.
